Overall good experience. The shop is well appointed, clean, with a comfortable waiting area. I do wish I would have held my ground on the size of the piece or found a shop/artist that could do the piece a lot smaller. That is on me not the artist though. Lucy tried to make conversation and I probably came off as rude, for that I apologize. Tattoos are very private and personal to me. Despite it being larger that I wanted I still love it and am happy with it. A friend was getting their first tattoo from Eric (?)at the same time. They asked for the piece to be about 2" long and when the print out was presented to us it was closer to 3.5. When they asked what size the print out was Eric answered in a snarky tone, that he didn't know, he had not measured it. My friend held their ground and made sure the size was what was wanted despite the comments and negativity about the possible loss of detail from the artist. Again, happy with the end result. While we appreciate an honest assessment of how the final piece may be different from the reference art, the tone and manner from the artist could use an adjustment. I would go to Lucy again. My friend agreed they would be willing to have work done by her but would not use Eric again. Again, the loss of one star is for the attitude from Eric. Read Less

Went into the shop a few times over three weeks. Talked with the shop manager and the Male tattoo artist. He quoted me a price and told me I didn't need to schedule an appointment or anything. Second time, I went in and talked to the manager to make sure an appt didn't have to be scheduled. Verbalized my intent on returning later that week. The third time, I came in to finally get tattooed, artist said i had to have an appointment. He tried to offer me other appointment times, which didn't work seeing that I had two jobs. He later used that fact to sarcastically insult me to his coworker "she apparently works seven days a week so she can't come back on this day!" I had to come back the next day, I saw Lucy. She did a phenomenal job. I'm happy I was able to get it done by her and not Eric, he was unprofessional. Never apologized for being rude or, giving me the run around. Lucy made it worth the wait, very knowledgeable, kept my mind off the pain by talking to me the whole time. Definitely come here for your tattoo work, another one of their artists did some work for me. They always do a great job, just make sure you get all the info first.. in WRITING apparently.... Awesome place! My friend and I had a spur of the moment decision to get tattoos and looked places up on Google. We wanted a good shop for our first tattoos. This place was nearby and had great reviews, so we called to inquire about pricing and time (closes at 8pm, we called around 5pm). Fantastic price for quality, service, cleanliness, and a Newport News tattoo parlor. Our artist was friendly, as well as all the other staff present and it was very welcoming. I read the great reviews about ACT on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I walked in with examples of what I wanted done (a hummingbird and cosmos flower on my forearm). Super great place; you'll drive right by if you're not careful. I had Amy and she was so sweet and gentle. I was getting my first tattoo and she made the process very painless (so to speak). I got a cupcake tattoo about the size of a post-it note for $120. She made me very comfortable and the whole process only took a little less than two hours. The setup of the place allows a lot of privacy for clients and she made sure to show me that everything she was using was brand new and clean. She did a great job! Read Less

They were both fairly large pieces and the prices at this shop are super reasonable. For the artwork you get done its so worth it. The shop is also super clean, customer service is great, everyone is awesome and they work hard to make the experience comfortable for you. Lucy is great and I would highly recommend her. She has been able to take my ideas and turn them into beautiful pieces of permanent art. If it wasn't for the military and moving in six months I'd go to her for the rest of my ink. American Classic Tattoo, does very good work. The prices are reasonable and the artist are great. I took a design to them, the artist actually made minimal changes to the tattoo. The changes made the tattoo look much better then the original. The shop is clean and the personnel are professional and courteous. They will definitely do my next tattoo. The best. Read Less
