I am from Alaska where it's about $60 to get one lobe pierced. I figured since I'd be in Seattle anyway, the prices would be better and I could spend more on jewelry. The staff at the counter was great and let me take my time picking between several earrings and checking the prices for each individual jewelry piece. Note that the price is for individual pieces. The earrings I looked at were between $80-150 for 1. I ended up settling on a pair that were about 190 for the pair. I had Kyle as a piercer and it was quick and painless. This is coming from someone terrified of needles. I've also had my ears pierced before and each time the holes would close or it would get infected but so far I'm having no issues. We took our 5-year-old to Deep Roots to get her ears pierced. We knew we wanted to take her to a tattoo parlor because they're cleaner and have way more experience than places like Claire's. Best decision ever. Hand's down. The receptionist was amazing - as the first person we interacted with, she put everyone at ease. There were other kids waiting, and she managed everyone really well and seemed to really enjoy helping the little girls pick out their first pair of earrings. Then we met Ben, the piercer. Wow. I cannot day enough good things about him. He spoke directly to our daughter to make sure she was comfortable with what was happening, and explained that she could tell him to stop at any time. It was clear that she was in charge, and I appreciate that on so many levels. Also, he didn't talk down to her - his manner and approach were amazing. As for the actual piercings, everything was perfect. He had her so calm, she barely flinched. He was really clear with the follow-up care instructions, again talking directly to my daughter. I hadn't had a piercing since I was months old (ears) and I decided to get my nostril pierced in my 40s. After doing some research and scoping out businesses near me, I decided to go with Deep Roots. I recently got pierced here and have nothing but great things to say about Deep Roots! The studio itself is sparkling clean and fresh. They have a vast range of different jewelry to choose from. I had a helix piercing done by Kyle. Kyle is extremely professional and friendly. He cleaned my ear, explained the process, and after-care procedure clearly and answered all of my questions. Very clean and professional establishment. I was impressed with the customer service. We used them for piercings. I went there for piercing and here are my thoughts: PRO: - The guy who did piercing was friendly.- The guy offered me to come in at one month after so that they can switch them up with shorter posts for no cost.CON: - The positioning of piercing on my right ear was off (But, he did give me a chance to correct and I did not do so, so it is partly my fault. Plus, my friend says it is pretty centered and apparently it is hard to tell myself)- It is super expensive. I got pierced in two locations and it cost something like $250. And they don't let you know that backing of the pierce is a separate charge.- A girl who is a cashier was not that friendly. I asked her if I can take a look at a jewelry out of the case. She did that for me, but sort of reluctantly.- Finally, the jewelries I got looked different when they were inside the case. I've gotten all of my piercings at a deep roots shop! They are very thorough with paperwork, cleanliness, and even offering post-piercing check ups!Because their tattoo and piercing artists come from all over and change frequently, it's hard to say someone is the best. I've had different people each time but I will say the best ones have been easy-going and not trying to sell anything to me. My goal is always to go in and get out quick so I can get to my next thing! For the most part, waiting usually takes longer than the piercing! Took my 6 year old daughter here to get her ears pierced. Decided to go this route (versus Claires/the mall, etc) after doing a lot of research, and I'm so happy I did. This place was absolutely amazing, all of the staff were so professional and so friendly and nice, and Kyle (her piercer) was  absolutely amazing. My daughter was nervous - who wouldn't be! But Kyle was so perfect with her, I can't even explain how perfect he was. He was relaxed and professional, he talked to her every step of the way and explained what he was doing in a way that she trusted and understood. Got my Flat and Daith pierced here. I had previously had my daith pierced before, you could still clearly see where so I think that's why getting my daith pierced again went well, but as my Flat was getting pierced. Pain was normal, until the man piercing me put the jewelry in and was not being in any way gentle and broke the top of it off in my ear. He then yanked the jewelry out of my ear (rather then putting a piercing needle in the end of it and transferring the jewelry out, then carefully transferring new jewelry in) , trying to go fast enough to put another one in, it caught on my ear, I started bleeding everywhere. A huge blood clot came out of my ear, my mom and friend were both shocked as to how unsafe the man was being. It's been about 2 months now and my daith never hurts, hasn't gotten infected ( I do not sleep on the side of the piercings) but my flat isn't healing right, constantly is infected, and hurts without even being bumped, touched or anything of the sort.And the new jewelry he put in snapped after the first month so I made the trip to Everett Painless Steel to get a new better quality piercing Read Less

Great experience all around! My 8 year old daughter has been begging for months to have her ears pierced, and I decided to get my ears pierced along with her. I heard about Deep Roots from a friend who'd heard it was highly recommended. I did a little research to confirm that, and decided this was the place for our mom and daughter ear piercing adventure. I thought it might be weird to bring my kid to a tattoo and piercing shop, but it wasn't at all. The shop is scrupulously clean - I mean, clean like a doctor's office. We were greeted at the front desk by a very pleasant young woman who showed us an array of pretty earrings to choose from. We had to wait a little bit because we went in on a Saturday morning and they take care of piercings on a first come, first served basis. Our piercer was Dave, and he was fantastic. Extremely calm, professional and knowledgeable. He was very patient with my daughter, who got nervous (and even cried a bit) about having her ears pierced. He was meticulous about doing everything hygienically and piercing our ears in a proper spot. My daughter and I are very happy with our new piercings. Why would I want to:-Hear to how much the artist had to drink the night before-Hear that the artist's clothing is smelly because it's all so dirty-Come back to a place where the artist touches dirty things with his gloves (like the floor) and then touches me-Come back to a place where the artist lets the bandage wrap he is about to put on my open wound rest on his (according to him) filthy sweatshirt before being applied to my skin-Come back to a place where the artist gets mad and defensive when I ask politely for him to use fresh gloves and wrapping-Hear how much more the artist could be making in California Read Less

My teenage daughter wanted a second ear piercing and we decided to do piercing studs rather than normal ear ring back earrings so they would not bend or have backs fall off. The staff here was very patient and kind and made it a far more enjoyable experience than her 1st hole which had been done at a place where they used the stapler like thing to force earrings into her ears. I'm not a fan of piercings all over the body, but I can highly recommend this place for those who are or for people who like us were just looking for a more stable reliable ear piercing than the stapler like method. I would not recommend for kids under 14 though because it might be too intense for them. Lovely front desk staff helped us pick out the earrings, and Dae was 100% perfect as he talked her through what would happen at every step. If I could give this shop zero stars I would. I have gone to this place before for piercings and have to say that those are well overpriced already. Recently, I went in to receive a new memorial tattoo. I wanted everything very specific and small. I planned to have the artwork done by their tattoo artist Paul. When I went in for the consultation, I told him my plans for the artwork and exactly what I wanted, even showing multiple pictures. After discussing, Paul asked me to pay the deposit fee of $100 and no other charges were mentioned. I paid with my debit card but they then charged me $104 which should have only been the credit card fee.A couple weeks later I went back in for the actual tattoo appointment. I had to sign the release forms which included the price on them. The contract CLEARLY stated that the price range was $200. Nowhere on the contract did it tell me a per hour charge. Further down on the contract it states that the price would be changed if the artwork was changed.I then went back and sat with Paul, the artist. I told him that I wanted the tattoo smaller than the original plan. This should have then lowered the price of the tattoo. When the artwork was finished, it was nothing like what I wanted and I was really upset that MY MEMORIAL TATTOO IS MESSED UP. It not only doesn't look like what I wanted, but it is very large and I wanted a minimalist tattoo.When I went back to the counter to pay, they told me the tattoo was $385. THAT IS NOWHERE NEAR $200 AS DISCUSSED ON THE CONTRACT AND NO OTHER PRICES WERE DISCUSSED. Not only was the staff at the studio not accommodating, but the managers also had no intention of giving me any good customer service.They were very quick to take my money and denied me a refund after THEY BROKE THEIR OWN CONTRACT. I am now getting my money back through the bank.I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS BUSINESS AGAIN AND DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE TO COME HERE FOR ANY KIND OF SERVICE. I've had more negative piercing stories in my life than positive ones. Most piercers just get you in and out the door as fast as possible. My experience at this place was pretty much ideal. It's first come first serve so you just have to go in when it's slow because you never know when a group of people are gonna show up at the same time. They do charge on the high end of normal but it's what you'd expect for a Bellevue location with exceptional service. It's not a cheap hole in the wall place! And when it comes to body mods, you should never go cheap anyway!So if you're looking at near $100 total for almost any standard piercing. I got an industrial and it went extremely smoothly and the piercer talked me through everything and clearly showed me all my options. They make you feel extremely comfortable here and the piercing room has actual privacy just like a doctors office. This has been the only cartilage piercing I've had that didn't hurt the next day. I've had a few others and they were all really painful and badly done, bled a lot or did not last. But not at this place. I paid around $130 total for the industrial, plus standard titanium jewelry. If you want fancy gemstone jewelry then expect to pay more. They even sterilize it for 10 minutes before piercing you. It's totally legit in every way. It might make you seem like a badass if you go to some cheap grungy place for your piercings or tattoos. But it's not worth the risk.Go here and you won't be disappointed. Read Less

I've gotten several tattoos from Ben, and realized I'm a terrible person and had never left him a review. I got my first tattoo from him when he was working at a different shop, and have followed him ever since. I recently got a tattoo from him at Deep Roots (photo attached). I obviously think highly of Ben. He's friendly, outgoing, great at listening to what you want, and creating a design based on an idea. He also is comfortable referring customers to a different artist if an idea is a style he's not comfortable with. My friend and I have been wanting to get our ears pierced for ages and on St. Patrick's Day 2018, we texted each other in the morning and decided 3/17 is THE day since we had nothing else planned. We went to Deep Roots tattoo as walk-ins. Since it was a Saturday and we didn't call to make appointment, we had to wait for a bit. The wait didn't feel long at all. Avery at the reception is very welcoming and friendly. He explained to us the procedure very clearly and answered all of our questions without being annoyed. He also helped us with choosing the jewelry and matching those of our choice next to our ears very patiently and carefully. Dae is our piercer. He is very professional and is very good at what he does. He went through each step with us thoroughly and he took extra time to explain the after-care procedure with us. The piercers and artists here are actually quite excellent. I love Ben's work and had an appointment. Upon arrival we were greeted by a clueless which is kind in describing such an aloof simpleton who's name is Bobbi. She arrived late to open and when asked why the artist was not present at 20 after Bobbi replied that she needed to reset the computer. Yes, aloof, confused and when we asked to speak to the manager, aloof Bobbi recited Washington law on giving out phone numbers. That's of course not what we asked but when your operating in a world unto yourself like Bobbi she began cleaning the glass counters and stated she was just the scheduler, she had no power to handle anything, never apologized, never refunded our money, however, Bobbi the buffoon passive aggressively could not understand what calling her manager meant to handle the situation. Also, I was very hesitant to choosing the earring, and they gave me suggestions, but were never trying to force me and discussed with me for almost 30mins. Had a great experience here twice getting my nose pierced. The staff is always so friendly and charming. Hex was super helpful while I was being indecisive with my nose stud choices and she never once complained and allowed me to take my time. I ended up taking an hour and changed last minute to a smaller stud but she was patient and amazing. My piercer was also super professional and made me feel calm throughout the whole experience and explained each of the steps carefully. He also sterilized all 3 of my nose stud choices for me in case I wanted to change or try different options once my piercing was done. So sweet!The store has some beautiful jewelry to choose from which is pricey but it is also very high quality and good for your skin. I've bought two nose studs from here ranging from $80-120. Also I would recommend getting the saline spray for $12. It's easy to use and is a huge bottle to keep your piercing clean. The other free option is the iodized salt they give you in a baggie and recommend using it with cold distilled water which also works but requires more work and keeping the water clean so bacteria doesn't spread. I got my first tattoo here. So this was a huge deal for me. I told the artist(David) the concept of my tattoo I had wanted and he seemed more than happy to send me a sketch. The week of my tattoo date I asked him multiple times to send me the concept (this never happened). On the day of my tattoo I showed up and he was not prepared at all. Fortunately David was an amazing artist and made the stencil in a matter of a few minutes. The tattoo was on my left upper thigh is maybe 2-3 inch tattoo tops. David was very respectful and understanding when I told him to stop a few times. He was also very gentle and accurate. I love my tattoo completely. After the tattoo I left to meet my friends for dinner a hour later the cashier called me that night said "I need to sign a bunch of papers/release forms". This worker had the audacity to ask if it was okay for me to print them out or fax them and bring them later in the evening because he might get written up. Of course me being a nice person I told him I'll try to. A hour later he calls again, I am still at dinner... Long story short I just went back, out of my way to basically just sign something. The staff is outstanding, informative, and amazingly sweet. They are thorough in process and care.The whole shop was immaculate and very professional and sterile. Awkward experience-- cashier pitched me lower prices on jewelry which I was ok with paying with at the time. The staff helped me place the jewelry and upon checkout there was a 'change to the system' which coincidentally raised the price 25 dollars. The staff did make an effort to contact their supervisor on the phone to allow a price adjustment to what the front desk clerk pitched. Thank you! I figure I will furthermore shop for jewelry online like I used to because prices are very cheap, shipping is short, and I can count on getting prices I chose to pay. Read Less

Great service! Called before I came in and they covered all of my questions. What I need when I come in, what kinds of piercings they do, prices, when their piercer is in, etc. prices are a little higher than I expected but the quality of the piercing was great. I must be the coolest mom in the world.My youngest kid confided In me one night that she really wanted to get a cartilage piercing in her ear (like her older sister). I didn't freak out. I didn't show any emotion at all. I just listened and nodded and gave a non-committal "we'll see" response, dropping the subject like a hot rock.Later on, I called my eldest kid and asked her where she got her own cartilage piercing (this was a few years ago), and she said she had it done at Deep Roots, here in Bellevue. She added that the staff here were fantastic, that they used totally hygienic procedures and sterilized needles, and that the place was super clean and the folks were really nice. Late one night recently, I left a message for this tattoo and piercing shop via their link on Yelp, asking if we needed to make an appointment. A lady from this shop called and left me a message on my phone the next morning (no appointment needed, they take walk-in's and, yes, there is parking there).So after running a few errands in Bellevue with my youngest kid, I pulled into this strip mall's parking lot and said, essentially, "Surprise! We're getting you your ear cartilage piercing today! Treat's on me!". Needless to say, she was blown away. (She's having a hard year and working so hard, I felt she deserved a nice surprise). We were both very impressed with this shop. It really does look like a jewelry boutique when you walk in. The lady behind the counter, Sasha, was incredibly nice and friendly and patient with us as we asked a ton of questions and went over our options for the piercing earring. I saw a few chairs behind the counter where the tattooing takes place. There was a guy on one getting a tattoo. I liked how it was open and looked very clean. There is another room in the back for privacy, too (this is where my kid went for the ear piercing). A guy named Dei did the actual piercing. He could NOT have been nicer! What a great guy! My kid wasn't nervous at all, but Dei put MY mind at ease (lol!). He seemed very knowledgeable and had a lot of experience and was great with people. The whole procedure took less than a few minutes. My kid came out of the room with the biggest smile. She loved her new piercing! It was a little more expensive than I had anticipated (the tiny earring was $45 and the grand total was $75), but for a good job by experienced people and sterile equipment, I suppose there's no price for that. Plus they throw in some cleaning salts along with the after-care instructions (bonus!).It's now a week later and my kid is still on cloud nine and I am still officially "the cool mom". This review is for David Eckstrom- I've gotten two tattoos from him at this studio and can truly say he's my favorite and most trusted tattoo artist in Seattle. Best portrait artist in Seattle, amazing pointillism skills, a super fun and interesting guy to talk to, and incredibly experienced with tattooing. I love that he doesn't limit himself to one style of tattooing, if you bring him ideas, he'll make it happen! He really makes an effort to get to know his clients and create personalized pieces for them based on exactly what they want- he offers practical advice for the best long term outcomes for the tattoo but always makes sure he's listening to what the client wants and is giving them something that's exactly what they wanted.
