Found and save this parlor one day on this site because I saw 5 stars from other Yelpers.  I finally made a trip to get my Bowie thunderbolt tattoo the day before my birthday hehe.  I messaged them here to see if there's a spot and thankfully there was one person who was available.  I got my tattoo done by a guy named Rat and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.  Very nice and friendly.  Also a bit geeky.  He's not hardhanded thankfully! Although he's an apprentice, I'm so in awe with my new tattoo and the cleanliness of the lines and coloring.  I also appreciate the fact that he had JJ check out the finished art for quality work.  Overall experience, I wish I can give 100 stars!  It was a comfortable experience, with an eccentric main room.  It's clean and it doesn't have that stereotypical "tough guy" tattoo parlor vibe.  They're tucked away in an alley with other shops, and parking is easy to find.  Don't let the 2 hour parking signs at the actual parking lot scare you.  I parked there for more than 2 hours and it was fine. Although they've only opened for 2 years, I really hope they get more recognition and clients because this is the first time I've been to Utah's tattoo parlor, that I have no connections with like I would back in California.  I'm definitely coming back with my spouse for our next tattoo! There are a lot of choices when considering a tattoo artist. I recently went back for my second tattoo from JJ and both experiences were exceptional. Attention to detail, researching the subject so he completely understands what it is he will be working on, and most importantly being in a clean environment is why I chose to go to Prohibition Ink! And not to neglect mentioning what a great atmosphere and friendly group of people at Prohibition. JJ was instrumental in guiding me with the right decision for my tattoo. Had an amazing experience getting tattooed by JJ! He is an impressive artist, and especially if you want a nature or flora/botanical tattoo- he is your guy! I am blown away by the detail he got on the peony tattoo on my chest - every time I see it I can’t believe it’s on me! The atmosphere of prohibition makes the tattoo experience (which honestly makes me anxious) so much more relaxing and enjoyable, and puts me at ease- from the hospitality of all the artists, the unique decor, and the private areas for tattooing. He even put on some tv to watch to help me have something to focus on. I have received three tattoos from jj and hope to get more! I am impressed every time. This was my second tattoo from Rat at Prohibition. My first one was simple, but I loved the way the shop made me feel welcome, so I came back for a second more complex tattoo. I'm not artistic at all, but Rat worked from my description and some photos I sent him to design something unique and personal for me, and I completely love it! He and JJ also worked with me on placement to get the look I wanted. It was a sensitive spot, but Rat made sure to check in with me and we took as many breaks as I needed. He and JJ were both very encouraging, especially at the end when it was most difficult for me. Bottom line, I love this shop, and will keep going back to them for all my tattoos. Highly recommend! JJ is such an amazing and talented artist. He is super passionate about what he does and takes his time. From day 1 him and Darlene have been so accommodating. My husband got his first tattoo here from apprentice Rat. We were a walk in that they very kindly accommodated. Rat helped design a beautiful tattoo to my husband's specifications and talked us through the whole process. Reasons why we chose here over other parlors: - Excellent ratings compared to other parlors (seriously, go look at the statistical distribution, I'll wait) - Their website has the best, clearest, most detailed instructions of any I found for what to expect and how to care for your tattoo after. Surprised JJ isn't booked out a year in advance! JJ is a amazing artist and humble very great to work with! His wife is awesome getting everything set up and business guru and giving great artistic feedback in the process. We have both noticed the attention to detail and after care instructions they provide that are tattoos heal faster and the end results are always beyond expectations.Both myself and my boyfriend have been going to them for several tattoos and never disappointed!!! This place is awesome and has a great feel to it when you step into the shop. JJ is amazing at his work...a true artist. I had a wonderful experience with JJ and Darlene - they really care for the "whole person" before, during, and after the tattoo. For my first tattoo, JJ and Darlene were the best a guy could hope for. Darlene was attentive and interested in my ideas when I stopped in to meet JJ and see when he could fit me in his schedule. My experience with other shops led me to expect that JJ would not to want to flex his creative muscles, but I couldn't have been more wrong. With very limited information, JJ came up with a wonderful piece. My appointment ended up taking 3 hours, JJ was attentive and offered ample breaks and warnings about areas that were going to be a little rough. I can't wait to schedule my next piece with them!
