Just got my first tattoo with Mav! I had researched artists in Portland and (I actually found him through Atlas' website) decided he was the one. I went in and booked an appointment and now 4 days later I'm tatted up! I got a custom text tattoo in a fictional language. I brought in an example of the font I wanted and he drew up a few options for me. I got it on my upper thigh - I had originally told him ribs with thigh as the alternate if it wouldn't lay properly and because he said it would be easier for a first timer. Mav was so professional and friendly. I love that it's his own shop so I didn't have to worry about other people gawking. He was gentlemanly, but wasn't hesitant to get hands on when figuring out the positioning, which was awesome. All in all, I couldn't be happier with my tattoo itself, the price, and the time it took (1 hr). He will definitely be my first choice for my next tat. Read Less

I wandered into Mav's shop and got to talking about my idea of an inner wrist tattoo. He was very friendly, had great suggestions to keep in mind to get the best tattoo and within the next 1.5 hours, I left happy with my new ink. We spoke briefly, I brought in some fonts and he analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of each font. We agreed on one and he drew up some sketches. He came up with three and I fell in love with the last one, which is what I had envisioned. He asked me three times if the spelling was correct, which it was, but I appreciated his thoroughness before the tattoo.After 20 minutes, I was successfully tattooed.The shop is super clean and loaded with art. Just got my latest tattoo from Mav at Deluxe. Fantastic shop. Super clean and well organized. This is a shop for those that are wanting excellent tattoos. There are so many tattoo shops now. Its hard to find traditional tattooers these days. Most are pop up shops with no respect for the process of how a tattooer gets to be a tattooer. You don't just draw a little and buy a tattoo machine and go for it. There is a tradition to it. There is a process. Deluxe Tattoo has been through the process and takes it seriously. I ended up here by accident--I really had never thought of getting a tattoo. But circumstances conspired, among them this clean, pleasant shop and the varied and beautiful art displayed. Somehow I came away with a wonderful little bird on my inner arm and a new appreciation of tattooing. Mav is an artist and he refined my design and made it happen way better than expected. It hurt at the time (new respect for those people with lots and lots of tattoos!) but it healed up quickly. So I talked my cousin into going and she had the same experience.
