Double checked that the placement of the tattoo was okay with us as well as the size. The establishment is kinda small, but very clean and sterile. I went in to originally get a tattoo on my finger. The finger guy was straight to the point and honest I was not going to like it a few months down the road as it would only fade or just look like a Black spot. Disappointed I was grateful that he was super honest with me about it. So I decided to get it on my inner forearm. Chuanna (spelling) was SUPER GREAT! She gave me exactly what I wanted and more. TARA!!I would have never thought it possible to feel better about ones own physical appearance with body modifications.  But, here I am and very proud of what I have on my back. Being my second tattoo with Tara I feel she is completely trustworthy to have control over something as important as my skin. Very sanitary and careful, healing for me was incredibly fast and have never had a single issue after nearly 10 appointments including my first inking with her before the back piece. I adore coming to Ricks tattoo!  The team is great.  Front desk is awesome, responsive and the establishment has an all around great atmosphere that features artists who are quite responsible and mature about inking people. The attention I get with this art on my back that Tara executed is something I wasn't ready for if I go somewhere that requires me to take my shirt off or just a spa day.  I don't know what to expect when beach weather comes around but, I expect to be hoarse from explaining where I got my ink from and saying "thank you" because so far, it's nothing but questions and compliments.  I turn around with my back to a mirror and try to look at this tattoo hurting my damn neck every morning still in disbelief that this art is on me. i got my very first tattoo at rick's in... 1993.  i came back this summer for a large cover piece on my back, basically from the base of my neck to my hips.  i met amy, who was a perfect match for what i wanted.  over the course of four sessions, she applied her considerable skill to cover and match the ink i already had.  the results are phenomenal, and i couldn't be happier.  i'm already planning to come back next summer for a totally new design. in addition to being a great tattoo artist, amy's a wonderful person as well - patient on the days the needles hurt a bit more than usual, happy to talk about a wide range of topics, and just a fundamentally decent person.  i could not recommend her more highly. I came in without an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon, and luckily Amy was available to tattoo me. She was amazing--sketched out everything first, talked me through the process and made me feel really comfortable and safe. My husband and I went to get tattoos on Friday, July 20, 2018.  His first and my third.  We went to Amy Jones.  She was awesome.  All I can say is that she did an unbelievable job with my tattoo.  I would recommend her to anyone and everyone.The store is clean; Equipment clean and everything seemed sanitized.  The people were helpful and Amy did sketches for us to look at before we had the tattoos done.  This may not look like a great place on the outside but it is what is on the inside that counts!Keep putting out those tattoos Amy and thank you! So when I came out to visit him for the week we looked up tattoo places on yelp, and really liked the artwork that Ricks Tattoos has done. So we went in as I had called ahead of time and they insisted that I walk in would be perfectly fine for what I wanted. The part that took the longest probably was just the sketch up. I gave them the piece of the letter that I wanted and they printed out and sketch it up for me and let me know a price. For the size I just said as small as they could do it without the letters smudging so that it would still be readable. And they ended up charging me $120, please remember that this place is cash only! But they have an ATM inside. Zachary, who is currently an apprentice, did my tattoo. It was my first one and I was very very nervous because I wasn't sure how much it would hurt, But he assured me that I would be OK. The first outline he did was not the right placement that I wanted, so he made another one and made sure that it was exactly where I would want it since it would be permanent. The actual tattooing process didn't take long, probably about 20 minutes and it wasn't as painful as I thought it was. Zachary did great, and I love my new tattoo! So I stumbled upon Rick's by chance. I had been trying to schedule appointments through other parlors only to be turned down. Some required a deposit, some were hesitant about my design, and some just never responded. We went to Rick's on a walk-in basis; which as a 1st timer I found this to be the best way to actually commit to getting a tattoo. We were promptly greeted and upon showing my ideas we still had the same hesitant response, however the hesitation was explained. Ultimately I was seen by Ben, who was super professional and although he wasn't inclined to do water color at first....he did. I appreciate Ben and the staff at Rick's for their hospitality and good vibes whilst getting my first tattoo that also serves as a memorial tattoo. Great experience, it's been about 8 years since my last tattoo so I didn't know what to expect. I reviewed the artists portfolio and made an appointment with ChaunaB (she is very busy so make one soon). I had some pictures and left them with a deposit.  She contacted me and we agreed on what I was looking for. The design was perfect and WOW the tattoo came out awesome. Clean shop, awesome people, and great conversation while getting a small sprig of lavender for scar cover-up. I was a walk-in and it was my second tattoo, but I'm definitely only coming back to here. Update as of 5/17: another floral watercolor design! Tara did the one from last review, and the other day Amy did a beautiful rhododendron. She pulled out this perfectly sized and soft looking design from my really vague ideas. Took some time to get there but she was persistent and flexible with me! I'm very disappointed and almost hurt. I went to your shop and showed a very nice guy my daisy tattoo and a picture of what I wanted. He suggested to look at all the artists work so I can choose who I like best. And that's what I did, I chose Chauna so I emailed her. After a week or so of emails she just said and I quote 'this is not a project I am interested in'. I don't understand why someone would say that? How about, 'I don't think I'm best fit to do what you want but maybe I can recommend someone else' or 'what you want seems a bit difficult how about this?' Or I don't know... a million ways that could've been handled. It's very sad that she wasn't willing to work with me. I have other tattoos I want to get and we could've done that instead if she had given me the chance. I'm disappointed in this shop.  One of the artists has a $100 deposit from me yet I can not get him to respond w an appointment time.  We had an appointment about a year ago and he cancelled because he was sick.  He didn't reach back out and neither did I.  I recently contacted the shop/the artist again to book an appointment and he emailed me to say he would email me with an appointment.  That was three weeks ago.  I gave up and went to another shop in Arlington and was treated very well. I've had two tattoos done by Amy and one by Ben some years ago which have both healed beautifully. I went in yesterday to have my nipps repierced by Rob. I walked in (about 8pm, no appointment) and was serviced almost immediately. Some ladies were just walking out after having the same thing done and looked super happy with their result; laughing and remarking on how great their experience was. Good sign!The room and front foyer were extremely clean and tidy with a very friendly receptionist who was helpful in deciding what hardware to get and with forms. I opted for Titanium as my skin is somewhat sensitive to mixed metals. Overall it was 160 for both nipps with hardware, which is about what I expected to pay. Rob went over his method and what to expect as far as healing with the scar tissue from my previous piercing. He did not use clamps to pierce me. He explained that clamps cause more damage to that area which is sensitive as is! He lined them up with dots, had me lay down. Told me when to inhale and exhale quickly and bam, we were done within 8 minutes.  The fact that he can do it without clamps proves his skills as a piercer and dedication for an optimal experience. I have a follow up checkup in one to see how they're healing in a month,  which I've never had done, so I'm excited to see how these heal. The pain was minimal. Although I have a rather high pain tolerance. I iced them afterwards for about an hour and they haven't hurt since then. If you have a low pain tolerance, this will hurt but it's over before you know it. They look amazing and I'm so glad I got them redone. This is the BEST tattoo shop hands down. Out of all my tattoos the experience I had here was outstanding! I had to wait a while as Saturday's are walk ins only & I was a little down the list, but my friend & I just headed over to mcdonalds next door & grabbed a snack for 15 mins & it didn't seem that long at all. It was a really clean environment. Everyone was very professional. They had lots of tattoos and jewelry to choose from. We were lucky to have the owner himself do my daughter's nose piercing. He was AWESOME! He was very informative and answered questions. He told us what to expect and to call if we had any questions about the piercing. Over a week later my daughter was nervous about the healing process. She called and good an immediate answer. This review is perhaps a bit overdue as I got inked in December but wanted to see how it would heal. It's been over 1 month and It's beautiful. Although I've had a number of piercings done before this was my very first tattoo experience, the moment the front desk lady came down stairs from the deck off their entrance (which is behind the building off the main road down a short and narrow alley BTW) to check on my doggy that was walking around in their private, fenced parking lot to see he wasn't alone (I wasn't immediately visible) I knew they would be good peeps. She was friendly and once inside everyone checked in on me but not in a pushy way as I waited for my brother to get his millionth ink and I was still figuring out what to get myself. I just knew I wanted a brother sister ink bonding time after our first cross country trip to seal the positive experience. He couldn't have picked a better shop. I felt the quote I was given was fair. Note that they take cash payment, they have an ATM inside if you're not cash ready. They took care of other clients as I looked through books and were as quick to accommodate me as a walk-in as they could...I was confident going with the first available artist as I could see they value quality. In the meantime I even learned a few tidbits on jewelry fabrication and marketing from the nice southern piercing gentleman that was there as that's the kind of work I am getting my training in. I chose my clean and simple logo without script for my nomadic and tribal people inspired jewelry and home decor design company artisteobscure. It felt like getting repeatedly scratched by a kitten and as the machine vibrated it got kinda numb...SORTA... better than the horrors I'd imagined. I had a solid experience at Rick's. I came in with a plan and I was able to fulfill my plan through Blake (piercing) & Amy (tattoos).One of my favorite songs by The Script is called Wonders. I have followed this band since I lived in Ireland and watched them grow into an international sensation. One thing remains consistent is that they write their own songs and all of their songs have a strong meaning behind them. The lyric I had tattooed on my arm is..."make memories not dreams...". I live my life by this.Amy was extremely calm and professional. I feel you have to be in this industry when you have a ball of nerves walk in like me wanting to get tats done. She explained to me what was going to happen, what time frame it was going to take, the cost, and how the process would play out. I have had 2 previous tattoos done. My friend and I went here as walk-ins for tiny matching tattoos. The shop is clean and Missy was super friendly and let us watch whatever we wanted on the tv. After a lot of back and forth about removal vs cover up, and a consultation elsewhere that left me to believe my old poor life choice was not coverable I scheduled a consultation with Tara, fully expecting to hear go for removal. I was wrong. Without hesitation she said what I wanted was doable. When I came in for my first session, as soon as I saw the stencil I was in love, it was exactly what I wanted. Tara is very friendly, the good conversation definitely made the whole tattoo process a lot easier (for me at least!) overall the first session was pretty easy.Then there was the second. The shading/coloring was a little rough for me, near the end I wasn't feeling so great. It was pretty obvious, but everyone was extremely professional, and understanding. We decided to finish up another day. Tara and the piercer (I think his name was Blake) totally went above and beyond making sure I was okay. To be completely clear, it was my fault that I was not doing so well by the end- EAT BEFORE GETTING TATTOOED. Yep, I made that mistake. Anyway, they sat with me for well over an hour and Tara made sure I got home safely.  On top of being a totally amazingly talented artist, Tara is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Got my first tattoo with Ben.  He was truly incredible.  Came up with the perfect design for me (a lotus flower in a particular shape) based on some inspirations, and the actual tattoo process was basically painless and an amazing life experience.  The tattoo is BEAUTIFUL - exactly what I wanted - and just 3 days in I've had zero pain and many many many compliments - the detail Ben put in to a relatively small tattoo is exactly what I wanted. He was super helpful picking out the perfect piece of jewelry for her sensitive skin. Then took his time replacing the jewelry to make sure it went in correctly. My husband has had a few tattoos done by Troy, who is just amazing. The work is badass and beautiful. The place is terrific. I have always gone with my hubby and sat there and chatted away with folks or enjoyed watching (from a safe distance) the tattoo work being done. Missy is just an amazing human being. Yesterday, my partner and I came to the shop( we called at 12.15) and arrived on location at 1.20 pm. What a great experience. My sister-in-law and I popped in on a Sunday hoping to get walk-in appointments for tattoos and a piercing. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Rick's is a well known and well established tattoo parlor in N. Arlington. The talent varies wildly from artist to artist, but you can be sure to find the best in the area for whatever style of artwork you're seeking. You can also expect to pay top dollar even for simpler things, as is to be expected with a shop with a reputation for premium work. The guys inside are usually nice enough, though they have a low tolerance for people with little or no tattoo experience, and they are quick to judge people seeking "fad" tattoos or people with ideas that are "cheesy" or aren't logical for transfer to skin. The bottom line is this: for original art or complicated portraits or ideas you can be sure that Rick's will have an artist that can make your dreams come true (if the price tag doesn't kill you before you begin), or if you just want some lettering or you have something already drawn they'd still do a great job, but you can find a different shop that would cost a fraction of the price.Read Less

Rick's lives up to its many awards!It was fast, professional, and generally just a great customer experience. They have plenty of seating room, the staff was friendly, and the studio itself is bursting with life.Tara couldn't have been better, she was quick to respond to my email and fit me in for a walk-in. She also came up with a few creative ideas for my tattoo mid-appointment that I ended up liking and sticking with. She's definitely worth the wait! I've gotten at least five tattoos at Rick's with three different artists; I believe one of them has left, but the other two are fantastic. Ben has done some beautiful work for my little sister, very detailed and brilliantly unique. He's done several of mine which are generally simpler, but he's killer at the cool creative ones too - he did a sweet shaded piece for my best friend, and one or two for my mom. He's great, and fun company while you're getting your ink � yesterday ...I got a new tattoo by the only available artist n I really lucked out by getting Tara, who absolutely killed it, she was amazing and again really nice to chat with during the session. She did gorgeous flowers on my sister's forearm n is great working with clients to design the exact tattoo they want. Zack at the front desk is also super cool. Saw great reviews online, so I went in for my first non-ear piercing (Monroe). I'll admit I was pretty nervous, but Blake was great putting me at ease. I stopped by to get an old unprofessional tattoo covered.  Happened to book time with a talented young artist who did a great job.  I needed a small touch-up same day after the fact and he gladly did it.  Everyone was very nice.  I think a first timer info sheet prior to the tattoo would be a nice touch, what to expect during the process, etc., just to avoid foreseeable issues.   I was kind of in shock and did not carefully inspect the tattoo.  I could have saved everyone some time if I had taken a moment, sat down, calmed down, and then rechecked and had the small change made then.  I would go back. Got tatted a week ago by Ben Krist. The guy is really chill and is very talented. I gave him a rough idea of what I wanted and he perfectly designed a tattoo I've been planning on getting for a while now. The environment is very laid back and the place is clean and organized.Overall I'm really pleased with the place. A lot of people will say it's overpriced but as it's publicized in their shop "cheap tattoos aren't great and great tattoos aren't cheap" so expect to pay a little more than normal for these skilled artist. Chauna is awesome. I picked her because of her style and types of tattoos I saw on the shop's website. She has done 2 large pieces and 1 small piece for me. After spending roughly 15 hours with her, I can honestly say she's a great artist who loves her job. Chauna will spend the time talking with you, and is able to visualize & extract what you're thinking from a couple pictures. I'm honestly kind of surprised by people complaining about the price of the services here--do you really want to trust your health/skin/body to someone who charges the bare minimum? Some advice: don't walk in, but make an appointment first. Less of a line, and you can really think about exactly what you want. Also, look at the artists' portfolios! They're all good, but they also all have different styles, so it's a good idea to adjust for that accordingly.All in all, I've had great experiences here with both piercing and tattooing. The artist who did my tattoo has left, but was great, and Craig was just awesome. Rick's Tattoo's is both professional and skilled; they're worth the money. Read Less

Unless youre getting a huge extrganent tattoo then your business is 100% not welcome. 6 of us wanted to get 2 inch, small tattoos and from the minute we walked in, the female tattoo artist mocked us. Sorry we weren't putting your "expertise" to its fullest potential with our small, simple tattoos.When they told us the price of a minimum of $100 for a 2 inch tattoo (and the man mock my beautiful 7 inch rib tattoo that cost $150 in Radford, Virginia, because of where it was done at), we immediately stepped back.BUT... if the guy taking reservations wasn't as rude as he was then we would have paid for their business. The fact that he was a straight up asshole was the reason why i'm even writing this right now. If i could give his manners less than a 1 star then i would. So like I said in the beginning... unless youre getting something extravagant done...dont bother. Or try to avoid the short guy who takes your reaervation when you walk in.OWNERS - You need a new receptionist. Thats all he is and will ever be anyways....... Read Less

I got my first tattoo here as a walk-in.  They took me quickly and the staff was friendly, fun, and take their work very seriously. The place is very clean and they coach you through after care for your new ink. I'd recommending getting there early if you're a walk-in (I came at 10:30 am on Saturday and it was already filling up). Read Less

Ben is fantastic.Everytime I've gone into the shop, he is ready to go. He is super enthusiastic and sweet, and definitely creative. I have been to shops across the country and this one s by far the most accommodating shop I've been to. They are so chill and nice! I've gotten 2 pieces here in the past 5 months, both traditional and I Love 'em. This shop (and Ben) are for sure worth visiting. My good friend Patrick has been going there for years and most recently he got a Beetles sleeve done by Tara. It was amazing. So he gave me the places information and I called that day. They told me Saturdays are for walkins so, we went and I was able to show her what i wanted. We set the date for june 1 at 530 pm. But I realized I had off that day and sent her an email to see if she could get me in sooner. She called me the night before an offered me noon! :) She was so gentle, kept my mind busy (this is only my second tattoo ever and we were treating it like my first) Also she wears a little head lamp, which tells me she pays attention to the small details. So I came in on a Sunday as a walk in understanding that I would have to wait my turn. I didn't mind at all, so wrote my name on the list and requested Chauna. I must say she was 100% worth the wait!! I showed her exactly what I wanted she added an idea of her own and boom, time to start the tattoo! I told her I always tend to get nervous even though this isn't my first tattoo, and she was really nice and talked to me through it all. The end result, amazing!! Even better than what I envisioned it to look like. I will be going back to see Chauna for a touch up that I need on a different tattoo and possibly something new! :) I would like to add for those that hate waiting don't go as a walk in just make an appointment. Be careful to move slowly when contemplating getting body art, you shouild have complete faith in the person sticking the needles in your skin. Everyone I have spoken with about the process, have had nothing but praise for Rick's Tatoo place. I go to Dan to get my tatts. I choose him because my Dad went to him (4 times) and he had a great experience. I also went to Dan because I knew he loved Sailor Jerry tatts and that's what I really wanted. He first did a blue bird for me on my forearm, fab! And now I'm back for more.
