I just wrapped up a tattoo with Heath and I can assure you, you won't find better service in our area.  Here are a couple of highlights:-He holds weekly consultations to walk potential clients through their thoughts and ideas.  He takes the time to understand and is clearly an expert in this field.  What stood out to me though, is that I met with 3 other tattoo artists in this area first and one common theme for them but NOT Heath was arrogance.  While Heath explained to me the pros, cons, risks, and opportunities of my design, others just made me feel dumb for even asking.-His studio is one-man, but a decent size and set up perfectly for a professional tattoo.  Two TVs with your own selection help to be sure you can pass the time and see the screen no matter if lying on your back or sitting up.  Tasteful art throughout the studio, such that I felt comfortable bringing my kids into the shop with me.  Super hygenically clean and professional.-He takes the time to be sure your tattoo is done right.  He is incredibly meticulous in considering angles, spacing, placement, etc.  For something so permanent, this is a MUST.I will say that while his schedule is slammed (a testament to his reputation and quality), he does everything possible to try to get you in as soon as possible.  And even if it is a wait, it is WELL worth it for something you will live with forever. I’m not quite sure where to begin but please take my review for considerations from someone who have been getting tattoos for several years now. With my Chest completely covered, right arm sleeve 3/4, to small tattoos all over my body which I got in California from top world known tattoo shops as well. After being located around Northern VA area over 2 years ago, I struggled to find the RIGHT artist. I spent months researching and calling multiple shops until I found Heath. I... was worried that his schedule would be fully book and have no time for me. But actually Heath was more than humbling and caring when working with my schedule. Heath was very professional when we met and had consult. He has been one of the most honest artist I have ever met. The sessions were so calming that I didn’t even realize the tattoo pain. Heath was very down to earth, genuine, and even makes you laugh while you feel the pain! The vibe from Iron Heart Tattoo studio is nothing like any other. Closed private studio with zero distractions from loud music or people walking all over the places like in street tattoo shops. Heath made my simple tattoo idea come to life and now I am a walking piece of art. I promise you, you won’t find a better artist, shop or even a person within the VA area. This isn’t a fake review or something Heath asked me to do for him. This is a honest genuine review from a client who have been getting top of the line work from other artist in the past. Heath’s talent was everything I thought and more! I saw so many positive reviews here about this place and thought I’d give him a try. Today I just finished my whole ribcage! Originally I gave Heath a 3 star rating since he has great line work but lacked originality. I changed my rating to 1 star since he chose to discredit me as an artist, insult me as a customer, and not own up to his mistake of copying a great deal of an image on my tattoo. I gave Heath many references for my tattoo but he used about 90% of an easier image he found online. I did not write this review till months later because I was busy with my life. I have re-written my review multiple times based off of Heath's responses.The gist of it all was this: I was one of Heath's customers who was dissapointed to find out my tattoo piece was greatly unoriginal. As an actual artist, not a self proclaimed artist as Heath calls me, I enjoying having unique tattoos inspired by art that's transformed into something original. Unfortunately the tattoo Heath gave me was basically an image he found online, colored in, with a different face on it. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants unique original work. If you are looking for a great small one man shop, this is the place for you. Heath is very gifted. He designed exactly what I asked for. It turned out better than I could have imagined. He and I communicated once I scheduled my consult. As soon as I sent it, he responded with a date and time to come in. Once I showed up he was completely involved in what I wanted. I had brought in some pictures as examples of what my main idea was. After our consult, he recommended me going on a certain website to find more realistic pictures and had me send them to him. Explainig exactly what we had discussed. I put down my deposit so that I could get my date scheduled for my tattoo. He is a very busy guy so waiting was the worst, but it was worth the wait. I am so pleased with the outcome of my tattoo. He is very talented and as the tattoo was coming to life, I was able to see it. That was great. Let me just say something first. I have got alot of tattoo's. I've had them all done by different artists in both Australia and the US. I'm pleased and happy with every tattoo I have. I've been very lucky and have never had a bad tattoo experience. Heath has done my last two tattoo's and he, is by far the best artists, person and tattooist I've had do any work on me. He is up front, honest, fair, open..... his work is second to none. He takes pride in every tattoo he does... as if he was going to wear it himself. His attention to detail is amazing. This is going to be a long review but I hope it helps everyone out who is looking for a top notch artist. I have a full sleeve, and 8 other tattoos that have been done by various shops in Northern Virginia as well as a former competitor on the show "Ink Master" and none of them can touch the work done by Heath. My 20 year old son found his shop and I went with him to set up an appointment for Heath to tattoo a photo realistic lion. He is booked several months in advance and now I know why. He is definitely worth the wait. He did a very impressive piece on my son that I know other shops in this area would not be able to match the quality. I like the fact that he is appointment only and does not allow distractions to occur while he is working. His attention to his clients and to his craft are things that are not seen in other shops. You have his complete uninterrupted attention while in his chair. His attention to detail is unmatched. After seeing the work he did on my son, I decided to ask him about finishing my sleeve that was a disaster created by another shop that is now closed and the (con) artist that ran that shop is on the run hiding from others that he ripped off, and for those who know who I am referring to, he is in Arizona now. After talking to at least 10 other artists in this area, none of whom would even consider taking on this task, Heath to my surprise was eager to take on this challenge. I will be posting many pictures of the before and after when it is completed. I just spent my first 6 hours in his chair of an expected 24 hours and I am super excited about his work. He is taking a complete disaster that I am embarrassed for people to see and turning it into a work of art that I will be proud of people to see. I cannot wait for it to be finished and have now decided to have him rework all my tattoos. Here's the real difference between Heath and other shops:1- At other shops, all they care about is how many customers they can get in and out of in a day and how much money you spend. Not here. He takes on 1 client at a time, takes his time to make sure the customer gets exactly what they want and does not over extend himself. This means he will not be rushing through your tattoo because someone else is waiting.2- You wont be going into his place and picking out a flash on the wall that everyone and their grandmother already has on their body. All I have seen from him is truly original pieces of true artwork.3- You get his complete attention, no answering of phone calls, no distractions while he is working, no chaos and drama.4- No waiting around. When you are scheduled to be there, you are in his chair, not waiting for him to finish something else, not sitting around.5- No loud obnoxious music, he wears his headphones while working and there is a TV to watch whatever you want while he works. I went in for a consultation back in October. I was very impressed with Heath and his knowledge, his friendliness, and openness. He explained the entire process to me as it was my first time getting a tattoo. I was very satisfied and booked my appointment right then, for January 13th (which was a few days ago at this point). Met with Heath that morning, he walked me through the process again and was fantastic the entire time. Just finished getting a tattoo done by Heath and I could not be happier!!  I have been putting this piece on hold because I was not confident that it would be done right by anyone that I had met with previously but after reading all the reviews, stopping by the studio and meeting Heath, and scoring a really great time slot for my appointment I just got a good feeling that this was meant to be. I was NOT disappointed!  Heath is very light handed and quick but is still very precise with his line work and meticulous about giving you exactly what you want. I sketched my own design and it has some very specific details that mean a lot to this piece and I couldn't believe how well he kept those details and even suggested (which turned out even better than what I had) that they be a bit bolder than the other parts. The "sketch" look is perfect and the shading is absolute perfection!  As long as I live in Va I will never go to another artist!  If I could give more stars I would, 5 is not nearly enough!! Just got my tattoo done by Heath today. Second in my life, and it was a good experience. No price gouging (which happens often around bases), and super quality work. He was quick, in a good way, didn't waste any time. Sized the tattoo to fit well, and got right to it. I absolutely love the tattoo. Super nice guy as well. I'm a cautious shopper when it comes to ink.  I won't go to anyone who I think is a newbie even for a starter tat, I don't like being overcharged and I can sense someone with a heavy hand a mile away.  That's not just painful it makes for a poorly executed tat.  I always liked going to different artists to get different styles... Well no more because this is the absolute best artist in northern VA, and I would know.  It's not just what he can do but how he can do it.  He uses feathering techniques and gentle to heavy pressure to acquire realistic fur, or tree bark, highlights and depth bringing life to a subject or object he is creating.  When I first went to Heath his wife was having a baby and I wanted a rather time consuming tat done.  This man did everything in his power to make it happen which really resonated with me.  When I went in for the tat he was great to hang out with and we were both having an awesome time.  Nothing this guy did made me feel uncomfortable and his level of professionalism is outstanding.  When I was there I had the pleasure to witness Heath turn down a large fellows request for a hate tattoo without even thinking about it. (Sign of a REAL artist)  Afterwards he was quite irritated with this guy and as we talked about it I realized this was my "go to" artist from now on for any work I want done.  You know those famous tattoo artists out in Cali or Boston you wait a year or two to see?  This guys skill level is up there with those artists.  His artistry surpassed my expectations.  Don't waste your time looking for an artist when the best in the area is Heath...unless your looking for a hate tattoo then your out of luck cause this guy has standards.  I'm asking you to go to him so that when I want another he'll still be there and I won't have to fly out to another state to get inked.
