I hate to give such a low rating for this place. I've been here multiple times and had wonderful experiences but this last one was it for me. I went to set up an appointment Saturday for a tattoo on a Tuesday. The artist they had available was watching TV when we arrived and returned back to the couch when we finished working out the details. Come Tuesday, I show up for my appointment and the artist isn't even there yet even though it was a 1:30p appt and his schedule was from 11-10?! I waited about 30 minutes before they reached out to the guy and he said he wasn't supposed to be in until 5:30. He was supposed to be "on the way" but after being there over an hour past my time I requested my deposit back and left. The artist later tried to reach out and apologize and said "he made the booking when he was busy and just agreed to whenever was open". Other then this situation is highly recommend going just please don't get paired with Pudge. He was highly unprofessional and needs to learn better time management skills. Read Less

Not too happy with the work and if I could go back in time, I would go somewhere else that is not a production line. I thought the girl I talked to was doing the work but come to find out, NO. She isn't even a tattoo artist. After explaining exactly what I wanted, I got stuck with some dude that even said he wasn't too good at thin line writing. This is by far the best tattoo shop I have ever been to. I had called earlier in the day as to what their shop minimum was and their availability for the evening. As soon as I got off work I came down and was talking with my artist, Mark, within minutes. He took a picture of my sister's handwriting and placed it beautifully on my wrist. Mark is such a down to earth and just overall awesome person. He was very honest with me and helped bring my vision to life. He was very precise, thorough, and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. For such a new artist, he was very light handed and it didn't hurt as bad as my other wrist tattoo did. Furthermore, the other staff I interacted with were very friendly and professional. When a business starts to believe their own hype, the unfortunate bi-product results in unfounded arrogance. The artist and staff are there to provide a service to the paying customer. Not the customer paying to sit around a full half hour after the scheduled appointment. I left work early using vacation hours in order to make the appointment and I was treated like I was in the wrong. When I asked for my refund, there was no offer of an apology. Apparently they make plenty from the visiting tourists and do not need my "local" money. If I wanted to waste my time AND money, I would have just waited in a Dr's office. Read Less

Really easy to work with, very professional. The location is pretty well thought out, by a lot of landmarks. The place is very clean out front, can't say much about the back because I haven't gotten my tattoo yet. I showed them the style of tattoo I wanted, and asked who they would recommend, and they showed me the artwork of who they chose, and it's exactly what I was hoping for. Called and talk to Johnny about needing a replacement nose piercing because I lost mine. When I came in he helped me pick the right nose ring and changed it for me. Johnny was very knowledgeable and professional the shop is very clean and cool looking. Great tattoo shop.  Went in this morning to ask about having a tattoo done.  Took my name and number and said if someone canceled their appointment they would call.  Called me later today to come in.  Mark, did an outstanding job drawing the tat I wanted.  Explained the procedures and kept checking that I was okay while working on doing the tattoo.  I highly recommend this business for great work!  Exactly what I wanted and it came out AWESOME!  I'm tickled pink with my tattoo. Walked in an hour before closing with three people wanted to get a small, simple tattoo. Obviously it's impossible with the time frame, but the artists was super understanding and very accommodating. He came in on his day off and everything to get us all done the next day! We all got small bombs and the circle wasn't lopsided or slightly oval, the shading was phenomenal and the small details were readable. Overall we're all very pleased with them. But Stacey, the manager, was super friendly and took the time to check out his piece and asked her staff what they could do for him. We came back the next morning and Pudge the Tattooer started the drawing for us. While we waited the lobby was clean, cozy and comfortable. They even directed us to a little breakfast spot in the same plaza to grab a bite to eat. As soon as we saw the stencil we knew it was DEFINITELY worth the wait. Pudge paid amazing attention to the details. Crisp, solid lines and a dope concept based off the original drawing - it completely covered the other one. Absolutely in love with this place. From the staff to the decor it is top notch. My sister and i did not have appointments and we walked in, let them know what we each wanted and were in and out in about an hour. Granted we werent getting large pieces and it was pretty basic, but to be able to walk in, get something drawn up, tattooed, and pay in about an hour was great. The artist name was Dan McDowell and he was amazing. Super professional, organized and light handed. Had an amazing experience at this shop. They were able to take me in and give me the tattoo I wanted, the exact way I wanted it. Vagabond Jay did my tat and I couldn't be any more happier about it. Jay completed my sleeve. I traveled from another state just to get my work done. Vagabond took his time and had the cleanest line work that I have ever seen. His personality is inviting. His work is impeccable, and i would travel anytime just to get his work. Jay was incredible. Went in very last minute and asked for a foot tattoo, his sketch was beautiful and the fine lines came out perfectly. I was so impressed I went in for a second one 2 days later and it was just as beautiful as the first. The lines are clean and crisp and the healing is going great! I'm almost 60 years old and had an ugly scar on my right upper arm and shoulder area from emergency surgery 2 years ago. I had made up my mind I wanted it covered. I had a consultation with Jay, one of the artists there. I explained what I wanted and was back for the tattoo two days later. I could not be more pleased! Stopped in for little anniversary tattoos because red 5 was closed. We wanted finger tattoos. We both have ink & knew we might catch some flack but went ahead with it. The artist was a total a-hole... uninterested & acted like we were beneath him. He specifically stated "this is a horrible idea". We get it. It's not "worth" your time, they'll fade... we FULLY understand. $100 later I got an anniversary tattoo & we learned Whiskey River is a lame tattoo joint!Update: Stacy called & apologized about the way we were treated & our experience. I have so many good things to say about the Whiskey River Tattoo Shop. When I first walked up to the shop the beautiful Stacey and her fiance John were standing out front and they greeted my husband and I with smiling faces. I immediately felt welcomed. When it came to talking about the tattoo I wanted John, Stacey and Savannah were all very  knowledgeable and professional and they answered all of my questions. In a short time speaking with them I knew that the Whiskey River Tattoo Shop was the perfect place for me to get my tattoo. I quickly booked an appointment for my first session and I couldn't be more excited!!!! I also couldn't resist the temptation of getting a piercing..or two while i was there lol Stacey did such an incredible job on my piercings! And both her and Savannah made sure I felt comfortable and relaxed during the whole process. it pains me to right this review but it was unfortunately my experience. After many review and recommendations my girlfriend and I decided to go here to get similar outdoor themed half selves. (side note she had a great experience, artist and tattoo). We went in and everyone was friendly, nice clean place. Explained what tattoos we wanted and were on a slight time restriction, about 3 months left in the area. We were ensured that this would not be a problem. I was matched up ...with the owner of the shop to do my tattoo. He drew a a rough free hand example and we discussed what details I wanted. Same with my GF artist. The owner told me he didn't do appointments until the drawing was completed approx 2 weeks and he would contact me, no problem in my book. My GF left with an appointment preset. Fast forward about 3 weeks later, I called to check the progress because I had not heard from the owner. I was told that my name and number were taken down and he would call me back the next day. I was never contacted. The next week I went in with my GF to her appointment for her outline to be completed. The owner was there but did not approach me until her outline was nearly completed. He asked if I was still wanting that tattoo, obviously I said yes, told me to give him just a minute and he had my drawing. A few moments later he came back and presented me with another very rough sketch, done free hand in red pen. I was upset but discussed with him my likes and possible changes to be made. He then told me he would send me a finished, real outline in less than 48 hours. Nearly 7 additional days passed, no picture was sent but they called to set up an appointment. At this time I would be leaving in 2 weeks, was told it would be at least 2 sessions and would require a 3-4 week healing time. Obviously the time was not enough. So after much frustration, poor communication, and just overall lack of professionalism I cancelled my appointment. My GF did go back and finished her and it turned out great. The only good thing that came out of my experience was that if a tattoo artist shows little to no interest in doing your piece and overall putting off bad vibes it's probably best to move one. They did refund me my 100$ deposit. My advice: if the owner is your artist do not leave without an appoint, be sure you get a copy of your outline before showing up, and make sure he doesn't forget about you, if you use him at all. I like my tattoo, but feel I was overcharged, so just make sure you asked before you get inked, my friend got charged 125.00 an hour I had a tattoo done in 50 minutes and not much detail 210.00. No mention of price till they were done. They were nice and clean place, but hearing prices from others and mine I won't be going back. Read Less

Best tattoo shop I've ever been to. All of the artists as well as Stacey are very down to earth and super accommodating. Within seconds of walking into the shop you're asked if you would like something to drink. The shop is very clean and the waiting area is very comfortable. I had such a wonderful experience here and highly recommend the shop and especially my artist, John T.  I had been searching for the *just right* place (because hey, this is a big deal...and permanent!) and hadn't found it via word of mouth.  I searched this app and found Whiskey River. Not only did all of the work look amazing and clean, but everybody was happy with their experience as well.  I sent an appointment request and the next day I received a call from Stacey to set up a consultation.  She was so sweet and kind!  The next day when we came in, I felt super welcome by her and the others working in the shop.  From there we talked to John T. He was a great listener and gave good advice on a couple different ideas.   Tonight I finally came in with my cousin to get our matching sparrow tattoos and we really had the best experience.  Everything was super clean and sanitary, and John did a super fantastic job on the tattoo itself.  It was a pretty simple tattoo, but everything about it is precise and perfectly done. This place is amazing!!!! Awesome comfortable waiting area and hilarious super friendly artist. We had Julian as our artist and he was phenomenal.. he was focused, gentle, fast, and precise. I love my tattoo more than I even expected. My boyfriend and I came in on a random adventure and we were immediately greeted by a super rad dude at the front desk. We told him what we were looking to get and he helped us find the perfect images and sizes. They immediately set us up with a time that day even though we were last minute walk ins. The pricing was excellent!!!! They even offered us water while we wanted for our artist to set up.. Went in for some consultations and was immediately greeted by the kind receptionist and asked if I wanted something to drink. While looking at profiles we overheard one of the artists telling a client he'd touch up her tattoo for free for life. My boyfriend recently got some work some here my Julian and it looks AMAZING. I stumbled upon this tattoo shop on Sunday while I was out getting lunch. When I went inside, I was immediately greated by Stacey the resident piercer. She was great, btw. After discussing what I was looking for, she advised me to come back the next day because there was only 1 tattooer working and he was slammed. So I came back on Monday and sat down with A.J., the owner of the shop. This shop is great all around. Very clean and very talented artists. I did spend about 6 hours there but I didn't have an appointment so I was ok with that. Stacey and the other shop girl (sorry, can't remember her name) were awesome and made my wait fun. My boyfriend and I came into the shop around 1ish on father's day. We were warmly welcomed by the girl behind the country her and a guest tattoo artist (Mike) who usually works at AJ's other shop, the Norfolk ink gallery. This place is super new, so they don't have a lot of artists working there yet but the shop itself is beautiful and large. So I can imagine how busy its going to be once they get new artists in there. I'm glad we came when we did! But we told them what we were looking for (my boyfriend wanted something on his knee and I wanted an arrow) and they got to work right away with paperwork and drawing it up. Mike did a fantastic job and throughout the little bit of wait time we had while he was setting up or cleaning up, the girl at the front desk engaged in comfortable conversation and had us laughing the whole time!
