have got my nose pierced here, my smiley, and two others that are a secret. Staff is very good at making you feel comfortable and thoroughly explaining what they're doing. Aftercare is easily explained as well, and any questions you have are answered. So many piercing and tattoo shops in San Marcos but Mystic Marks will always be my favorite! WORST ESTABLISHMENT EVER! Despite all the horrible reviews I still decided to give this joke of a shop a chance. Was waiting for 15 min in front, one of the workers made eye contact with me but never greeted me or said i'll be right with you. Until i went towards the back to ask a question i was met by the most unpleasant guy I've ever encountered. I asked if there was a piercer on   site and he said yes and asked what was roughly the wait time and he chucked and said " pshh i don't know" Just very passive aggressive and then asked a question about the documentation needed for my 16 yr old sister and he just so bothered that he actually had to work. Needless to say he was super rude. I made a suggestion that he needed someone in front to greet customers coming in and his response was " yeah well its our business so" I don't know how this "company" is still in business but I will make sure I warn everyone I know how this company works. I went in for a consultation for a cover up for a tattoo I currently have. Upon first walking in no one helped me which I thought was rude. Then when an artist did come to talk to me he told me that it absolutely HAD to be in color, which previous artists said doing the cover up in all black and grey would be easy. This made me feel like he was only saying that in order to charge me more for my tattoo. Then, when telling him what design I wanted over the tattoo he told me to go home and draw it myself, as if I was the tattoo artist. How unbelievably ridiculous. Before going to mystic marks I went to several other tattoo shops for a consultation on the same tattoo. All of the other shops and artists were able to sit down with me and show me different design options and even gave me price estimates. The "tattoo artist", I say in quotes since he expected ME to do the drawing, didn't even show me any sketches that could cover up my tattoo. He wasn't willing to even SIT with me and SHOW me any of my options. ADDITIONALLY, he couldn't even give me a price !!! For being the oldest tattoo shop in San Marcos you would think these people would have better customer service instead of being absolutely rude and unhelpful to their customers. My best friend and i went in because she was ready to get three new piercings on her ear. we were told it would cost $40 for all three. we waited for a while and then we met andrew, the guy who does the piercings. andrew was incredibly rude from the moment we met him to the moment we left. she asked if it was ok if i went back with her and andrew said "i don't care" which was said to us about three more times during our visit there. after he did the piercings (which we were told were very poor in placement and also he used backings that were prone to spreading bacteria) he told us the cost would be 50. we told him that someone else said it would be 40 and he replied that that's fine and the person was just "f*cking dumb." we should've just left after initially meeting him and seeing how rude he was. other than that it's a nice place but i definitely won't go back there again. I went in to replace an already existing cartilage piercing that had fallen out while I was floating the river and the girl that helped me was not nice and very inconsiderate. I picked out the earring I wanted and I asked if she could put it in. I then asked if she could clean my ear and the earring before she put it in and she spoke to me like I was stupid and then ended up not even cleaning it. She told me that it wasn't healed which I already knew and wouldn't heal if I just kept sticking random objects in it, which I wasn't. First reckless college decision: belly button piercing! I was so scared walking in, but everyone was so kind and accommodating. Very clean and cleaned every piece of equipment and jewelry right in front of me. I bought some jewelry from here and it was difficult to put in/open so I came back later and asked her for help and she proceeded to have an attitude with me and treated me as if I were stupid for not knowing how to use the jewelry she sold to me. She also tried to make me pay for more jewelry since I told her the jewelry that I literally bought 2 hours before wasn't working for me. Let me start by saying this is 100% a tattoo shop for college kids. Came in today with some friends that were getting a tattoo. I have 3 tattoos and from what I saw today I wouldn't let them touch me with a tattoo gun. First of all, instead of helping my friend draw something out, they were sent to a touch screen computer to type out the font and text they wanted, then once they decided the tattoo "artist" said he could do the text my friend picked but he wouldn't be able to go as small as she wanted (in my opinion it wasn't a difficult script so I don't understand what would have been the issue) but anyways, that was fine when her so she went ahead with it. Once he got her stenciled he took a smoke break (at least the second since we had been there) he came back about 10 minutes later, did the tattoo (which look less than 10 minutes total) then went back out to smoke again before doing my other friends. Again, Stenciled him and took a smoke break. They got basically the same tattoo, just different font and we were there almost 2 hours, no one in front of us. Ridiculous. From what I saw no one in the shop seemed excited about tattooing or really showed any talent in what they had to offer (just by over hearing others conversations with their artist). My friends tattoos looked fine and they are happy with them which is what matters, but personally, I won't be going to them. I went here 4 months ago to get a piercing and my original piercer was a little snippy but I just figured she had a long day, she made me wait 15 minutes so she could go smoke but I blew it off and continued with the piercing, I was also told there was only one type of earring that can go in my cartilage which I knew was complete bs since I have other cartilage piercings with studs so the lady clearly isn't as talented at piercing or just looks for the easy way out, it was cheap compared to any other piercings I've gotten and not as sterile as other piercing shops. I went back in today since it's been very infected since I've gotten it and I've tried everything to get the infection to go away but it won't and a different piercer just told me I had no clue what I was talking about and he's the professional and if I used their specific method to clean it I would have no issues and just frankly talked to me like I was stupid and made a point to make me feel that way. Normally this is my go to spot for quality jewelry at a cheap price. My experience today however, was unfortunate. I was greeted promptly and told the girl working that I wanted to buy a replacement ring for my cartilage; she informed me that the piercer was with someone but would be right with me. Whatever, I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. What I DID mind was that two different girls entered the store after me. Once the piercer was finished, she went over to help one of these girls before me. I tried to say "excuse me ma'am" but I guess she didn't hear me. after waiting another 25 minutes, the piercer went to help the other girl before me AGAIN. Again I said "EXCUSE ME, I've been waiting here longer." And was again ignored. Other employees watched me be ignored knowing I had been waiting longer. At that point I was beyond fed up and left. I ended up waiting 30+ minutes for nothing for something that would've taken 2 minutes to complete. It'll be awhile, if ever, until I cool off enough to come back. Read Less

The WORST shop I have ever been into. No one greeted me at the front, and the person that eventually came up to me was tattooing his own foot and hobbled up with no shoe on and a bloody, unwrapped foot. I came in to get a septum retainer and this person took me back even with his foot STILL bloody and unwrapped. He did wear gloves to insert my retainer into my healed piercing, but dear god I will never set foot in here again. They capitalize on a great location by all the bars and the university and barely spend any money on quality decor, website design, or staff. Their website is an ABSOLUTE graphic design nightmare, like something from the late 90s. The pictures of tattoos and piercings they have posted are mediocre at best, not many photos of HEALED tattoos! Healed tattoos are the BEST way to judge an artists work, as that is when the tattoo has grown into it's most permanent state, with no swelling and the color is true. There is no info for the artists, besides some crap pictures and portfolios, with no detail as to what tattoos or services each artist specializes in. HORRIBLE. Read Less

Very welcoming place and very clean. I got my cartilage pierced somewhere else and they did it completely wrong, the piercer here helped me loosen the backing and informed me they used the wrong type of jewelry. About two months later I came back because my piercing was green and still very tender. The piercer took out, cleaned and changed my jewelry. Overall, very good experience. Absolutely terrible customer service!!!!! I called and checked the hours since it was a holiday and they confirmed they were open until 6pm so I thanked the gentleman on the phone and said we may be in. When we arrived we were the only customers in the shop.... we were asked if we could be helped. I explained that I wanted a nose piercing and the woman behind the counter told me she was closed. I explained to her about the previous conversation I had had with the gentleman on the phone and how far we had driven. She simply told me that yes they were open until 6pm but they stopped taking walk-ins at 5pm and that she would sell me the jewelry but she wasn't opening back up for me. Are you kidding me?!?! Really good, reasonable, fast service! I got my nose pierced by the nice gentleman with glasses. He was very gentle and finished in 5 minutes! I cleaned the piercing twice a day with bactine (for just the first week and swelling), and then i switched to the sea salt soak. It's healed beautifully so far! I've had great piercing experiences multiple times here before so I was shocked by my last visit. The night of a friends birthday he wanted to get his very first tattoo so I suggested mystic marks. We arrived and right off the bat they didn't seem happy to help us and then argued about who would be doing the tattoo. The artist who finally said he would do it, told my friend flat out that they wouldn't give him the tattoo and that It was a bad tattoo in general. Detailed version: I was referred to MMTC by a number of ppl specifically for Dave. But open to whoever would best suit my need *detailed filigree/partial cover-up* Hoyt was the only one in so I spoke to him about what I was looking for, he pulled up the artists portfolios on their kiosk so I could decide who to move forward with. Dave was the guy. After o...ur initial meeting he went to work. He was very responsive and we collaborated to come up with my piece. I came in for the first session and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. I left a lot up to the professional while he laid out options for me to choose from throughout our session. I got my cartilage done at another place and 8 weeks later found myself unable to get the earring unscrewed. I went to MM and the piercer had to use pliers to remove it. She explained it as done crooked and would need to heal & be repierced. She was nice, informative, and she didn't charge me for that trip. I went back to get it repierced 3 weeks later (in a slightly different spot on my ear). I had to wait awhile because there was only one piercer and a few people ahead of me, but they had a comfortable couch and lots of tattoo designs and jewelry to keep me occupied. The piercing was only $25, which would have worried me when I got my cartilage done the first time, but I learned from my original piercing that paying a lot doesn't mean a better job. The girl was nice and fast. She showed me that everything was sterilized and the needle came in a sealed package. Honestly, I would have paid more for my piercing because it was a good experience, so I made sure to tip the her well. The only thing is she told me to use bactine 2x a day, but that's a very drying antiseptic wash so I only use it once a day and a sea salt & distilled water spray throughout the day. So far so good! Got my wrist tattoos i drew there and it was quick easy painless but not much on the respectful side no conversation and no "welcome". They just wanted my money in and out. second time i went in because the tattoo did come out good and didnt have any problem with me bringing in my work and i wanted a tradition style skull eyes and everything and the gentlemen there refused to do it because it wasnt in style. Yesterday I just got my first tattoo, what should have an awesome experience turned to crap. When I went into Mystic Marks Tattoo Co I was given a quote for my tattoo saying "$250 for a 2 hour job." My tattoo was a pretty basic tribal tattoo that i designed myself, which when I went in before only got quoted $150. After it was all said and done I looked down at the time and what was "supposed" to take 2 hours only took 1 hour. When I went to pay I questioned the artist about the charge of the tattoo due to the fact that it did not take 2 hours it only took one and he even confirmed it only took one. He then said "didn't we agree on $250?" I then returned with "you said $250 for a 2 hour job, not a 1 hour job." It then went back and forth for a minute but I finally said forget it and payed. Guys are great! Never pressure you and always seem willing to help with whatever they can. We've had gauge's and tattoo's done and both have been excellent work and service. We started the gauge's here and have been back at least 6 times for those alone. We've had a couple of different piercer's but both were always great. I've been getting tattoos and piercings from Mystic Marks since the day I was legally able to lol so that's about 15 years. I currently have 17 tattoos of pretty relevant size. This shop is by far the best in San Marcos. All artists are passionate about their work and all have amazing talent to bring to the table. I've been tatted by almost all the artists there (past and current) and am proud of every piece I have. Also the shop is in pristine condition following all hygeini...c requirements (unlike Twisted Rabbit...college kids beware!) Being apart of the repeated customers of Mystic Marks is amazing. They're more than a business they're a family. They care about each person who walks through their doors and are prepared to give you a unique quality work of art. The piercers are also amazing with the amount of versatility in options which shows their amount of knowledge and practice. I fully trust them as you can tell...I have piercings everywhere. Also Mystic Marks charges fair prices. I've talked to other shops such as Classic Tattoos, Heart and Soul, Monster Tattoos etc. All other shops jack their prices up insanely high. I initially had gone into a competing shop to discuss a forearm piece, and wasn't happy with their atmosphere. I ended up coming here to Mystic Marks, and I'm so glad that I did! From the moment I walked in, it was a great experience. I talked with Hoyt first, and after listening to my idea for a few minutes, he recommended that I talk to David. I sat down with David and we discussed what I wanted. I was really impressed by how knowledgeable everyone was. They were all very a...ttentive and honest. I paid a deposit and came back about a month later for my session. David is definitely an exceptional artist. He answered all of my questions and asked how I was doing when I got nervous. I got my nose pierced here and my only complaint is that they slipped while piercing my nose and nicked me a little on the way out. Even at that, it wasn't a big deal. I had been to Mystic Marks a few years ago for a tattoo, so when I finally decided to let my daughter get snakebite piercings, that's where I took her. Alyssa did a fabulous job!  She's so professional, worked very hard to make sure the piercings were in exactly the right place. She also does an excellent job preventing cross-contamination; I work in a dental office and am very twitchy about cleanliness and sterilization and I felt very comfortable watching her work on my child. Worst piercing experience of my life. Paid $100 for two piercings that I had to take out one hour later. What was supposed to be a unique and gorgeous piercing turned into an atrocity. My piercings overlapped, were extremely crooked and the spacing was entirely off. I had to go to a shop in San Antonio to get it fixed. Twisted Tattoo did a wonderful job on my bottom belly button! Cons. Saran wrap for tattoo cover afterwards versus a sanitary cover and securing with tape. Blood oozed out from under the wrap in about 2 minutes. I really like Mystic Marks Tattoo Co. I went here to get my spiderbite piercings done and they look great! I believe my piercer's name was Corey, he was super nice with a great sense of humor. I was a little nervous so he made me feel much better and welcome in the shop. After I had my piercing for a month or so, I went back to get different studs for my lip, Mystic Marks charged me $15 for a pair of spider bite studs, while Classic offered to charge me 15 each. So I made my purchase and all was well, a week or so later I was upset because I had lost the feux diamond piece to my lip stud, I went back to the shop expecting to pay for a whole new stud altogether but they even had a replacement for the small piece I lost! They didn't charge me anything. I was very satisfied and will go back for all of my piercing needs. I have yet to get any tattoos from Mystic Marks but will consider it when I decide. It would be a hard decision since I have heard many great things of Morgan from Classic Tattoo, but the portfolio's at Mystic Marks show a lot of talent there as well. Read Less

Came here because Classic Tattoo was booked, and I was not disappointed. The place seems intimidating/unfriendly when you first step in, but the tattoo artist I had, Hoyt, was kind and adjusted the design to my liking. I got a foot tattoo, and it came out very clean and elegant! Hoyt gave me clear instructions on how to take care of the tattoo for the next month, and I felt very comfortable throughout the entire process. I found Luke alive and well, like three blocks away at a beautiful, clean, well lit shop, Body Expressions. He was very friendly and took my ideas and turned them into an awesome tattoo that I love! Luke at mystic marks is hands down the way to go if you are planning on getting any kind of ink. I originaly gave him a vague description of what i was looking for and told him to put his own artistic touch on it. What he came up with was more then anything I ever expected. He is really flexible as far as appointments go, proffesional, and is very meticulous when it comes to after care and cleanliness. I just got my very first tattoo. I was incredibly nervous, but Luke made the experience a truly lovely one. Luke is obviously very talented, and did an excellent job on my work, but he was also extremely accomodating, kind, professional, and reassuring. He proved to be a very calming, but capable presence which made the experience every bit as memorable and special as I had hoped. He went out of his way to ensure that the art translated perfectly from my mind to my body. He customized my tattoo and gave it life...He is not only a talented artist he's a great guy. Luke is someone who made me feel comfortable during the entire ""tattoo experience"" and was so easy to communicate with. He listened carefully to me during my consultation, and then carefully customized a design that suited my needs. He certainly is customer oriented, and professional. Luke is hands down one of the most talented artists Ive ever seen! he was so helpful when i had questions and showed me what to do. he's got really awesome work, the tattoo didn't hurt at all! he's a really cool guy and super helpful. he was very enthused about doing the tattoo and didn't judge my choice in what i picked. overall cool guy, i loved his work, and very friendly i think Ive found my tattoo artist I'm gonna stick with. id recommend him to everyone! if your in San Marcos get your tattoo done by him! So, I came in with my bestie wanting a new tattoo. We had already decided that we were going to get matching tattoos, that they would be henna style, and it would be on the foot. Wasnt sure about the design, but gave Luke some ideas about what we wanted, and he created something even better than i imagined. I was in pain most of the time, and I kept telling Luke how much I hated him, but its one of the best tattoos that ive seen or gotten. Luke is absolutely amazing. Light hand, gives great encouragement, great artist. The foot is probably the most painful place to get a tattoo because of the bones being so close to the skin, especially shading if you get it, but he was efficient and precise. Thanks Luke! Went here to get my first tattoo (Rebel Alliance Insignia from Star Wars) While my girl got this cute music note. The Place is decent sized, and the people here are very chill, Bryan did our tattoos. Went there again with my friends and i believe a guy named Jason did theirs. (Misfits logo, and a Star of david) They all came out very well! I've gotten my belly button and two rooks (which the piercer had never done before) done at this place, and both experiences were prettttty good. I felt the littlest amount of pain possible, and none of the piercings have gotten infected. They give you this little box of medicated Q-tips, 5$ for like a pack of, uh, like, 30? more or less, it's a great deal and a great place to go! Read Less

I went to Mystic Marks last night to get my lip repierced. The place i had gotten it before I thought was clean, friendly, and informative. Not until last night did I realize how bad the last place was. Mystic Marks is a great place to go. The people there are very nice, and the facility is clean and decorative. I felt very comfortable, and the guy who did my piercing explained everything to me, and gave me very specific instructions for care of my lip ring. He knew so much about piercing. Had several friends and myself go to this place and was met by a very unusual person. Her idea's were from another time and place and did not feel comfortable with speaking to her. Was hoping for a professional artist view point but only received a history lesson , that had nothing to do with visit and it needed to stay in the history books ( reason it is titled history). Would prefer a actual artist who had realistic views and a actual professional contribution to ink art. Would suggest Austin as a more reliable and directed resource. Read Less
