So, at age 42 I decided it was time to get my first ink. This was influenced by my wife Mary, who has had her dolphins on her shoulder for years, and my BFF Randi who was amused that I used to have a "stick up my butt" about body art. Having mellowed in my old age, she told me to carefully consider what I wanted for a year and a day before committing to a permanent decoration. I'm a huge geek, so I thought about several things that could sum me up in a tattoo- but the sing...le thing that represents who I am at my core since I was 11 in 1986 has been being a tabletop gamer. I can trace that back to the summer of '86 and the 1983 Dungeons & Dragons Basic and Expert boxed sets. So, the choice was made - the dragon ampersand from the D&D logo of that era. My friends were polled, and five suggestions out of about fifteen were DC Tatts in Round Rock, so that was the first place we went on my birthday. We walked in and were greeted in an incredibly friendly manner. One of the owners, Don, explained the process, looked at my design, and told me he could do it right then and there. Well, no time like the present. We were offered soda or water, the selection of music, and made to feel very laid back and comfortable. The tattoo itself was nowhere near as "bad" as some friends have said it would be. Don was professional, friendly, and deft with his tools. The final result looks like it could be a professionally printed icon on a book cover- the lines are crisp and clean. It came out perfectly. Then came the advice on how to take care of it as it heals, which was explained clearly and surely. My experience with my first ink was awesome. Having seen the more complicated work done here - ,mine was a simple black logo design - I can say with all confidence that folks looking for ink in Round Rock should check out DC. They have a number of artists whose work is pretty incredible. Yeah... I may be back. See More Read Less
