My wife and I made an appointment to see Andrew and Amanda to get our first tattoos ever. The experience was amazing. Andrew took care of me and Amanda took care of my wife. Both were amazingly friendly and professional, walking us through the process, answering our questions, and making us feel at ease. Not to mention their work was more than excellent! Lakeside Tattoo is completely epic, I wandered in one night not long after they opened and I've been going here ever since. The atomosphere is very relaxing and chill. The artists are all incredible and very laid-back, each one offering a style a little different or with their own twist. They're more than reasonable with the prices, and willing to work with you if you're interested in larger or multiple pieces. I highly recommend checking them out if you're interested in new ink. Went for Friday the 13th and I was amazed on what a great place this is. Even with all the chaos everyone was super nice. I didn't get my tattoo until after 10pm which meant they were tattooing for over 12 hours and everyone was so nice still! Matt was great. It was my first tattoo. This place is great!!! My daughter and I were in town and wanted to get matching tattoos. There were so many tattoo shops and we didn't know where to go. My gps said that Lakeside was only 2 minutes away so I thought we would give it a try and boy am I glad we did!!! They are so nice and down to earth here. Also very helpful. I went here the other day for my very first tattoo. Richard was my artist. I was nervous and had him redo the stencil for my tattoo like 3 times but he never made me feel bad about it. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming, while also hard at work. Oh, did I mention Richard did a sweeeeet a** job on my tatt?! He managed to get a line of text around my ribs to be straight and the finished text was perfectly done. No shaky hands here. Got my tattoo done by Andrew Slater and am beyond happy with the service. Tattoo shops with friendly people and staff are (for some reason) hard to come by and the person I spoke to while booking my appointment was beyond helpful and informative. Andrew did a fantastic job with the design and gave me a lot of input for the final piece. He was very accommodating and gave me some great aftercare instructions. While shopping around I had a few questions that could be answered over the phone. I called a few places...Then I came across lakeside. Called them,Adam answered the phone. By far the most respectful,knowledgeable,professional I've talked to over the phone period. The very next day due to his vibe I was more pumped to check out the place. Matt was there. After talking with him. I just had to get my tattoo done THEN! WITH OUT A WAIT Matt got straight to work drawing/sizing up/...customizing my tattoo.Matt even explained different shading techniques I had as options. He was on point with his estimated timing and pricing. Matt walked me through the whole process. Example:warning me about which areas were more sensitive and when we were about to start that part (arm/wrist tattoo). Making sure I felt comfortable etc. Best part was with Matt's skills,my tattoos ended up looking better than I expected (the pic I brought in). Definitely a hidden treasure in Lakeside! Everyone at Lakeside Tattoo (everyone I met at least) made me feel very comfortable. I went in there a few days before my tattoo was done to check out portfolios and talk to some artists, as I had never gotten a tattoo before. They all seemed knowledgeable and down to earth, and they helped me figure out a sick and meaningful design! The artist walked me through the entire process. When I finally came in Saturday to get it done, I wasn't nervous at all, and I give the artist, Matt, full credit for that! Also, I did my research, and the prices there seemed very fair and reasonable (one might even say, LOW! Haha). Amanda Slater is great! Go follow her on instagram, see how tight her work is, and you'll want to get tattooed. Virtually every tattoo I've gotten over the past 12 years has been from one person, but that person moved. I fret over changing barbers, so you can imagine I'm not too comfortable having someone new tattoo me. However, after following Amanda on instagram for a while, I really liked her work, so I set an appointment up about possibly getting something covered up. She explained what I wanted wouldn't work well as a cover-up and it made perfect sense. Thankfully, I decided to get it elsewhere anyway, because I love it. Over two sessions, my leg took just over twelve hours, but she is incredibly friendly and the time flew by. She charges very reasonable prices and most importantly, I'm extremely happy with my tattoo. I plan to return soon. Read Less

-This is how Amanda slater speaks to her customers. -I explained I would pay for a smaller a tattooNever mentioned or apologized that she arrived late to the appointment-never mentions that we had to wait over an hour so she can draw up a new tattoo because she doesn't open emails. The emails she requested ... to give her an idea of what flower style I wanted.-oh and I'm not a single mom so I have no idea what she's talking about. I did nothing but compliment her... I simply stated that the pink was bright and said "I f'd her up and that Normally when that happens her clients don't like it from then on." She put words in my mouth. She also went over immediately with white paint when I asked her to stop and let's just calm down. She immediate started going over it. Which  ended up overworking it. She didn't explain any of this. So when I emailed her the next week of it healing I didn't hear back till a month later. She does great work, but I clearly offended her. She sent me this nasty insulting email. Top notch experience. I went to Amanda for my tattoo. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted and once I found her Instagram I knew I had to get with her to draw something up. The process was a breeze and she was super cool the whole time (I was a little intimidated because this was just my second tattoo and my first experience at another shop wasn't the best). Her final drawing of my tattoo surpassed all expectations. The shop itself is spotless and just has a good vibe all around. The other artists were all as welcoming as Amanda was and during my tattoo and we all had good conversations throughout my time there. I'm well aware that Richmond is completely full of tattoo spots but in my opinion Lakeside is the best up and coming shop in the city and is the next premiere shop. I've been getting work from Andrew, one of the owners since before he opened the shop, and although his work has always been on point it's drastically improved since Lakeside opened. He's one of the best in the city in my opinion. His sister Amanda, the other owner, is also an awesome tattooer. Andrew has also brought on Rempe who is a great tattooer with a unique style.
