Overpriced, blown out tattoo, I am so bummed.  My friends and I went here for a Saturday walk in to do simple outlines of our home states.  I am usually very particular about finding the perfect artist but I figured with the simplicity of the tattoo that it would be hard to mess up.  I had never heard of a tattoo "blowout" before, but the ink on my very simple outline is definitely smudged, making the lines look less clean. Worked with Mr Chuk on a cover up for a tattoo on my foot. I wanted a mandala in monochromatic blues. He nailed it. The line work is excellent and the colors are beautiful. Great experience! Heidi did a great job with my tattoo. She is meticulous and detail oriented, and was both focused on what I want out of my tattoo and willing to share her opinion about what would work and look best. She did a great job executing on the design we came to. The shop is clean, which is important to me. It's small, and the workstations are a little cramped because of that, but it's not bad. The space layout efficiently utilizes what they have, so it doesn't feel as cramped as it might otherwise. It's not private, so if that's important to you that might be an issue, but most shops I've been to aren't. Read Less

I went here yesterday during walk in day we got there at 11am and there were others ahead of us which was fine as we wanted lunch anyways. We gave our name and number, received a call saying we can come back at 1:40pm and were all done (my mum and I both had tattoos) done by 4:30pm. Jim did both of ours and I have to say the experience was very pleasant. He talked to us almost the entire time and made us feel very comfortable. Went in on a walk-in Saturday, the front desk worker was great and friendly. I brought in my own design. Chuck changed it slightly to make it work. When he got started he went so fast and even boasted on how fast he was. Not something I wanted to hear. Didn't have the talent to back it up though because he botched some basic line work and clearly doesn't know what water color looks like. I'll be going elsewhere to get it fixed once it heals. I just recently had my consulting appointment with owner and artist, after my appointment booked I start working on my design since I am artist myself and want to have my own design tattooed. On my next appointment day I showed up with my design and artist looked at it and said that it fits perfect may be minor changes which I am agree to have. Here comes the big question (How much it will be), on my first appointment owner told me big art like this (chest+Shoulder+ arm) we charge by session (8 hour ink work= $500). I was agree to it, now on my second appointment the artist saying it will be hourly $100 totally different than what I have been told. Now the artist said that he will talk to an owner and call... It been week I haven't get call back. I don't know what to say but (wrong pricing, no phone call back) these issue are totally leaving wrong image for this place in my mind. My first tattoo at Ultimate Arts and second overall and it was such a great experience. I have several friends that have been going here for years. I'm glad I finally decided what I wanted and picked Ultimate Arts. Heidi was my artist and she did a great job. I gave her a few pictures of what I wanted and just told her the colors I for sure wanted and that i wanted some watercolor, but the rest was up to her. I'm fairly new to Madison and did quite a bit of research about the shops in the area. I finally chose UAT and to see Heidi. I came in with very little direction and just a general concept and let her run with it. It is by far the most beautiful piece I have and she did amazing job designing it and tattooing it. I had an appointment with chuck on Friday feb 3 but when I went in there was a miss communication between him and the desk and my appointment was put in blocked off time. F@$&ing awesome! My first tattoo was done somewhere else and left me unimpressed. A friend has recommend ultimate arts so I have them a try. Could NOT be happier! I had a very vague idea of what I wanted done, and Stripe turned it in to a freaking masterpiece. All of the staff was incredibly friendly which made the whole atmosphere feel positive creating a good experience for myself and the other customers there. The pricing was very very reasonable. Stripe did my tattoo and he did an amazing job, better than I could have hoped. I doubt that I will ever get a tattoo done at another shop again. When I wanted to get my first tattoo I checked out Ultimate Arts. I didn't expect a very wholesome environment in a tattoo studio, but an entire wall has artistic nude portraits of women with tattoos, the magazine rack sports Playboy, and the back room I was in had nude images as well. I personally didn't mind but that prevented me from being able to bring any of my church-going friends with me for moral support.During my consultation I was quoted for $100 for a small tattoo on the back of my neck, which was much less than I was expecting. I went in the next Saturday for their walk-ins, and gave them my number while I hung out around East Towne until they called me saying an artist was available. Then I met Rich.For my first appointment he was very professional and worked well and quick and got me exactly what I wanted. I was very happy with my tattoo and how he bandaged it. He walked me through everything I would need to know for the first couple weeks while it healed. He even dropped $25 off the $125 price when I told him the original quote was $100! When I went in for my free touch up, he wasn't so professional. He started joking about me taking off my shirt for him, about him taking off his pants, and things like that. When he started probing about my next tattoo, he mentioned a free one. This was to be in exchange for my nude modeling services so he could practice painting. I was extremely put off and made it clear that I was not interested and he dropped it.I went back for my next tattoo, and the issue came up again. He was again uncomfortably flirtatious and kept pushing for a photoshoot. I told him it wasn't happening and he dropped it. I'm going back in for my touch up soon, which I'm dreading, and then I'll be going elsewhere for my tattoos. Absolutely beautiful artwork, but I'm too uncomfortable to go back anymore. Read Less

This place is very professional and clean. Started with a consultation. It took almost a month to get in with an appointment. I worked with Adam and he was great.They also have a big drive in December partnering with WJJO and the USMC for toys for tots.Love my new ink and I will definitely go back. I have had my last few tattoos done by Rich at Ultimate Arts...the man is amazing!
