I found Skinhibitions on Yelp, also my friend recommends Mike, one of the tattoo artists there. After a few emails, we met the first time and I showed him the design, the size and where I wanted it. I went back a week later to have my first tattoo done, he made 3 stencil sizes for me to choose. I am so happy with the result. Mike knows that was my first tattoo and he talked me through what are the procedure, he was making sure that I was ok and the after care. After having tried many other tattoo spots across the country, I came upon this down to earth spot. First environment with TVs and pictures of their team in art form was refreshing. Their portfolios of their work at the front for you to preview each artists' work was also - refreshing.  Then, after beginning and choosing the artists Donnie - I was exposed to an artist who cares about his work and it's very expression. After our initial conversation and an appointment to review what he could devise to support my vision - we agreed on a plan and it began. First was a coverup if my very first tattoo. The choice of a scarab was perfect to replace the weathered and aged early form of tattoo. After analyzing and evaluating the best next moves he finished and I was ecstatic! Went here a couple times for a thigh piece. Work is absolutely amazing and was done by Donnie. But for some odd reason I haven’t been able to get in touch with him after paying my tattoo in full $600 and I simply just want to get it finished. Haven’t heard back from him in almost a week. I’ve dealt with inappropriate conversations in the past from him that I won’t be going to detail, and that should have been my red flag to not continue doing business with him and I regret every bit of it cause now I have a huge infisbihed paid in full piece on my thigh that is not finished. Hopefully I find someone will continue the rest of this beautiful piece. And apparently verbal abuse is asking when u can get your tattoo scheulded whatever that means...was never once disrespectful to this guy or his store and work....will never be or recommending anyone here for business. Let me just give you some back ground. I was in the area for the summer from VA Beach. I priced and visited with artists in the area but I got extremely lucky I met with Donnie. I came in with no picture and just an idea in my head for a full sleeve and he has made it into a reality. He has done my entire arm, chest, and back freehand. I've had multiple sessions and we are at around 20 hours now with one session to go. And it is beyond what I could have imaged. I am so blown away by the absolute talent that Donnie possesses. Skinhibitions is a top notch shop! Very clean, nice area, great artist etc! BUT! The real gem is located in the shop, first booth on the right- TMNT theme- say hey to "Uncle" but to y'all he's to Donnie!! Donnie has done all of my tattoos from wayyy back in the day when he was getting started!!! So to see just how he has perfected his craft and still striving to learn more and gain more skills is just amazing! But on to why I'm here..... last Saturday my brother wanted to get his first tattoo - a portrait of his mother- yes his first tattooo a portrait! So we took that drive Woodbridge to get Donnie to be bless him!!I was impressed with the level of professionalism that was shown and one would think it would slack off because we know one another, the level of treatment I received was that of any other person coming in for a tattoo. I got my nose pierced at Skinhibitions several years ago and I have had zero problems. My body doesn't usually take well to piercings, so I was very happy that my nose healed well. I gave them 3 stars because it is impossible to contact them. They have no website and the phone number they listed, goes right to an automated voicemail on a cell phone. I have NO idea how there are so many good reviews on here! Where are these awesome people everyone is talking about? First of all, I called and was told (with an attitude) to just come in so they can see what kind of tattoo I want and figure things out from there. When I walked in, everyone turned and stared for a while like everyone was confused. I didn't know who worked there and who didn't. Finally someone greeted me and when I explained what I wanted done, he told me he doesn't feel comfortable quoting it because he doesn't really do that. Ugggghhh?!?!?!??????? Okaaaaay. So he refers me over to BJ. When I spoke with BJ and STARTED to explain what I wanted along with an idea to fill in some empty spaces on my arm, he started going off about how I needed to have a plan. I tried to tell him that I DID have a plan because he assumed I didn't have any idea what I wanted. He was bothered and basically hushed me to not interrupt him. I'm not gonna go into anymore detail. From this point, I already made the decision NOT to get work done here. Everyone seems like they hate their jobs, they don't LISTEN to the customer, they are artists who don't WANT to offer ideas. The whole environment was negative. I can already see being very upset the whole time if I were to get work done here. NO THANKS! You can haaaaaa dat! And on the other hand, was BJ high? My husband and I both got tattoos from Donnie and he is easily the best artist we've worked with.My husband is in the process of getting a dragon that wraps around his torso from his chest, around his arm, and over half his back. Donnie, after a discussion with my husband on what he wanted, drew it on him freehand. The detail and shading are amazing and he's already gotten tons of compliments on the unfinished product.I gave Donnie elements that I wanted added together for a shoulder piece and he worked them together really well. I got a belly piercing here about a year ago - it was quick and easy. I just had to take a star off because of the atmosphere. I mean I know it's not a 5 star restaurant but I walk in and all these guys are just lounging around and cussing up a storm. That's not very professional.. & I'm not new to tattoo shops because I have ink yall. It was crazy - mostly this one specific dude who was just cussing every other word. I'm going to take you through this step by step. So I walk in on a Monday around 6 o'clock (granted, business is probably slow at that time). I'm here for a belly piercing, and it's a bit more nerve wracking just because they're all lounging around talking about shoes, cussing profusely, etc. It was just weird because rather than a professional staff they all seemed like friends chilling. I just expected more of a professional environment. They had me fill out paperwork, and the guy who had me do it was too lazy to get off the chair to give me the application, instead pointing it out on a wall. Then when I finished it, he was too lazy to get up and get it, and made me walk over to where he was (sitting down) to hand it to him. Then after a few moments of my paperwork and ID being reviewed a nice woman asks me if I'm ready and tells me to sit in the chair.The only reason I gave three stars really is because the piercing part went well and so far, It hasn't even pussed or bled (two days later). The man (maybe they should introduce themselves to make you feel more comfortable) marked my belly, told me to check it in the mirror to see if I liked where it was (that was cool) and then had me lay in the chair. He didn't tell me what kind of jewelry he was going to use. I had to ask, and he said "a standard silver belly bar"... I was looking more for what kind of metal it was, like is it steel? I still don't know. I guess he assumed I wasn't allergic to anything.He pierced it quickly, it hurt obviously but it was easily done it seemed. I checked it in the mirror, paid for it and was about to leave. The guy who wouldn't get off the couch said to make sure that my boyfriend drove in case I got heat flashes or something and they'd be liable (which I think was more a liability thing he cared about than safety). I received no aftercare instructions, and honestly that was pretty messed up. I shouldn't even have to ask for them. I just silently left and decided google was gonna be my friend for the night.So I took off one star for the unprofessional environment and another for no aftercare instructions. If you haven't gone here for tattoos, I don't know why you haven't yet. Everyone there is absolutely amazing with their talent and quality of work. I have gotten 4 tattoos there and planning on getting more. I am rather picky about places that I go to for work and have regretted not coming to this place sooner when I came here 2 years ago. Its like owning an exquisite masterpiece.That's how I feel about the brilliant piece of art Eric Rhea tattooed from my toes around and up my calf. Nothing beats that little happy bubble when someone at the gym, in a store or on the street says "Hey. I love your tattoo" I've even had people ask if the vine and flowers portion are real, a sticker, etc...I was first introduced to Eric's talent through the many tattoos he'd done for my personal trainer at the gym. They were simply stunning and it was clear that he had a talent for realism which was something I was definitely interested in. I'd spent well over a decade thinking about the tattoo I wanted and my trainer said when I was ready to let him know and he'd put me in touch.Every once in awhile I don't do things small. I had one meeting with Eric to discuss my ideas for my tat. My first tat - and not some cute little spot of ink :-) I discussed the meaning of my tat and the elements I'd like to include with him. And then I did the hardest thing an artist can do - I left the artistic details, colors and composition up to someone else. OMG Eric Rhea is the most amazing talented artist. None of this tracing paper stencil crap. He pulled some reference images of various tigers and hummingbirds to look at, then when I came to my first session he just picked up a pen and freehand drew the entire tattoo design on my leg. After sketching things out on the skin, he just started in inking the outlines. What was even more impressive was his typography work. I've been setting type for 20+ years and I wish I had the sick raw talent for creating lettering that Eric has.The tattoo was completed over several sessions. Since this was my first tattoo, Eric was very good at explaining aftercare at my initial consultation so I had everything already on hand at home to keep it clean and make sure it healed right. That attention to clean, safe tattooing was evident all over the workspace - starting with the autoclave for sterilizing things sitting right next to the tattoo chair.I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.
