I brought in a picture of my grandfather's sail boat asking if they could draw up a tattoo of the boat. It came out great! The staff was also very relaxed and reassuring. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I had them write the boat's name on one of the sails, which the letters got a little mushed on. Kali is the best! I originally got my nipples pierced somewhere else and had one of the piercings go through my areola, not my nipple. I went to sunken ship and Kali confirmed my suspicions and took the barbell out for me, but I still chose to get it redone at the original shop because they wouldn't offer me a refund and offered to redo it for free. Once again, I had a feeling my areola was pierced. I came into sunken ship again and Heidi, who was also great, also looked for me and confirmed that my areola, not my nipple, was pierced again. They were both super welcoming and happy to look at my piercing without charge. After healing, I decided to say goodbye to the money I wasted at the original shop and get it redone for the final time at sunken ship and it's perfect! Kali actually pierced my nipple and not my areola, she was always very kind, professional, made a comfortable environment and is clearly extremely knowledgeable in her practice. Had an appointment at 6, didn't start tattooing until 7:15. I made an appointment for a reason. The service was not great either. I know people who work at tattoo places are more rough around the edge, but I would say some were unfriendly here. I came here to get my first tattoo in June of last year, with Morgan Dana. It was a simple minimalist design that I drew, with a few modifications from the artist. When I had my initial consultation, the receptionist was very helpful with matching me with artists, and Morgan was perfect. I have always heard wonderful things about this shop, and am so happy my siblings and I decided to go here for such an important tattoo. Our mother recently passed away and we all flew in to be with her in the end. She was an avid card writer and wrote lots of cards and had epic handwriting. You could know it's her handwriting fromAcross the room. I needed to make appts for all 4 of us for the next day. I messaged the shop late at night and to my surprise got a reply! The shop owner was so helpful with answering my questions, and texting the artist about us. We all got booked and and I think we had 15 hrs to spare. Super short notice, but they made it work! Our artist Ben was AMAZING! He took the time to trace the writing, a different saying for all of us too. He said at one point he wanted to "do your mom justice." I loved that he actually cared to make it right for not only us, but our mom. Our tattoos came out exactly what we were picturing. Had my navel piercing done here about 1.5 years ago, well the darn thing wouldn't heal because my kids kept hitting it. Finally just decided to take it out and let it close up. Got my second small tattoo here a while ago. Emailed them in the morning for availability and got in later that afternoon. My tattoo artist (...sorry can't remember his name!) was super nice and reassuring with my dumb fear of needles haha. I can't say enough great things about the piercing done at Sunken Ship. I took my daughter there (no kids under 9, I like that they have that rule... must be tough and responsible cookies!) and Heidi took special care to make her comfortable. Pricing was better than I expected and she did a beautiful job! I have friends with horror stories from the mall (don't take your kids to Claire's!) and I have no worries about her piercing and feel well equipped to deal with any issues. Really a great place! Matt is the owner and has a beautiful, clean retro vibe going. The space is inviting and he's got some great artists in there with him. It's a little hidden inside the adorable vintage/thrift shop but the space inside is nice and big. Morgan was my tattoo artist and I got a small western hemlock behind my ear. It's adorable and I love it; however, I tried contacting for another tattoo and haven't heard back and it's been a month or so now. I first came into Sunken Ship last year when my sister was visiting. We both got really simple, quick black tattoos to commemorate her 21st birthday. I loved the place so much I came back to get an old tattoo covered with something new. I had been following the shop on instagram and fell in love with Morgan's work, so I emailed her! You walk in and it is half a vintage antique shop and half tattoo shop (dangerous while waiting for your appointment lol). Received my first tattoo yesterday by Morgan. She nailed it! I have two boys one who passed away last year, and I wanted to do something to honor him. I heard about Sunken Ship from a ton of friends, coworkers, and people in the community. My first concern was if the tattoo shop was clean and inviting. Everyone I've ever talked to answered enthusiastically "Yes!!!". Preston was amazing at communicating, planning, and doing my tattoo! I got my belly button pierced last week by Heidi, and she was absolutely wonderful! I was terribly anxious and anxiety-ridden before I got it pierced and she was very patient and understanding. Then, after having it pierced, I instantly got faint-y from such high anxiety and blood pressure, and again, she was very kind and understanding. She took the time to make sure I was okay, provide me with water and snacks, and was very concerned, which was reassuring. She also provided me with a lot of important/helpful information, which you don't normally get when you get pierced- at least I haven't. Very affordable, too! So- my best friend and I came  here on a total whim, wanting to get a daith piercing each.. and we received EXCELLENT service.Our piercer (Heidi) had a supremely soft touch- and was so quick in getting the job done. She was knowledgeable, skilled and it looks SO cute. However, not only that- but I had an older piercing (NOT done by Sunken Ship) that had sort of gone awry, without me actually knowing it. My ear was actually growing around the jewelry I had in (I know, super gross). However, Heidi helped me out, and made sure to fix me up before it got worse. My 2 sisters and myself had the pleasure of getting some artwork done here last Friday by the amazing Saw Blade. We had never been here before, but had heard many great things from, "Oh I've been there it's pretty cool!" to have you seen that tattoo floating around Facebook of Kurt Cobain? The guy who did it tattoos there." Needless to say, the shop definitely lived up to the hype. You have your choice of entrance options, one being alley and the other being street. As soon as you walk in the door, you can tell it's a cool place to be. There's a thrift shop in the front of the store with super rad clothes, shoes, and hats plus some miscellaneous odds and ends. You can even have a pretty woman moment if you so choose because there's a lounge area for the changing rooms. If the crushed red velvet couch and chairs in the lounge weren't enough, the tattoo side is even better. You have a few couches to choose from to comfortably wait your turn in plus you can see an abundance of work from all the talented artists there. Let us not forget the pieces that celebrate the namesake of the shop; every ship painting, photo, do dad, picture, figurine, statue you can imagine is hanging in the walls all the way up to the high ceilings. After 35 years I got my 2nd tat. We lost our little black dog on Superbowl Sunday this year. A week later I had decided I wanted to get a tattoo of her. The people I know who had recently got tattoos suggested Sunken Ship. Oh my! I'm so glad I listened to them. The first thing I noticed about the shop is,,, it was SO clean and organized. The staff was all very nice and customer service was the best I have seen in a LONG time. I have worked in that capacity before, so I have a... tendency to be really critical about it. I should also mention my last tattoo was done in the lobby of a old hotel, in a little hole in the wall, that wasn't very clean, and this was in the days before AIDS, so they reused the needles, so you can understand my surprise. My husband and I walked in with a picture of our dog, and as soon as I asked about getting it done, all the staff at the counter said and called "Myke". I showed him the picture that I had, but he suggested that I should definitely take the one I liked the best. After setting up the appt, I emailed him my selection. The day of my appointment came, and he showed me the sketch of the picture that he made for the tattoo. I was stunned. Here she was, all drawn out and ready to go. The picture I had send him was kind of dark so I wasn't sure if he would be able to use it. 2.5 hours later, she was there on my arm. Made me cry after I left. I received very detailed information for after care for my tattoo. After the main tat heals I am going to go back to have some extra work done on it. If you are looking for a place to get an amazing tattoo from LOOK NO FURTHER! Went in last night for a very simple tattoo with my husband for our anniversary. Gary was ready and very willing to give us the best tattoo although the tattoo was for our ring fingers.
