I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a great professional tattoo experience. I've been in twice once with Phil and the second time with Patrick. Both super great guys who are very talented. Did a walk in with Patrick and he came up with a design that was better than my original idea. Let these guys do their thing because they have the experience and talent. Price is a little high but it doesn't even matter because if you want a good tattoo that will last it should be a bigger investment than one intends. For sure coming back here soon. Thanks Sabbath! Man, these guys are super nice and friendly! Phil is a master of traditional, Theresa is so detailed its mind boggling. Patrick and Saul hold it down with cool styles of their own as well. I would highly recommend Phil Freytag for any cover up work because he is a wizard at fixing other peoples mistakes which unfortunately do occur. Teresa Lane is a world class artist!  She can work in multiple styles, black and grey, color and she specializes in large scale pieces...whatever she does is absolutely amaze balls! THIS IS THE ONLY TATTOO PLACE I GO TO. I HAVE GONE THERE SINCE 2008 Saul has done 4 out of 5 of my tattoos and he is Incredible. A really cool lady at Sabbath from last year in 2015 did my fifth one and it's amazing. I think Teresa did mine. This place is just is amazing. Got a piece on my foot done by Teresa and I am super happy with the whole experience! This is the first time I have walked into a tattoo shop and felt totally respected and comfortable. Seems like some really cool artists work there, but they don't give off a pretentious vibe like a lot of other shops. I'm especially pleased that they have a female artist in the shop. The prices are very reasonable (I paid $100 for a piece that covers the entire top of my foot and includes color). I will definitely be back for my next tattoo with Teresa. Read Less

This shop is full of expeirence and if you know anything about the tattoo scene in town, you would know this! Every artist has years of experience and their very own style. Of course you should realize this before shopping around.They are VERY clean. Idk whats up with the comment about cleanliness and i wish people would educate themselves before making a statement like that. They have a person who soley focuses on cleaning and sterilization, always have. If you knew the workinga of a tattoo shop, you would know that anyrhing out of thw autoclave is packaged in sterile packs. I looooooove the tattoo I got from Teresa here! Her book is filled with amazing work, and I went in and requested her as my artist. She did a simple, feminine piece on my ribs, and it is my first tattoo ever. She explained how it was going to work very well, and I felt really comfortable and safe in her hands. I don't like making appointments for permanent things, so one day when I was in Bellingham I called Sabbath up and asked about walk-ins and if they had room and they said yeah so I came in. I had my tattoo idea on my computer and just had to email it to them so they could print it. They were really helpful! Saul was my artist and I talked about it with him and how I needed the font tweaked a little bit. I am bad at describing things, but Saul understood completely despite my vague description and it was perfect, put the stencil on just perfecting and finished my first tattoo in less than an hour. Only charged me $100 but I left a hefty tip because I was so impressed. They were professional and nice and they genuinely care. Saul was so calm and knew what he was doing. Going back again soon! I am not someone who gets a tattoo on a whim. My most recent was about 8 years in the making. So, I was very choosy about what artist I was going to have put this permanent piece on me. In a stroke of serendipity, a friend had his sleeve done by a new artist at Sabbath: Teresa. His tattoo was beautiful and I knew she was the one for me. It turned out she had only been in the area about 6 weeks when I went to see her but, thank goodness, plans to stick around for a while. She is AMAZING. She gave me exactly the tattoo I wanted, and helped me determine the size, color, and layout that would make it look its best. Bellingham is lucky to have her, and her talent is such I have already brought a friend to her for her first tattoo, and I'm pretty sure Teresa will be doing my next one as well. Phil (the owner) is the only person in town who I would trust with tattooing. He has done one for me that he drew himself (and is now featured in his artist book at the shop!!), and has done a couple on my wife. He is fantastic, creative and really sweet. Although I am done getting tattoos, whenever anyone asks me where they should go I always recommend Phil.Yes, this place is cash only... but most tattoo shops are. I went to get a tattoo here a few months ago after looking at most of the other shops in Bellingham. I settled on Sabbath mostly for the convenience and price; seriously, if these two points are something you're looking for in a tattoo shop, Sabbath cannot be beat. They were very inexpensive and very convenient. I looked through all the artist's portfolios, saw nothing to be disappointed about regarding their work. Some artists, (not gonna name names) had amazing work in their portfolio and are clearly talented in what they do.My artist was okay. Said artist had a really easy piece to do on my arm and they did well. I've seen some of their other work on friends and it ranges from 'so-so' to 'really good'Cleanliness was a big concern for me and this shop kind of scared me on that part. I've seen the artists let their friends who were eating food back in the area with them and even let a small dog run around in the shop where people were getting tattooed. I was up in Bellingham visiting a friend about a month back and decided, on a whim, to get a tattoo.  Stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon and Phil was able to accomodate me right away.  I totally lucked out with Phil as what I walked out with far suprassed my expectations. He tattooed an admittedly crappy part of the body (side of my hand), and I'm happy to report that even a month later, the lines are as crisp as day one, and none of it has fallen out. YAY! I was visiting a friend in Bellingham and we decided to get tattoos together while I was in town. After looking online at the portfolios and info we could find on tattoo shops in the area, we decided Sabbath seemed like the best one. We didn't make an appointment, we just walked in and Bob was there and chatted with us about what we were thinking of getting. He told us to come back in an hour (he had an appointment coming up) and he'd have some stuff drawn up for us. When we came back he showed us his sketches and they were WAY better than what we had even been envisioning! He tattooed both of us in about an hour and the prices were extremely reasonable. Bob was also a fun and entertaining tattooist, not to mention he is clearly very good at what he does. If I go back to Bellingham I would definitely go back into Sabbath for another tattoo.  One tip though, the place is CASH ONLY, so hit the bank before heading over. Read Less

My friend and I decided to get tattoos while she was in town visiting so after some internet research, we ended up at Sabbath. We told the guy (whose name I never knew, maybe Bob?) what we wanted and he drew us up sketches on the spot. Both of us liked the sketches he drew more than what we had been thinking. The best art I've ever had done was done here.  No doubt about it. And a year later it's still crisp and fresh looking, too.    I cannot say enough good things about this place.  They have awesome vintage flash,  mutated deer skulls and freaky rubber baby heads scattered around. The music is great.  Most importantly, the place is CLEAN and  the staff is great - there are no 'too cool for you, don't waste my valuable time' attitudes here.  They can handle whatever you want done, anywhere  you want it done, and are UNFAILINGLY polite and professional.  If I were getting my first tattoo, I'd go here.  In fact I wish I had.  But since I didn't, I plan on going here to get the bad ink fixed. I had a sleeve done here, and i couldn't be happier. I researched the (many) tattoo parlors in Bellingham, and the best work i saw was at Sabbath. (what Madhouse Tattoo is now called)I routinely get compliments on my sleeve, whether i'm here in town or elsewhere. Brion was a great and laid back artist, and has tons of tattooing experience.
