Great quality tattoos and a great shop! The shop is very clean and comfortable! They have some flash on the walls and a lot of personal art that the artists have drawn! There are also sketchbooks and iPads for you to look at!The artists wil work with each other to match you up with the artist who suits your style. The artists are all very friendly and extremely knowledgeable.Lani Holland is the artist I a tattoo with and she is outstanding! Her work is very clean and unique! She hand drew out a fantastic design and was so much more then I ever expected! She has a very gentle touch with the ink gun and is very careful! Logan Shermeyer is extremely talented and very nice! My wife and I where in town for the weekend and we stoped into Folk City first to see if we could get put on the schedule to get some flash. Logan was available for the next day and we picked some pieces from his amazing looking flash to get. We showed up for our appointment right when they opened in the morning and got at it right away. After knocking out my two hour tattoo we took a break for lunch and came back to get my wife's one hour tattoo done. When he finished he proudly showed off our tattoos to all of his piers and made us proud to have his art on us. He was such a great guy in conversation and professionally as a tattoo artist. We walked into Folk City as strangers to the area and to the shop but when we left we felt like friends of Logan and loyal customers to the shop. He went so far above and beyond putting detail and pure skill into our pieces that we decided we will be making special trips to Va Beach just to get work from Logan. I was extremely unhappy with my experience here. The first issue came with the artist's disinterested attitude and the fact that my wife and I had to wait 30 minutes past our appointment time to be brought back, with no other customers there. The artist's technique was sloppy and she couldn't do straight lines. The biggest issue for me however was, when we scheduled our appointment, we were told it'd be $100 for two small nickel sized tattoos together. I made sure to specify it wasn't $100 each, but $100 for both. When the artist finished both our tattoos, she then told us we owed another $100 on top of the $100 we'd already paid. I understand shop minimums or price per hour, but to charge $200 for 45 minutes of work, (including the clean up and set up, the actual tats were only about 15 minutes each), for two tattoos smaller than a nickel consisting of only a few straight lines? That's ridiculous. So I've spent $200 on tattoos I'm going to have to get touched up by an artist that can do straight lines. DON'T GO HERE. Read Less

My husbands sister came to visit us last summer and decided she wanted a tattoo. She's young so I looked up reputable tattoo shops. she wanted the Texas state outline between her inner ankle and achilles heel. It was her last night here so she had to get it done that night.Suffolk didn't have any artists available, but they were so nice and called their Hampton location to see if they had anything, they did! When we got there the staff was awesome! My sister-in-law is young and was nervous. But the girl who met is put her at ease. She introduced the artists( god i'm so sorry I don't remember his name!!) he was so nice!! She wanted me to come back with her and he had no problem with an audience. He talked to us the whole time! After he was done she decided she wanted a dot for where she was born in Texas( Yeah she's young and didn't think of this before hand) It was a small ass town so the 3 of use( her, me AND the artist) spent quite some time on our phones finding the EXACT spot to put the dot. It was such a small dot (like tiny! One tiny touch of the needle and that's all it was. So if you know, tattoos this wasn't easy!)After we found where the dot should go, the artists was determined to get it right!! Once she realized how difficult it was, she said "it's ok i don't need it". But the artists was DETERMINED! And damn! He got it perfect! During this visit my husband decided to get a tattoo as well. When I decided to finally get a tattoo, I went around to quite a few locations to try and find "That Art Style" that I wanted.  After about 20 portfolios I ended up at Folk City with Mike Cann.  I loved the cartoony style, the shading was amazing, this was it.  The whole service was professional.  Consult, with a reasonable deposit.  Art review on a tablet, with a conversion to paper quickly after that.  And we were off!  The process took about 4 hours, with a short break in the middle (of course your times will vary, der).  The facility was clean, staff was friendly, there was no concern that something might not be "Right" when I walked in there.  Prices were also on point with my expectations.  Remember, don't go cheap on ink!Would absolutely come back here, and reccomend it. My husband and my cousins had an awesome time getting new ink last night. Kevin and Mike were so down to earth and funny, that it felt like we'd already known them, rather than having just met. They explained everything clearly and took time with each of us explaining how certain things would look, and they helped us find the best sizing to make the art look best. They even put their own flare and design on the ideas we brought to the table.
