While we had wanted to get a tattoo, they were booked up for today. However their staff was very nice. We were told at first it wasn't handicap accessible because the adjoining salon next door was closed (only on sundays) so if someone in a wheelchair had wanted to get a tattoo they wouldn't be able to go on a Sunday. Originally we were turned away, but one of the employees there went the extra mile and allowed us to check out their back entrance which gave us no issue to access. Their expertise makes for the best piercing experiences I have had. Almost painless, always extremely sanitary. The piercers are welcoming but also exacting. Have worked with John, Eric, and Jared, and would highly recommend all three. The shop may be slightly more expensive than others in the area, but the price is well worth it. Claire is amazing! Not only is her line work exceptional, but she is one of the most kind hearted girls I have had the chance to talk to. I've had piercings done at both the downtown and west side locations. They are very professional and have a great selection of jewelry. Both John and Myke made me feel comfortable during the whole process and my piercings turned out great. They are on the pricey side but I had much better experiences at Blue Lotus than other places I've gotten piercings done at that we're cheaper. Read Less

I have visited the downtown location a couple of times as well the Westside location as well. Each time I receive prompt and polite service and my needs are quickly met. I've visited with a big group getting ink touch ups and for myself for jewelry piercing needs and I've left happy each time and my family/friends felt the same way as well. Blue lotus lives up to their reputation as being one of the hot spots in Madison to get piercings done. Their staff was polite and professional and certainly knew what they were doing. Very clean, professional atmosphere. Staff are knowledgeable, welcoming, and make you feel comfortable. Can run a bit pricier than other places in the area but piercings and tattoos are not something you want to cheap out on, so the slightly higher prices are more than worth it. Only thing to be aware of is the lack of parking there sometimes is in the area, but there are multiple "no parking" lots that you can always get away with parking in for the time you are in there. My sister and I went in to get our tongues pierced and we absolutely loved Eric and the reassurance he gave us. He did an absolutely wonderful job. Keep in mind that this review is for ONE ARTIST! His name his Rob who apparently is the owner and by the way he treated my friend and I, he should be ashamed of himself. I've been tattooed there many times with my friends when they have gotten their ink and I have gotten a few tattoos there myself. Some of the artists have become very good friends of mine and the staff, when I have been there, has been at ease and knowledgable. All of those times I have felt comfortable and it has always been an experience that I look forward to. This last time (2/2013) was completely different. This guy Rob was working at a station next to me and as I was talking during my tattoo to my friend to keep my mind off of the pain, he kept interrupting us to make a rude comments that were completely uncalled for. The staff was even surprised at some of the things that he said. They all seemed to be on edge and I was glad to get out of there, his energy was just negative. Not something you want when you're getting a tattoo. After we left he had the nerve to continue to make rude comments about my friend and I, little did he know that one of my very good friends was waiting to be tattooed. While I love the staff, minus this guy, it will be extremely difficult for me to go back there because of the way that I was treated. I have been to Blue Lotus a couple times now. I went about six years ago when Rich was working there (now at Ultimate Arts) and he did a nautical star back piece on me that turned out fantastic and still is years later. I went a couple years ago to one of their newer artists who is still there (I won't name names), but I was rather unimpressed. The tattoo that he gave me was a large chaos star surrounded by black. The lines were blurry, not straight, and I had blow-out over about an inch of tattoo that was VERY obvious. He dug WAY too deep to the point that I bled for days had huge scabs, weeped both ink and plasma for days, and had lots of visible scarring. After a couple years it was really faded and looked like hell. Ultimately, I did not go back to him for touch-ups as I did not trust his work. I finally went to Ultimate Arts and had Steve reink it and it looks fantastic. I know artists can have bad days and all, but I'm not going back to Blue Lotus. Read Less

Myke at Blue Lotus did 3 ear piercings for me. It was a very positive experience. Myke explained each step and was very gentle. These were cartilage piercings and they were virtually painless. I recently went to The Blue Lotus on Gilman for my second tattoo. This was a great experience from beginning to end. Dana did my tattoo, and she did a fantastic job! My husband and I went in with some designs for her. She took those designs and tweaked them and came back with a beautiful design for me and did it that same night. She's a talented artist. I researched many Madison tattoo shops, and I'm happy I chose Blue Lotus. I thought the price was reasonable for what I had done. Read Less
