I give them 2 stars because they are probably the best shop on the island. That said, they aren’t good at all. I’m a tattoo artist and I was considering moving to South Padre so I did a guest spot there. I was supposed to be there for a week and I packed my stuff on day three. Their standards are low and the owner is definitely not a nice or good man at all. He literally walked around the shop with his shirt off when lady customers were there and he has two large uncontained dogs that bark aggressively at everyone entering the door. Not sure what the laws are in Texas but where I come from dogs are not allowed in tattoo studios because of the risk of infection. I saw a lot in two days and I could definitely go on and on. In SPI for one of my sons wedding. Vihad and his crew (two legged and four legged) were the best for my crew...five us us walked in together. We were from OK, NC, and GA. Got my first tattoo at 57. We had many questions and comments. He was straight up with all of us. I told him what I wanted and what size. He said, "I can do it the size you want, but you'll lose the detail in it. If I do it larger, you'll get the detail effect. Trust me." I did and he was right. Love my 'old lady' tattoo and loved the opportunity to visit with him. My family and I were down in SP for vacation and decided to get tattoos. After doing some research we decided to call Vahid, he was closed but was willing to open up his shop for my husband and I. Vahid brought our tattoo ideas to life and did an amazing job - he is a true artist and doesn't do the "pick the picture off the wall art" type of tattoos. His dogs are so well behaved, they knew where they could and could not go and our teenage daughter had a great time loving on them while we were getting our tattoos. We loved our tattoos so much and Vahid was such a great guy that the next year when we went back we got another tattoo. Keep up the amazing work! Called today for an appointment and Vahid was initially booked. After a month of researching the "perfect" place to go, I was slightly disappointed that I'd have to wait on my tattoo since I'm not on the island long. (Dumb on my part for not scheduling!) He called me a few hours later stating he had availability -- in which he could give me a tattoo. LOVE IT! I got "Hesed" tattooed, which is the Hebrew word Chesed meaning a loving-kindness which is only experienced through and from God, and was glad to have a gentle-giant doing the tattooing! I loved on the beautiful black dogs (heart melted!!) and was thankful for the precautions taken with sanitizing everything. Great shop, strongly recommend! Read Less

I have to say that when I walked through the doors of Magnum Opus Tattoo Co. the first time I set foot on South Padre Island I was met by nothing but kindness and professionalism! Vahid was busy but he stopped to take care of my requests and had me set for an appt in no time. He is very easy going and talkative, which makes his clientele feel comfortable during the sessions. This place was very sterile, very clean, and the artist is very knowledgeable about shading, solid lines and colors. I went to this place while on a vacation and his prices for his work were very reasonable. He is a very funny and chill dude who makes the time spent there at his shop very entertaining. But he didn't show and someone finally let us know after about 45 minutes after the 1st appointment that he was "sick." We planned our activities carefully around these appointments. My wife and I commemorated our honeymoon to South Padre Island with a visit to Magnum Opus. Vahid was a gentle giant when it came to actually doing the tattoo. Hardly felt any pain at all.
