I want to start off by saying that I have had the utmost wonderful and amazing experiences with UB. I see Guru and to him, as my artist, I’ll stay loyal. I’ve always been given the best of work by him. His display is always done to the best of his abilities. He’s focused, strong minded, intelligent, and 100% knows what he’s talking about, and let’s not forget to mention how reasonably priced he is. He’s not one of those tattoo artist whom are in it “for the paycheck”, this man truly has a passion for what he does for a living. I’ve been seeing him for close to a year now, working on a sleeve, and it’s the only piece of art that I have that I genuinely love. NEVER come here! I went to see -Steve Marshall-at -Ugly Bishop’s tattoo- in Culpeper, VA. I heard good things about Steve Marshall so I went there to get an estimate and untimely getting tattooed. I told him I only had $300 and he said we would work within my budget. M He draws up a kick ass tattoo & I was thrilled. He said he needed me to pay in full before he started. I’ve never experienced that in any previous shops. But everywhere is different so I didn’t give it another ...thought. Before we started, I told him that I can be a big baby when it comes to pain. He was very kind and reassured me that we’d move at my pace, he said “We will see how much we get done today.” It made me feel better knowing if I couldn’t take the pain, I needed to stop, I could just come back. I asked how much he thought he was going to be able to get done. He kept saying “we’ll see & if we don’t finish today, you could come back in a week or 2.” The tattoo was supposed to be a 3 part piece... the script, then an image above & below the words. We finished 2 out of 3 parts. Although I was disappointed that it wasn’t finished, I was thrilled with what he had gotten done. I asked him about when I should come back & he said to just message him and we will figure it out. I also asked before leaving if I would owe him anymore money to get the tattoo r, he said no. He said that I had already paid & to message him to schedule an app to finish the tattoo. I fb messaged him within the next couple days asking what his availability was & about how long it will take. He said it will take about 20 minutes and he’ll do it for $100. I asked him what he meant. He proceeded to tell me that the $300 I paid was only for that one visit, I was very confused. I told him that $300 was all I had. He had drawn something out for me that he said that he would do for $300. Now sometime after I left and those next few days, he decided to tell me that he wants more. I tried reminding him of what we talked about. He drew that sketch out and said he’d do it for $300, my friend was even there and saw all this. I asked him if he could take a picture of the contract I signed... I was hoping there was something in there that would help. He told me he would not do that and no matter what the contract says he won’t finish my tattoo unless I pay him $100. We agreed upon a price for my tattoo. It couldn’t be finished in 1 sitting. So you tried to get another $100 out of me because you can. Can I do a ZERO star?!!!! Went in yesterday at 5pm and scheduled an appointment with GURU to get my daughters tattoo today at 4pm. GURU isn't a guru at anything as he "forgot" she was coming in today! Reality = someone walked in and their tattoo was gonna make him more money! How do you run a business dude?!! SO LAME! The whole experience from beginning to end was great! I first contacted Ugly Bishop's Shop then Steve "Guru" Marshall through fb and they both were very responsive. Sharing of my ideas and inspiration was encouraged which made it feel collaborative rather than a one man show.
