Julie did my lips a couple years ago and i love them so much, friends have also now gone to her. I’ve been back to her for concealer and plan for brows next. I trust Julie because she accomplishes the natural look i am after — subtle enough so that no one knows i have permanent make up, but visible enough that i can leave the house without makeup and still be presentable. She is THE girl to go to in Austin. She is recommended by the staff at Westlake Dematology and other welll-know top ranked plastic surgeons and dermatologists in town for a reason!! If you want permanent make-up done right and done well, this is the place to go. If you want cheap permanent make-up, or a one-hit quick and easy fix-all for someone else’s botched job, this may not be the place because Julie doesn’t cut corners and really takes time to get it right. Now don’t go in there expecting a spa treatment and gentle massage....Julie is going to get the job done right, so she is going to boss you around, tell you to relax, get up in your business and move your face to get the right angle for her machine. She knows what it takes to get the results you want and she means business! That being said, her office has a relaxed casual vibe while she listens to music and chats with her office staff so you have some distractions while she works on you. She is direct and a straight shooter and depending on the area, you may have to get a touch up, or second visit...but for something like concealer or scar coverups where you was subtle color, i prefer that over someone taking the risk of adding too much color so that it’s obvious i had something done. So do what she says, follow her recommendations for arnica and after care and you will be surprised how quickly you heal. Julie is amazing!! Yes it is expensive but it is so worth it because you get what you pay for!! I've seen a friend have her eyeliner done elsewhere that was cheaper and fast. For a week after she looked like someone had punched her in the face as she looked as if she had blood bags under both eyes etc... Not so with Julie. She takes her time and does an excellent job. I did my research before initially coming to The Perfect Look for my permanent eyeliner in April 2017. I finally had my follow-up eyeliner appointment this past Friday, October 20, 2017. Originally I was to have it done in May but I've had to re-schedule twice. First time was due to my mother having a massive heart attack at the end of April and the 2nd time was due to my vehicle getting stolen from Fiesta Texas in San Antonio in July. The receptionist reschedule both times with no hassles and no fees. She was very kind and compassionate. I called to reschedule both appointments approximately a week before the appointment. Everyone in this office is very nice, polite and funny. I've enjoyed both visits here immensely and have every intention of going back and having my lips and eyebrows done. Recently she did my eyeshadow and I could not be happier with my results. I hadn't seen her in years, but she remembered exactly who I was, and I trusted her to know exactly what colors I would like and would look good on me. Unlike my mom who has darker colored eyeshadows her, she knew I did not want to go that dark and knew that although the dark looks awesome on my mother it would not look the same on me. Like any tattoo there is some discomfort, but she does numb the areas as much as she can and as often as she can. She never rushes herself and is very meticulous; the initial appointment you have done she informs you that you will be red and/or swollen and upon returning she will make sure everything is to your liking. Julie's an artist. She's intense, TALENTED and all about the results. She won't suck up or bs to get or keep a client. She shoots super straight. I LOVE HER. So first of all, it didn't even feel like I was going to have my eyebrows done. It felt like I was hanging out with my friends and playing with makeup. Julie & Julie are both so amazing and through, while being crazy down to earth and real. I had the best experience with her getting Microblading done today. I have been looking for somewhere that could do my microblading because while my eyebrows were dark which made them appear thick, they really weren't and they were not the same shape at all. Julie mapped out my eyebrows and made sure to ask how I wanted my eyebrows to look and even asked for pictures of how I normally did them when I filled them in to get the best idea of what my goal was. Even after the mapping, she checked with me to make sure the shape I had was the one I wanted. Julie was able to use my face shape and how I do my makeup to create brows that are so natural looking that nobody knows that they aren't done 24/7.This is the BEST place to get these done if you want a professional yet relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel more like a friend than a client they want in and out. Julie is amazing! Got my eyeliner done 4 years ago and it's the best thing I've ever spent $ on. Love love love how it looks! I recently had my 2nd touch up to get it thicker. Julie is a true artist & I trust her to make me more beautiful. On a whim I got my eyebrows done during my last visit & I am loving the way they look. I don't even wear foundation anymore, just moisturizer & my permanent cosmetics is all I need. I can't express enough how this is the best thing I've ever spent my $ on. I wouldn't see anyone else - drove all the way from Houston to go to The Perfect Look. No swelling for my brows. I patted a damp washcloth over my eyes several times a day to keep them from being too dry. In about a week slight sloughing from skin healing on eyeliner which is normal. (Just FYI, This isn't my first review, more like my 10th,  but it's been so long since I posted regularly that I no longer have the email/logon info, so hopefully this won't get dismissed.)My faith in and gratitude for Julie Shumate is absolute! And at this point in my life, especially when it comes to my face, I have insanely high standards. Over the past 12 years I've had 5 cosmetic tattoo "artists" work on me. The first 4 all made glaring (supposedly unfixable, to hear them say it) mistakes that #5 (Julie) immediately corrected AND improved upon. Julie Shumate is even more demanding of herself than I am (and that's saying something). I've rarely met someone so dedicated to her craft, totally professional, and worth the price. I so wish I'd have found her first. I actually would've saved $2-3,000.My eyebrows, originally done by someone else in 2003, turned a greenish tint over the years. I have blonde brows, which I dye brown/auburn, but within a week of my bi-monthly dye job they start to fade and thus lose their finely arched shape. With Julie's flawless arch and natural brown shade, I can go much longer without having to tint them (tinting costs up to $50, twice a month) and still have a great finished look. I rarely, if ever, use brow pencil anymore, unless the dye is very faded and I want a very dramatic look for an evening out. All my friends/coworkers complimented my new brows and how they finally gave me that natural "frame" that brows are supposed to, since for natural blondes and redheads, it's a constant struggle to have that finished/framed look. With Julie's work i can swim or go without makeup and look my best 24/7. Her work is incredibly natural looking, but striking at the same time.My original eye-liner (also done in 2003), after 3 passes, never would take. The 2nd "artist" I found (in 2006) tried to compensate by using pure black (on a pale, freckled, redhead, no less ... sigh) and created such thick lines that I ended up with a very unnatural look. Julie fixed it with the exact, natural brown line at the base of my lashes I'd always wanted. She can't "erase" the horror of that 2nd job, but she knew how to offset it and do a subtle camouflage, so that it's less obvious or unnatural. Julie's work has been vital for someone like me, with blonde/reddish lashes to not look "washed out" without makeup.  My lips, were a major issue, considering that TWO previous Austin "artists" (2010) did such a horrible job that my lip liner was uneven in both shape and shading. I looked DISFIGURED until I got to Julie. For this alone she has my undying respect. I've thrown out every lipstick I own and am convinced Julie has improved upon God's own handiwork. I had no idea my lips could look this good, and the color hasn't faded one bit. Julie uses better equipment and lasting ink, so you don't have to redo everything in 2-3 years like all the other local "artists" claim you must (to get repeat business, I suspect).Also, all 4 previous artists caused tremendous pain, scabbing and flaking, but with Julie's work I look flawless from the moment I leave her chair. The flaking is minimal, barely there, and the pain is a fraction of what the others caused me. In regard to another review here mentioning cigarette smoke, I have to say that on the rare occasion Julie takes a smoke break, it's very quick, and always during the downtime in which the numbing cream is soaking into my skin. ONE TIME the weather was so bad she smoked in her car and the scent was apparent (briefly), but usually that is not the case. Julie is incredibly considerate and professional. She's also human and I really don't see the problem with a rare smoke break. Also, she's got a great personality, is funny, kind, smart, and strong. Some people aren't used to dealing with confident women. Frankly, I wouldn't let anyone else near my face. Julie Shumate is light years ahead of her peers. What passes for cosmetic tattooing in Austin is a joke and I know 4 "artists" who should be stripped of their license. First and foremost taking several cigarette breaks while I am in the chair and wreaking of smoke was not my idea of a pleasant experience.  She chain smokes and I was actually really annoyed by it as it took A LOT longer to finish then it should have.  On my second follow up appt Julie was 45 minutes late getting there which also really annoyed me.I had Julie give me a more bold top eyeliner to an already existing liner from years ago.  It turned out okay, it wasn't exactly what I wanted.  While she was doing my liner she then went to my eyebrows and started making some corrections without even asking me first.  She basically said "oh sweetheart let me do you a favor".  Well no favor was done as I had really dark brown tattoo on my eyebrows and she completely f-ed it up by putting a different color, a lighter brown that was almost peach tint when it healed.  So now I have to pencil in my brows to cover up the bullshit color that she put there without even getting my permission to do so.If you research her online, her and her father have been sued for apparently giving someone Hepatitis during the procedure in the past.  She claimed to me that she herself makes and sharpens her own needles.  Her prices are ridiculous too.  She is not the inventor like she claims to be and her ego also rubbed me the wrong way.  I find that very hard to believe as I have been getting tattooed for years by others across the USA.I would not recommend her at all. Julie did a great job tattooing my sister's brows. I was with her the whole time and got to see first hand what a great job she does and free hand! She does not use stencils or make-up as a marker. I'm an aesthetician and have seen some really terrible jobs! Julie was great, super informative, made my sis feel very comfortable, and it was so fast!! In and out in an hour with beautiful brows. Julie tattooed my eyebrows a couple of years ago-- thank god they have faded a good bit, but they're still completely crooked, and look ridiculous. If you have alopecia, or any sort of brow issue, just go elsewhere. So not worth the money. Read Less

For years, I've wanted to do something with my pathetic eyebrows and recently I finally took the plunge.  Boy, am I glad i did....I was apprehensive/nervous because it is "permanent" but Julie was very thorough both in her explanation and with the overall process.  I researched this quite a bit and was finally sold after reviewing Julie's website and going for an initial consultation.I am very, very happy with the results and now wish I'd done it 10 years ago!  The only possible complaint I could have is that it's been really hard to get in for a follow-up appointment because Julie is booked months in advance.  But, as a business owner, Julie should be proud of that problem :-)!I would highly and enthusiastically recommend Julie Shumate and The Perfect Look! This is my first entry on Yelp but I feel compelled to write this review regarding Julie at The Perfect Look.  She has a great sales pitch however she made a complete mess of my face.  She was confident and had me convinced she knew what she was doing however has caused permanent damage to my face.  She advertises permanent makeup, but she should advertise 'permanent damage'.  My daughter wanted some minimal permanent makeup done and found The Perfect Look online.  Thank goodness she told me about this before it was too late.  This is the reason I am writing this review.  It was pretty scary thinking that Julie could have ruined my daughter's  face as she has mine and I don't want ANYONE  else to have the results I have to look at every day in the mirror. If you want the real deal, this is where you go. Period. I had heard of some friends getting permanent eyeliner years ago. I was intrigued as the main makeup I wore on a consistent basis was eyeliner. I wasn't sure I would always wear dark brown eyeliner so I told myself I would wait a few years and see if I was still wearing the same color. Sure enough about 7 years later I realized that I was in fact wearing the same color and hated applying it just as much as ever. And honestly just to get it right I had to cake it on and then use zillions of q-tips to erase all of the excess and get a clean line. What a mess. From what I understand the way my eyelashes grow (zig zagging up and down in a major way) it makes sense that eyeliner was difficult to apply. So for Mother's Day in 2007 I treated myself to permanent eyeliner at The Perfect Look. LOVE! After nearly 4 years, it has remained looking awesome but I was ready to go thicker and darker. So I went back to The Perfect Look today to do just that. Julie is an artist, thorough and wants you to look amazing just as much as you want it for yourself. It is not as painful or uncomfortable as you may expect. Friends have asked me "but don't you miss your fresh (no makeup) face?". Uhhh, no - I don't! I'm surprised that there are no reviews of this place. It is great I'm fan of permanent makeup, first because I am very busy, and second most makeup just slides off my face. It was getting to the point where I was seriously using a Sharpie for eyeliner. I had a "permanent" job in Houston. It was okay, but barely lasted 2 years. I looked around here and was impressed by Julies website. She meets with you for a consultation. She will be realisitic - she'll look at your age and skin tone and bone structure and will refuse to do something if she knows it will look bad. I had my eyebrows done again - such attention to care! She spent about 3 hours before tattooting just shaping the brow, stepping back, looking at the overall picture. She actually stepped out of the room and came in to see the overall first impression. Does it hurt? Well, yes, it is a tattoo, but she uses numbing cream which helps ALOT.  I have also had my eyeliner done which is perfect (eyeliner is a tad more cumbersome, since you have to have your eyes open, but she was great about it.)My makeup- looks really natural. No one really thinks I had anything done, just things I have amazingly perfect eyebrows. The price includes one touch up because naturally, tattoos will start to face I can't express enough how much I love this place.
