(Update below 2/17)This is just part 1 of my review.  I'm all scheduled to go on Saturday!  So, I will update my experience soon...but hey, 5 stars up front?  Let me tell you why...My friend and I have been doing some traveling around the city from tattoo shop to tattoo shop, searching for a place that was just right.  We needed to take everything into consideration including the right vibe, a personable and honest staff, cleanliness, recommendations, good first impressions, prices, and more.  Red 5 pretty much fit the bill.When I walked in, the place had a really good vibe to it.  The studio was spacious and modern.  There was a good amount of people waiting, and it was a Wednesday night!  We were greeted right away and the receptionist was knowledgeable and funny.  She made a great recommendation for an artist, Anna, and after checking out her portfolio, I knew she was who I was looking for!  Luckily, she was there.  She shared her thoughts and ideas about my design and made me feel very confident about what it would look like after she put her spin on it.  She was very personable as well.  It was seriously meant to be because I wanted to go in this weekend and a client had just cancelled, so she had an open spot!I am so excited for my session on Saturday! I'll be back for part 2 of my review...Okay, PART 2! I came back to Red 5 a week later for a coverup, and I am still in the 5 star range.  YES, that's right....I went back twice since my first review last week! I booked Anna because what can I say, she gets me and her art is amazing.So, about last time....everything that you would want to go  right, went smoothly.  My friend and I were greeted at the door and we started right away.  I was worried about the design, because I knew Anna would have to redraw it to make it work.  We had to make a tiny adjustment, but her ideas made loving it more easy.  My friend got her first tattoo and had a great experience as well.  Anna was super friendly and informative/comforting towards us.  I definitely felt at home there.  That's why I came back for my cover up!!!  Again, Anna worked with me in placement and design ideas.  She wanted to be sure it was just right and that I'd love it.  I trusted her, even if we needed to free draw parts of it.  So, final verdict - the QUALITY and PASSION that you see at this studio is unparalled!  The door was continuously revolving with clients booking appointments!  I would recommend this business to everyone looking to get a tattoo, old or new! Red 5 is the place to go to get your Tattoo! Brett Spickard does an amazing and outstanding job! I have never had anyone take the time and care to make sure that the Tattoo you are getting is perfect! He is truly an amazing artist! My tattoo is perfect in every way! Seriously, I've never been more excited about a tattoo than I am with this one! Even after hour four of my tattoo he was very understanding when I started to get a little sore. I highly recommend getting tattooed by him and booking an appointment ASAP as he is booking out until next year. Forever my go to guy for tattoos, so Rob, don't you move back to the west coast anytime soon! I'm coming for that coverup once I can! Also... I need to mention something that has been bothering me today (and when I had a consultation in may) about the counter girl... she's kind of rude. If you want TRULY AMAZING and quality tattoos, and don't mind waiting months for an appointment, come here!! Omg, Red 5 is amazing!If you're in Hampton Roads and into tattoos, I'm sure you've heard the names Carl Fuchs and Chris Garcia. Well, they've joined forces and this place belongs to them! The shop is located in the shopping center near Wendy's and Red Lobster, near Lynnhaven Mall. As soon as you walk inside, it's just like, whoa. Very cool vibe! Nice grey and shiny wooden floors, cool colored walls, but accented with a bright Oriental rug and classic/vintage-like leather furniture in the waiting area. Cool tattoo-like picture of Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and lots of new age type tattoo art. The girls working up front were nice too; I ended up chatting a bit with one of them. The bathroom is nice, clean, and well stocked too (cleaning supplies,  extra soap, just very well maintained.)It was my fiancé who got a tattoo, and luckily there was a cancellation and opening for him to get work done by Chris Garcia (he has 17k Instagram followers, and I'm sure it'll only get higher!) I had a small piece done by him, years, years and YEARS ago, still vibrant!  Duane D. saw the posted opening on Facebook and contacted Red 5 immediately, put a deposit down to secure the appt. He went in for a consultation and gave his ideas. The following week, he was emailed a sketch and that alone was already beautiful. Clean work space and especially "clean" work! But then, I was able to witness the actual tattooing part. Amaaaayyyzzzzzzing. To see it go from sketch to stencil, to outline, to the shadowing, and color, O M G. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, IT DID! (See all pics I've posted.) You just know this guy is good - check his online portfolio and his Instagram account @chrisgarciastattoos .  He's a very nice and soft spoken dude, with major talent. So the price of the tatts are up to the artist of course. When and if you pay with credit, there is an extra fee, so I would just bring lots of cash. But there is also an ATM there if you don't. They are very thorough with instructions for the aftercare, and even sell "Redemption" balm/ointment. If I ever decide to get ANOTHER one myself, I would definitely come here. As of 6/27/2017, Chris and Carl's appointments are booked up until December & January, respectively. Insane, right?! But it just shows how in demand they are, and with the quality of their work, you'll see why. Great things are ALWAYS worth the wait. But if you follow them on Facebook, you may get lucky and catch a cancellation-opening, and might not have to wait TOO long! There are a total of 6 artists at this shop, and you won't have to wait as long with some of them. Just check with the front desk. She said they are definitely appointment based and not walk-in. P.S. Chris has done numerous tattoos on celebrities, esp when he was based in Vegas. Five on Miley Cyrus and so many others. And if you check out his part of the studio - you'll see a giant signed picture of Manny Pacquaio and some Hip Hop memorabilia, even some Voltron toys. Love it! Read Less

My fiancé got his tat from Chris shortly after they opened up their shop. When I saw the work that was done especially his linework, I was highly impresssed. So I got my first tat of my daughter's name by Chris Garcia back In August and got some more work done yesteeday (March 2017). Not only do they have the best artists in town, their parlor is clean with a nice ambience and decor. The staff are all professional, down-to-earth people who caters to the Hampton Roads area. Just had my 5th 5 hour session with Chris Garcia. I had a tribal arm band from 22 years ago back when they were in, lol. He did a cover up and the full sleeve will be done in 2 weeks at my 6th and final session. Chris is simply amazing. I gave him my ideas and he created a master pieces that Picasso would be proud of. The whole studio is wonderful and all the artists in there are at the top of their game as well as the ladies up front are very nice . It's a first class studio I highly recommend ! Read Less
