My artist was Aaron, who was highly professional and caring torwards me. I walked in on Sunday with an idea, paid my deposit, and came back on Tuesday. He happily altered his first drawing a bit to my liking, and we got started shortly after. The entire tattoo took two hours which we mostly spent talking, the game of thrones conversation was my favorite! The space was clean, and other staff was charming- making me feel at home. I've gotten 2 tattoos from Black Moon, both done by Zach Roman. The first was a large piece inspired by Jurassic Park/World and the second was a small tattoo I got during a Friday the 13th special they ran in October.First off, Zach is a really awesome guy. Was super fun to work with, was always very professional, and made the time while I was getting tattooed fly by. The shop has such a great aesthetic and their choice in music is prime. Today was my first time at black moon- I just moved in down the st so it was a 2 minute walk! I went in to have a very small tattoo reworked/touched up that I wasn't 100% happy with from elsewhere. Aaron fixed my tattoo and he was awesome! I was crazy lady perfectionist status about this tattoo because it has a lot of meaning to me and I am just crazy in general haha. Anyway- Aaron made sure every bit of the tattoo was perfect before I left the chair which meant a lot to me. It was a quick in and out thing, but his number one priority was making sure I left satisfied with my permanent artwork. I felt listened to, which sometimes you don't always feel when getting a tattoo (I am no rookie, have quite a bit of ink). 5+ stars. I know I will be back for future tattoos! Read Less

I meant to write this review a trillion years ago, but better late than never. Zach is the man, no other way to put it. The first tattoo I had him do was my Army combat patch. The work is great, but what really struck me was his passion for the craft. Since then he has tattooed me twice more. There were four of us and we called on the afternoon before Easter to see if they could accommodate us. Gabe was professional and helpful and they fit us in that afternoon. Gabe was amazing and fun to work with. The staff was fun and playful with our group and very accommodating. Gabe was very careful with her procedure, and we could tell that she had a process in place for keeping things clean and using clean tools. All four of us had absolutely NO problems (no pink/redness, no reaction, no oozing....though there was a bit of whining during the procedure :p). It looked great! Gabe even texted one of us a few days later to check on us to make sure everything was ok. We loved the experience! I had my tattoo done here with Derek, and it was definitely a good decision on my part. I came in around 5:20 (they close at 6) only expecting to make an appt, but he was very nice and offered to tattoo me then (it was just one word on my forearm, so it was a quick one. Still, I thought this was nice.) He was on the quieter side, but very kind and patient with any questions and adjustments. Very professional. The word I wanted was in my mother's handwriting, and he replicated it perfectly with very solid line work. While at his previous job, the owner Zach, pushed me into making an appointment before he had a sketch. When I arrived at the appointment, the sketch looked nothing like I asked for. Zach disregarded the entire design and he cited all sorts of issues with it that were not a problem at the initial conference. He also admitted to throwing it together at the last minute. I agreed to reschedule hoping it would be better next time. When I called back, Zach had quit to open th...is business but already cashed in my deposit. When I contacted him and the previous company, I was told there is nothing either could do... that the money was gone and neither would refund it. I would not trust the owner of Black Moon Tattoo, Zach, to run a reputable business. I started getting work from Zach about a year ago. (At that time he was working at Spike o Matic.) All of the work he has done for me has been amazing, even better than what I expected. Oh man, I love this place. I have been seeing Zach for a while now and recently had my first appointment in his new space! I can't say enough good things about Zach in general. He does amazing American traditional and is also so easy to work with--he approaches everything with enthusiasm and it's clear he puts 100% into every tattoo he does. I completely trust his vision when it comes to both artwork and placement. For the tattoo I got this week on my shoulder, I had initially envisioned it oriented more towards the front of my arm. He explained that it would flow better if its center was positioned more on my outer arm, and of course he was completely right. It looks amazing and flows perfectly with my body and other tattoos!The aesthetic of the shop is killer, without being pretentious. The open layout is fun as you can talk with other artists and customers. I am super picky and took years to determine which tattoo I wanted. If I'm going to take the time and energy to have something permanently attached to me, it better be good. I visited a number of artists at a number of shops, before I found someone brave and bold enough to attempt a large, highly detailed tattoo. I choose Jason because he was the only person I felt could handle the detail needed to meet my lofty expectations. My tattoo was above and beyond my expectations.
