I have heard nothing but good things about Oni, and most of my family comes here for their tattoos. Since my usual shop didn't have any appointments available on the day that I was desperately craving a new tattoo, I figured it was time to check Oni out and see what my family was talking about.I had a simple design in mind. I wanted "WE ALL FLOAT DOWN HERE" on my side with a yellow balloon floating away from it. Stephen King's "IT" was the first horror movie I ever saw, so it's always had a special place in my heart. The scene where Pennywise the clown said that to Georgie scared the crap out of my 4 year old self, so I knew it would be a cool tattoo to have.I picked out a really simple font, and scheduled an appointment with Zach. I hadn't heard anything about him on Yelp, but I assumed he would be good since he held down a spot at Oni. I brought in a reference photo for the font I wanted, and Zach was pretty confident that he would be able to replicate it. He nailed the font perfectly, but I ALMOST didn't get the quote that I wanted. The reference photo was some depressing quote about finding a new reason to hate myself everyday, and for some reason Zach thought that was what I wanted tattooed on me. I am happy that we were able to correct that mistake, as that would have been a very embarrassing tattoo! The tattoo process itself sucked, as usual. This was my ninth tattoo, and BY FAR my most painful one. I had heard that side tattoos aren't kittens and rainbows, but nothing could have prepared me for the amount of pain that was coming my way! If I hadn't gone to the bathroom before getting the tattoo, I would have gone to the bathroom the moment that needle hit my skin. Zach was nice and talkative throughout the whole process, so that was a nice distraction from being able to feel the vibrations from the machine in my heart.Zach really took his time with my tattoo, and he even let me pick which shade of yellow I wanted for the balloon. Letting you chose your own color doesn't seem like a big deal, but I have never had an artist allow me to do that before! It was a nice change. He gave me two options and showed me what each would look like after the healing process had been completed, I made the best choice I could, and I am super happy with the color I chose! Zach made a few creative suggestions, and I took them. We ended up filling in a few of the letters with the yellow ink, and I personally think it looks awesome. It takes my boring quote and adds some color to it. I normally hate when creative suggestions are given, but I appreciated Zach's.The only thing keeping this from being a 5 start review is just the quote mess up and how long it took to set up. I sat for over an hour waiting for the station to be set up, but I guess waiting is worth a sanitary work environment. Read Less
