I bought a City Weekly Deal for a tattoo voucher from a various selection of local tattoo shops. When I lived in Provo, I had heard good things about Painted Temple, and was happy to see they had changed locations up to Salt Lake where I currently live. I walked into the space one day and was greeted by one of the artists Austin Jones. He was working on someone, so I scheduled to come back the following day. I wanted something geometric/constellation like with very fine line work. I arrived at the appointment and he sat down with me and was fast and efficient with drawing something up I liked. I wasn't quite sure about placement, but he was willing to put the draw-up on various spots until I decided on my forearm. He was quick, but didn't rush. The tattoo is absolutely stunning. There are some lines in it that are SO small, and his work is absolutely immaculate. Its all done healing and its seriously one of the best tattoos I've had done, I get complimented on it all the time. Austin himself is friendly, patient, professional, and extremely accommodating. I would highly highly recommend him and Painted Temple. I'll definitely be coming back here. Read Less

Painted Temple, along with its sister shop Black Thumb, is a gem in the crown of Utah's tattoo shops. The shop has a warm atmosphere, which is welcoming, clean, and professional. The artists who call Painted Temple home will not disappoint anyone looking to be adorned. Highly impressed with the artwork coming out of painted temple. The studio has individual rooms for more privacy and each artist has customized their rooms to their style. So incredibly sad that Daniel Walker has left as I felt he and Oak Adams were both incredible realistic artists. Oak is still at this location but was booked out almost a year last time I checked (which only proves his talent). They also have a great new age artist. I got my first tattoo here from Chris Rose. Before I got my tattoo, I went all over SLC to find intelligent artists, clean spaces, and individual rooms. Painted Temple was the only one that fit the bill.Chris was extremely patient and helpful. He was very blunt with his opinions and told me he thought getting a first tattoo on my ribs was a bad idea, so he helped me find an alternative. A year later, I am still loving my tattoo and would not pass up the chance to get another one from Chris. He's a weird and cool guy and he only had interesting and intelligent things to say. Oak is very talented and nice.Good experience in general. First tattoo here. Oak was very adamant about making my tattoo feminine and went thru three or four drawings before he was happy.I returned months ago and was disappointed to see the shop had turned into a thriving business. Good for them, bad for customer service. I felt ignored the second time I went in. No more cozy sitting area, lots of booths now.I recommend Oak  100% but wish the shop would go back to the old way.    .02 Read Less
