When looking for a place to get my first large tattoo done at, I did hours of research before deciding on A Dead Anchor Tattoo. After looking at the artists' portfolios on the shop website, I filled out the straight-forward consult form provided and was put in contact with an artist named Brandon. I had already gotten two quality smaller tattoos done at a different shop in Madison before the first appointment at this shop and was hoping for a similar experience. Getting tattooed at A Dead Anchor Tattoo was a wonderful experience. The shop was well organized with each station clean and sanitized before every session. Sitting on a chair for hours at a time while being tattooed could seem like forever but at this shop, the artists make it feel as though you've known each other forever and really make sure you understand everything going on while the tattooing takes place. After three sessions, we were able to snap a picture of the finished piece and I was absolutely blown away by what it had become. Brandon is a phenomenal artist who knows how best to take your idea for a tattoo and create an astonishing piece of artwork. Jordanne is hands down the best tattoo artist I've ever worked with. She can somehow get into my brain and see exactly what I want! Her colors are vibrant and fun, as is her personality. Piercers here are amazing. I've gotten my septum, nipples, and industrial bar done here and haven't had a problem with any of them. Jordanne has always been very insightful and let's customers know what's best even if it means losing a sale. All my piercings are perfectly placed. Would definitely recommend to anyone even thinking about getting a piercing. Very friendly and informative. I like the jewelry used for the piercings at A Dead Anchor Tattoo so much that I wear them more than any other piece I own. Quality jewelry, great prices, precise piercings, and knowledgeable people. I do not know anything about A Dead Anchor's Tattoo's, but if you are going in for a piercing, I would find a different shop. My friend and I went in; I got my industrial pierced, and she got her nose pierced. They told my friend they could put in a hoop instead of a stud for her nose, and when they put in the hoop, it looked terrible. It did not fit on her face, and it was huge! We went to a different shop to buy some cleaner, and they pointed out that her nose was pierced on an angle, and that she could never wear a hoop because it would not fit with the angle of the piercing. The other shop replaced her hoop with a stud. My piercing did not have any visible problems, but I am concerned with the quality of the jewelry because I have sensitive skin. Tattoos may be great here, but if you do not want to take risks with piercings, go somewhere else! Read Less

Okay, first, the picture is of the tattoo just after we finished a day sitting. In three weeks we will be adding white and some touch ups so it is not entirely complete, but you wouldn't know that to look at it. Frankly, I can not say enough good things about this group of artists and this business. Obviously this tattoo means so much to me as I have been planning it for a while and she represents so much of my journey through life at this point. Liz Vonborden is stunning. She is competent and an excellent artist. Look at the detail of this tattoo. She kicks ass. Poor thing doesn't realize she has a lifetime client now. 8-) I cannot recommend A Dead Anchor Tattoo and Liz more. I am thrilled with their great service, attitude and expertise. Jordanne is literally the best tattoo artist I have ever had experiences with. She was very "gentle" during that tattooing process. Everything was throughly cleaned. I've gotten tattoos from two different artists that worked here now. This shop is really open and had a comfortable feel. Everyone seems really nice and welcoming too. Besides being very poorly located and hard to fine, Came in to get simple writing drawn place in a circle and was advised to and i quote "take that idea, go home to this website, generate what'd you'd like and come back". I went there believing in Tattoo "Artists" and left very disappointed. If you arent able to draw words in a circle, I don't believe you are a True artist. Plus points shop was Clean and Professional looking, just wouldn't be able to say the work was good as I went elsewhere for my tattoo the very same day. Read Less

Great people, very professional. Brandon spent about a half hour with me on the phone for my first tattoo, explaining the process and details for my simple tattoo. Pretty good. Kind of hard to find as they're located in a basement and the entrance isn't very noticeable. A little cramped. But the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I got a piercing from Anna. It was almost over and done with by the time I had time to think about the pain. Would definitely recommend, at least for piercings! Read Less

I first went to A Dead Anchor Tattoo to get my third tattoo over 2 years ago. I have gone back for all of my tattoos since, (half sleeve, 5 more, and remastering a tattoo from another shop), and will continue to go back for all the rest that I want. Always clean and welcoming.
