This was my first tattoo and it was easy as pie. I could tell by the smile and then intense focus that I was seeing on Jenny V's face that things were going well. It took half the time that we had planned for! Lots of the staff gathered around after it was done and oohed and aahed over the finished product. I have now had a consultation and two sessions with Kendal. The shop is so clean and beautiful with friendly staff to greet you. Kendal has been so wonderful to work with. Many artists turned me down for my cover-up (it covers both feet) and Kendal never made it seem like a lost cause. Wow...what a great place to get a first tattoo. Before even coming into the shop, all phone calls and emails were incredibly helpful and the receptionist was so kind. I came in for a consultation with Jenny, who was better than I could have asked for. She clearly explained everything about a tattoo, and care for it before and after. She came up with a GREAT design and I'm in love with it. I was so nervous for my first tattoo but it went way better than I expected. Jenny is said she is known for having "a lighter hand" than most with the pen. The salon was so clean, and the fact that it was all female artists helped me feel more at ease. The building was easy to find, and parking was free and right next to the location. It's in a beautiful part of Queen Anne. No sketchy people lurking by buildings. So overall this place is amazing. I’ve debated about posting a review for months but I have properly collected my thoughts from the experience. The receptionist and my artist Laura were very nice and welcoming and my session was fine but the work turned out to be disastrous. It was not what I envisioned, the size and placement was off, way too big for my frame and the shading was too dark. Partly because of overall miss communication but also, because what a lot of the comments have mentioned, the shop being so ‘laid back’, happened to be a disadvantage to its customer. One specific account was during consultation Laura asked me a choice about color and I specifically stated a couple of times I wanted black ink. She would act disappointed and respond “well personally I like color.” The session should be about the customer, not the artist. Right before the session started, she asked me if I would considered laser options for the tissue she was about to put ink on (the tattoo is a cover-up for acne scarring). If she was asking me about other cosmetic options right before our session, it showed she was not confident in her ability to do the work I initially discussed with her and she should have respectfully declined. I trusted Laura to know what was best for my body and counted on her professionalism. After back and forth emails between the owner and Laura, after the session, I was able to get a big refund because of my dissatisfaction. I’ve been going through embarrassing laser removal treatment, ever since and this Is my account of what happened at Damask. With all the events that occurred Damask did however handle the dissatisfaction and refund with sympathy and effectiveness. Read Less

My tattoo isn't even finished yet, but i'm so pleased with my last two appointments that I still want to leave a good review because this place deserves it. I thought no body would want to tattoo me since i was freshly 18, getting a huge chest piece as my first tattoo, and wanted to cover up scars. Jillian was super sweet and I never felt judged my her, I felt comfortable even though I was topless, which was an area of huge insecurity for me. She definitely takes her time and pays attention to detail, when she was putting stencils on she would wipe a couple of them off and put them on again which i appreciated because it made me know she wanted it as perfect as possible and wasn't settling for any layout. other artists were curious to see my tattoo but were respectful and asked permission, which i was fine with since it's a professional environment, but I appreciate them asking first. She was also a really fun person to talk to, even though my tattoo isn't finished yet i've already gotten a lot of compliments and can't wait for the end result. 10/10 would recommend this place for anyone who is willing to pay the price for a well done tattoo. I definitely spent more money than I was originally planning, but I cannot complain. It was worth every penny. When you talk to the store about what you want and what style you're looking for, they pair you up with an artist that best fits your needs. I got the pleasure of working with Jillian who is absolutely amazing! She made our sessions so much fun that I was honestly sad at my last visit because I wouldn't be able to talk to her anymore :( it was difficult booking appointments. I would often times have to wait months in between sessions, so my sleeve work ended up taking about 6-7 months from my first consultation to finish. Though, I didn't mind at all, it gave me some time to heal and save up more money. Jillian is wonderful in everything she does. I was worried because I knew exactly what I wanted, but am not a very artistic person and had trouble presenting what I saw in my head. She was able to capture a vision I had and bring it to life way better than I could've ever imagined. Jillian's drawing of my vision was even better than my original vision. She's super patient, gentle, and understanding and would always give me breaks when I asked. I've been tattooed by men in the past and they were always so heavy handed. Jillian mastered the art of tattooing just enough to break the skin so the ink stays, while minimizing the pain. I love Jillian and her work. I love the entire store. I got my first "big" piece here back in 2014. I needed to cover scars due to my career but my tattoo artist failed to do so. The tattoo parlor is clean and gorgeous. The other artists seem to be more experienced so I can't really speak for them. My artist was Angela. I was so rushed and desperate to get my scars covered I didn't realize how crappy the outline was. Here is a picture of the piece I got. As you can see the lines are OFF and crooked and look terrible. Can't even get a cover up piece for this disaster. Will be getting it lasered and covered with another tattoo in the near future. If you want to have something beautiful to look at for a lifetime do not go to Angela. I should note, I asked her to book me in to cover the scars more since she didn't do it right the first time and she said she was booked for the rest of the year. RIGHT. Read Less

This was my first tattoo and I was very nervous about it.  I have a phobia of needles, but this concept had been in my head for years and it was really important to me to push through the fear and do it.  Angela was wonderful to work with.  I felt very comfortable talking through the design and my fears with her (she never once made me feel judged about my phobia and that's huge!) and trusting her to guide me through this process. The art that Angela did is incredible.  She definitely heard what was important to me and came up with a design that honored that and somehow still blew me away and surprised me.  We decided to do it all in one go (my request) - in all about 3 hours.  Angela was easy to talk to and kind and once I got over the initial anxiety I felt very comfortable throughout the whole process.  About 1/3rd of the way through I told my partner that I could already tell I'd be getting more tattoos in the future -  I love my tattoo and the experience was wonderful! My tattoo by Shiloah is beautiful and everything that I had wanted. I gave them creative freedom to draw my tattoo as they saw fit and I was not disappointed! If they had a 6th star I'd have chosen it. My brother and I had been talking about getting tattoos for about 3 years, and been mentally designing them for at least that long. Being our first tattoos, I researched the hell out of my options and was fortunate enough to get a call back from Damask on very short notice. First off, it's an amazingly comfortable place. It really does have a "spa like" vibe when you walk in. For someone who has never been faced with the needle, it was a really good start to the experience- from the warm greeting to the complimentary tea/coffee. Bree Giesy was our artist, and was just awesome to work with. She worked with us for a while on the design, location, size, and mocked up some pretty impressive artwork in a short time. I got a tattoo at Damask a few days ago, from Jude, and I couldn't be more impressed and happy with the outcome. I thought about this tattoo for a long time, and I did a lot of research to find the right place and the right artist for the style I was looking for. Damask and Jude delivered, times a thousand. I want another already! For starters, I love the inclusive vibe at Damask... both in how the business is run, and how clients are treated. I hate walking into a place like a tattoo studio, and feeling like I'm not part of the scene. I didn't get that at all at Damask. My whole experience was welcoming and comfortable. I will say that Jude is super, super laid back... from pre-appointment communication, to the consultation, to the actual day-of communication and tattooing (which initially freaked me out a little bit because I tend to err on the side of over-communication and being fully in control, but in the end actually made me feel more comfortable and confident... go with Jude and you'll be in good hands).Jude's "bedside manner" was impeccable. Having only one small tattoo, which I got 13 years ago, I was very nervous for the large-ish piece I was getting on my back. Jude played great music throughout, and talked a bunch through the first bit of the tattooing, which really helped calm my nerves... and when I got lightheaded and had to take a break, Jude took that very seriously, not letting us continue until I ate a snack and my hands stopped shaking (and also made me feel like it was totally normal and like I was still a badass... thanks!). Of my 2.5 hour sitting, only the last 30 minutes or so were painful... I don't know if it was Jude's expert, light touch or if I really am just a badass (just kidding, it was definitely that expert, light touch). The one thing I do remember about getting my first tattoo years ago, is how horrible the healing process was, and how painful and red it was for days after. My experience with this new tattoo is so much better. Three days in, and all I've experienced is mild discomfort. It seems to be healing up really nicely and quickly! (And, bonus, the products Damask sells feel good and smell nice!)I'm seriously blown away by how rad and beautiful my tattoo is. Jude took my requests and ideas, and created something even better than I had imagined. I feel so lucky that I get to carry this artwork with me forever (and really can't wait to add to it).
