I got my first tattoo done by oscar totally spur of the moment. He was fast, and really professional. The other tattoo artist was really nice, and my brother, who came with me, was blown away by how awesome it was that they took a walk in, and by how clean it was. These guys are extremely rude and unprofessional. I tried calling AND emailing to make and appointment and they never called or emailed back so I just came in. I got my tattoo done on my back, and I made another appointment to finish it. When I came in at 6:30 on a Friday (my time I scheduled for, also paid for already), the dude was doing some other guys tattoo so he made me wait. Half an hour later they ended up telling me I had to leave because I had my baby with me. Like why didn't they say that to begin with...Anyways, my sister went back in to grab my deposit I put down since he made me go all the way down there and he was too busy (even though I scheduled), and they told me I can't get it back. They were being rude to her cuz she asked. So I paid for a tattoo that's not even finished. Definitely not going back. The guys there are disrespectful assholes! Read Less

"Scheduled a touch up along with two new tattoos. When I arrived to my apt they told me there wasn't enough time for all my tattoos. Which was odd, because I scheduled an appointment for all of them. But I was a good sport and I asked if I could just have the touch up. They looked right at it and said it didn't need it. It did. Some of the lines are clearly disconnected. But they kept telling me they didn't have time and I didn't need it. It seems odd they wouldn't touch up their own work. Went to cathedral instead." Read Less

Look, I'm about as shy and anxious as they come, and even I felt at ease at Heart of Gold, a place that is entirely out of my element. I went in for my very first tattoo, and James was *fantastic.* I brought him a picture, and he translated it to skin with an expert eye, eliminating elements of the image that would have made it too crowded. He put me completely at ease, and I actually sort of drifted off to sleep several times during the tattoo (I was lying on my side), which... I think says how much I trusted him. I was impressed by the way the artists oohed and ahhhed over each other's work and "talked shop" about inks and other tools of the trade. It was fun, and I can't wait to go back for my next one. If you are nervous at all about getting a tattoo, I recommend James (and surely any artist at Heart of Gold) with no reservation. Very nice people. All of the artists here are great! If you want to walk in for something this is a great shop for that. No matter who you get you'll be pleased. I have friends who are die hard one-artits clients to John, Shane, and Andrew. I have several from Austin and I always enjoy seeing Oscar's work. The shop has a fun atmosphere, very friendly. Totally clean and gorgeous. Its even fun to be there for hours getting large peices! Love these guys! Since I can only do one review I'll do a ...sort of P.S. here... Austin Huffman is a wonderful person and artist. He has done some of my favorite tattoos including a memorial paw print tattoo for my kitty. Austin was so sweet, patient, and helpful when I was having a hard time getting a good paw print image to transfer. He was perfectly empathic to my emotional state. I felt safe to grieve and felt no judgments. That was a very important process for me. The whole shop was supportive and kind. People get tattoos for many reasons, often they have deep personal relevance. Having a artist who is so respectful and kind can make for a really positive experience. Even while grieving.
