I recently just got a tattoo done here and overall, I'd say that the artists here are competent and skilled! However, the artist that I had gotten an appointment with made me wait for him to finish a smoke break before we could get started and overall made me wait around 20 minutes and then once we actually got started, every time I needed a break to recompose myself after being hyper-stabbed, I got a healthy dosage of attitude from the very person who told me to tell him when I needed a break. Long story short, my advice is to email or call and set up an appointment and I am sure you will have a better experience than I did. I typically do that with my other tattoos, but on a whim I tried to walk in and had an unpleasant experience that does not make me eager to revisit this shop. Website says walk-ins are welcome, but I was treated like I was from outer space when I asked if anyone had time. It's okay, I get it if you don't have time, but you could be a little nicer about it. I felt unwelcome and like I inconvenienced them by asking. It's too bad, I really do like their work. When you approach Good Land from the sidewalk, your eyes are drawn to the gilded leaf on the entryway door and the wood work behind the shop sign that hangs above. Right away you can tell this isn't your typical tattoo shop. The owner, Ben, has really taken the smallest details into consideration and you can tell he takes pride in his shop. From the rustic decor, to the beautiful wood work or the unique taxidermy, Good Land is hands down the most aesthetically pleasing tattoo shop to exist in the city of Milwaukee. At Good Land you won't find the walls covered with the typical generic flash art that you would at most shops, but you will find that they are covered exclusively in hand painted traditional artwork done almost all by the in house artists. You won't find that judgmental attitude that you get at some shops either. Ben, Mark and Isaac are all incredibly friendly, fun and personable. On top of that, they're skilled and professional. Whether it's your first tattoo or your 50th, these dudes truly care for their work and their clients and that is proven in each and every tattoo that they produce. I got my first tattoo done here by Isaac and I could not be happier. The shop is clean, well-lit, nicely decorated and in a good area. Isaac worked with me for an hour on perfecting my design, making sure I absolutely loved it. He was kind, funny, courteous, and made me feel comfortable and respected. I went and got a small tattoo done, a memorial to my grandmother and the people there were so nice. They were all very cool and chill and respectful. We were there yesterday and Bennn (Red Beard) the owner, tattooed my best friend. First of all let's briefly discuss the decor - HOLY SH%} BALLS! Stunning! I was dying over all the taxidermy. And ask about the hidden door!!!But on to the work! Ben et all were friendly, inviting, conversational, funny and just straight up chill dudes! There was NO BS! No one was stuck up, no judgements, no looking us up & down when we walked in like I feel at other shops. Straight up excellent customer service skills from all three bearded gentlemen tattoo artists which was refreshing. Plus loved the soda cooler. Even though my friends design was simple she still wanted feedback and Ben took the time to weigh in. He was great. I've now been here twice and love these guys. I always design my own work but their designs are siiiick. The shop is spotless yet inviting and all the artists here are fun yet still the most professional ones I've ever come across. They will not judge you for anything you get -- I've seen Shorewood housewives getting little dolphin tattoos and big metal chicks getting gory pieces up and down their thigh and they treat everyone with equal respect. They might be a newer tattoo shop, but the tattooers are far from that. Highly skilled group of individuals who can produce top notch work. I drove all the way from Chicago to check out this shop and I was blown away. Very clean, a lot of open space, and cool flash to choose from. I'm looking forward to getting tattooed by everyone! So far, I got tattooed by Mark Meyer and the results were great! He is incredibly friendly and always willing to work with you to come up with something you're happy with. When I go to Goodland I always get my tattoos done by Mark. He has never let me down, his work is awesome. On top of that I love hanging out in the shop. i was looking for a new shop and my friend suggested this one, as steve was her artist at previous shops. my boyfriend and i walked in one afternoon after seeing they took walk-ins and we were both able to leave that day with new ink done by mark and ben. both tattoos healed beautifully and now we're repeat offenders. i'll never go to anyone else. plus they make your time there entertaining!
