This place is AMAZING! My sisters and I decided on a whim to get matching tattoos after a lost in our family. We called and asked about their shop base price and hours of operation. With nothing but a simple Pinterest picture and an idea John was able to print out our stencils and get us with TWO AMAZING artist! My older sister and I were extremely nervous as we WERE tattoo virgins. John and the artists were very pleasant, patient and accommodating. They did a test line to prepare us and the rest was history! Their great conversation and humor had me forget about the pain (which was minimal) and we were done in under 20 mins. We were visiting relatives and my daughter wanted to get matching tattoos. Nothing crazy, just a small heart. It was a Sunday and we didn't have an appointment but they were very accommodating and squeezed us in. Everyone there was extremely nice and professional. Great people great service. Send them pic of what exactly it is u want n they give u a rough estimate meaning have about $200 extra from what price they give u just to be on safe side. As tattoo may take longer costing more. But I loved it n I still tipped a lot :) if u only tip $20... U should really learn to save up for a tattoo. They work with you and it's best to set up an appointment if they aren't too booked they'll take u as a walk in but do not complain if u are waiting a awhile. Top notch service! Went as a walk in and staff was extremely polite and helpful. Discussed fine details of what I wanted and where, with plenty of discussion to eliminate any vague details. Updated review: Shannon did an incredible, beyond-words-amazing job with my mermaid tattoo and I seriously don't think she's fully aware of how talented she really is. Shannon Stoner has tattooed me a handful of times and I never leave disappointed. I had a bad experience with another artist from another shop, and she fixed a couple pieces for me. She's the sweetest. Any time I make an appointment, j write her the longest and most tedious emails I can only imagine how annoying that is, but she never ever once made me feel like I was bothering her. Love this studio. I spent 4 sessions at about 4 hours each with Joe Weber, doing my half sleeve. When I initially walked in (because of 2 amazing full-sleeves I saw of his) we discussed the things I wanted in the tattoo and what he gave me was better than I even pictured. The details and accuracy of the sea creatures I wanted was beautiful. I really could go on and on about it, but I'll just say I personally won't go anywhere else. The shop as a whole was very friendly. Being there multiple hours, you meet other artists and they all seem cool. Even when after one of my sessions, I had a bad breakout from too much ointment (oops) I called the shop a couple times, and whoever answered the phone really eased my worries and didn't dismiss me. Joe and Shannon are both awesome here. Joe is great with realistic stuff (but also other styles), and Shannon is so good with traditional style tattoos. Joe did a half sleeve for me that took several sessions, and I love it. Shannon did a tattoo of my dog, and it is perfect. She also did another, pretty involved tattoo for me that is wonderful. Brandon did a small, simple fly tattoo, and it turned out much cooler than what I was imagining. People frequently compliment these tattoos and want to know whee I got them. He was so rude!! People like to go with friends to get tattoos and piercings and I've never had a problem with my friend and I getting piercings done together until I came here. I was seriously dumbfounded and then he proceeds to say he breaks this rule all the time but today was not one of those times.  horrible service over all. Go somewhere else if I were you. Went in to get some prices on a few things I was considering. I was treated as though I was stupid and although I have hidden tattoos it seems as though they thought I knew nothing about tattoos. I kept asking questions even though the two employees were very disinterested in helping. Then I was rudely asked if I even knew what one of the ideas I wanted was. I'm not some ditzy girl I don't get permanent things put on my body without meaning or without thought...although the piercing I got from here a few years back is nice, I will never spend another dollar at this place. Any professional tattoo artist I've met anywhere else, that actually liked their job,tried to make the customer feel comfortable and acts interested in doing the piece. They are the complete opposite. If you want to be treated like dirt and be expected to pay a large amount of money for what you want, that's the only reason you'd go here! Read Less

I came here to get my daith pierced, to hopefully help with headaches. I was super nervous because my lobes won't take piercings, but I have my navel pierced and it healed fine. Going in, the place was very clean and welcoming. I explained to Chris my concerns with piercings and he did a phenomenal job explaining everything to me, and told me he's never had someone have a reaction to this piercing. He showed me the different size hoops they offered, let my husband come back with me when normally they only take one person back at a time, and was very sterile about everything. Alright so I didn't actually end up getting any work done but I was not pleased with my visit over here. About a year and a half ago I had a medium sized tattoo done that was very significant for me on my left side. However at the time, I wasn't completely sure how far I wanted it extended (it had a trail of various silhouettes of birds). Over the last year and a half I decided I wanted to extend it to the original length it was drawn to be by my original tattoo artist. So I called up Ocean Mystique and briefly explained it. I went in there and firstly I wasn't keen that I had to lift my shirt up publicly in front of all the employees in order to describe it. Take me into the back and look at it. Secondly, Keith, the tattoo artist (looks like Seth Rogan with glasses and tats) didn't even look at it while drawing out the stencil. I wasn't completely convinced but I agreed to let him stencil it on me. Another odd thing, they charged me beforehand which I have always been accustomed to paying afterwards i.e. piercings and tattoos. We agreed on a price which I personally thought was too high for what was needed but then he put the stencil on and it was very far off from what I wanted. So he semi washed off the stencil and hand drew on the silhouettes. First of all, they looked very poorly drawn. Each one of my birds is unique and different looking and he only drew two variations of birds without taking any care as to the "flow" of my current tattoo. The birds he drew lacked detail and proper size proportion. It was clearly not handled with care, just a five minute sketch job. So I asked for a refund and won't be returning. I'll wait till I go back to NY to my original tattoo artist or my husband's friend to complete it- someone that spends more than five minutes drawing it. Read Less

Got my nose pierced here in February and it's still healthy. The lady who did it was extremely nice and did it quickly and professionally. It hurt when they did it (obviously) and was a tiny bit sore that day, but ever since then my nose has felt normal. It took also no time to heal. Really good, clean piercing place. Read Less

I came in here with my husband to get matching Harry Potter tattoos. These guys are very friendly and professional. They didn't even make fun of us for getting nerdy tats. The shop is clean and well decorated. They've got a great waiting area set up with couches, and a few vending machines. We go ink from Randy and I was with a friend when she came in to see Amanda. I wanted a tattoo for my bday, and the first guy I went to was a brilliant artist but was jus a lil slow, 2hrs and all I had was a stencil on me. So I ventured over to ocean mystique, now the guy at the front desk quoted me an astronomical price for what I wanted, and when I told him I just left a guy who was going to do it for a quarter of the price, he bluntly said " this ain't no garage shit". So I haggled a bit and got the price down. Now comes in ocean mystique's tattoo artist Randy stout, who was eager to work on me and I was excited. Zip zam boom, the tatt is done, looked awesome until it started to heal and I used the ointment Mr. Stout recommends. I get the most gnarly break out on my back with the tattoo, so I go confront Mr. Stout about it and he nonchalantly says "oh its jus a break out reaction, I see it all the time. I cant do nothing about it" now I'm in shambles, my once awesome tattoo looks and healed like shit. And if he has seen this before why would he keep recommending this ointment to people. Moral of the story, I should have stayed with the first dude who would have gave me a way better tatt for less and I wouldn't broken out. Ill never go to another tattoo shop for a tattoo, let alone go to fucking ocean mystique. EVVVEEERRRRR!!!!! And p.s. I got my very first tattoo here a few days ago and my experience was great! Never having even stepped foot in a tattoo shop, I had no clue what to expect. Spent a few minutes looking at the portfolios along the wall until my nerves calmed enough to approach the front desk man. I gave him a little description of what I want and where on my body and he told me he'd have the next artist available come out and assist me as I completed some necessary paperwork.A few minutes later, my artist, Vincent, arrives and we discuss design, placement, size, and pricing. Being my first tattoo experience, I did not haggle with the price of $170. Only a few minutes after that he leads me into the tattooing area and gets to work. Very professional, comforting, and understanding staff. Vincent made sure to show me the brand new needles he works with and all the equipment and sterilization procedures that go into the process. He also explained the certifications and licenses that the establishment and staff must receive to work in VA.Thankfully pictures were allowed during the process to preserve the memory, but if you'd like to video record that process, you'll have to find a place out of VA!My tattoo took an hour due to the multiple colors (picture coming soon when the healing process is finished) and Vincent made sure to guide me through the process as he worked on the different parts.All in all, this is a great shop with a friendly staff, and clean, quality equipment. He made the whole experience so much better and the pricing want bad either. It was about the same as what I paid for my other ones.
