I had a great experience! I found Virtue Tattoo on Instagram when I was trying to find piercing studios in Houston with more/fancier earring choices. I went in without an appointment and was promptly assisted by Tim who was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable . Spontaneously got my tragus peirced today. I did a lot of research for months about where to go and what I wanted, just in case. So walking in after work today was an easy decision. Tim is the guy for anyone who is looking to get a peircing. He was super nice and extremely professional. Once I picked out what I wanted to get he took me in the room to show me how everything would be sterilized.Once everything was sterilized (which took about 5 mins) I went back into the room and the entire procedure was actually pretty quick. Just got my first piercing done here and I have absolutely no complaints. If you're going to get a piercing, I highly recommend Virtue. Tim was very kind, patient, and you could definitely tell he enjoys his job! The whole experience was super fun. Minimal pain and we laughed the whole time! The shop is very clean and welcoming. This is my go to place for piercings! They have a nice selection of gold and silver. Tim is the one that does the piercings, and he's very professional. I have never had a bad experience coming here. I have gotten piercings here and I love how they walk you through the sterilization process (I have not seen in any other tattoo parlor) on top of that they accept debit cards which is pretty awesome! I have driven by this shop forever, and read the great reviews. I was a walk in today. I just wanted a simple tiny tattoo. I showed Nate several ideas i had, and we agreed on a price and ascetic for my tiny unicorn. I liked how he took the photo I had, and made it "his own" it's so cute and tiny!This place is very clean. Very fair priced (I have been to several Tattoo places one other in Houston and a few over the country - and this is very very fair pricing I will say! Tim is super friendly and the rest of the staff I saw seemed serious but really into their craft. This was unlike any other tattoo experience I have had. I have multiple tattoos, and have never been denied my friend to be with me. He mentioned "would you let someone in the OR?"    Please do not compare this to surgery.  (I am an OR nurse).  Not to mention the fact, he would not give me the color I wanted. I understand that black is the best color for an outline, but that is not what I wanted. He refused to do any other color, when I said I did not want to do it, he charge me $60 cancellation fee. I had my nips pierced in San Francisco 2 years ago and they just never healed right so I took them out 8 months ago. Today, I went to Tim to get re-pierced. The staff here are just friendly and welcoming and I felt at ease especially cause I was pretty nervous about the scar tissue from my old piercings. So Tim first evaluated where I was previously pierced and he took me to the back to get started. He used the auto-clave to sterilize everything and talked me through EVERYTHING he was doing. He even asked me what jewelry I preferred (barbell vs ring). When it came to be pierced, it went really well! I highly recommend coming here if you want a piercing done right! I had my nose pierced by Tim for my birthday years ago.. it was handled professionally and everything was very clean. He immediately made me feel at ease and talked to me through the procedure. He has a great steady hand and a good eye for placement. Ok, so I went to Virtue Tattoo in 2011 (yeah, just now reviewing!) I'm thinking it was Tim that helped me from the start, pierced my tongue & navel.. What an awesome job, both visits! A couple days ago, I went in to get my tragus pierced I selected my jewelry and was told that my total with the jewelry was $95. I didn't question it and figured the piercing cost around $50 and my jewelry (stainless steel Swarovski crystal) was another $45. Not bad in my mind (honestly not sure how much that piece of jewelry should cost me). I noticed that placement of my piercing was incorrect as I could still see the mark that was made to show me the placement of the piercing. I went in to get the piercing removed as I was not happy. No apologies. Tim made some lame excuse about the jewelry being large and that's why the piercing needed to be pushed out a little. Not cool. He told me he would take it out but it would cost me $30 to pierce it again. While he removed the jewelry I inquired about the price of the jewelry. He said it was $75 for the jewelry, which made the piercing cost $20. So why would it cost me $30 to re-pierce? I didn't put two and two together while at the shop. Oh well. For those that want to try this place, please get a quote on the piercing with the standard jewelry first, and then if you wish to purchase a different jewelry, then ask about the prices of the jewelry separately. So Matt Bergdorf is about the coolest tattoo artist I have met yet. Sent a friend in and she gave him rave reviews, so I went in as well with a design I had wanted to get for a long time. Ended up looking amazing!!! He told me we could take as many breaks as I needed (although I only took 1). I am an artist and I can tell you, this guy has stupid steady hands and is a fantastic artist.Not to mention you can literally eat off the floors there. I see there are a couple of bad reviews on this board but the all call out one particular dude. GO SEE MATT. I went in for a consultation with "Neil" showed him the exact art work I wanted and gave him an example of the work.  I gave him a deposit and set an appointment to return.  Upon my arrival for my appointment he was not ready for me and was still working on my art (He had two days to work on my piece and was just trying to throw something together before I got there).  After waiting 20 minutes he came over and showed it to me and it wasn't even close to what I requested that he said he could complete. VERY POOR WORK!! I said no problem just refund my deposit since you cannot complete the work you claimed you could preform.  To which "Neil" said he was not going to refund my money as he had invested his time in the project. Everything was explained and they put all tools and jewelry in autoclave in front of me, which is cool, cause you never know if they actually did it at other places. My daughter and I went today to get matching tattoos that she designed. It was such a great experience. The place is clean and well kept, and our tattoo artist (Matt) did a fantastic job of drawing out our design. We love our new tattoos, Matt. Plus, they don't mess around! If you are a minor and think you're gonna go in and get a piercing or tattoo without a parent pesent, forget it! We witnessed them turn a couple of teens around because they didn't have a parent or guardian with them. Great work ethic. :) Will definitely be back. I came in one day asking about a certain tattoo I wanted (i had two planned and this was one of them). Nate helped me out with my questions and gave an estimate of $60 for a small piece on my ankle. He answered any questions I had about pricing of tattoos and piercings there and was overall really sweet. I came in just recently wanting to get the other tattoo done. This one was just small wording that i wanted on my him. A different guy, not Nate, told me it'd be about $80. I had my first tatt done for $80 and it was a much more complicated piece, so I told him it didn't seem like a fair pricing. He then rudely told me to just go somewhere else then and I did. My first tattoo was done at Houston Ink Society in Montrose and that was an amazing experience. They were closed that day though, so I stopped by 713 Tattoo Parlor instead and they did the exact same tattoo for only $60 and were 100 times friendlier.Overall, Virtue may have great reviews, but they are overpriced and not worth it. There are better places in my opinion. 2 stars because Nate was a sweetheart unlike his co-worker. Read Less

Nate is seriously one of the most professional and amazing tattoo artists I've ever worked with. He helped me with the many questions I had for my tattoo and I felt very confident with his help on how it was going to turn out. The tattoo process itself went very smoothly. I got done a simple phrase, "And though she be but little she is fierce" right under my left collar bone. Nate was very good with his pace and with his inking pressure. I was never uncomfortable. He answered all of my questions (I'm naturally a curious person so I talk a bit) with ease and friendliness. I am very proud to say I have finally found a place where I feel comfortable coming back to (besides this one, I have two other tattoos). Getting a piercing can be a big decision for some and just an ordinary thing for others. No matter how many piercings you have, be it two to twenty and wherever they may be, there are some very important aspects to consider before getting stuck. Cleanliness is the most important, highest requirement. Sterility in tools, work space, the staff member who is handling the piercing and the jewel you choose for your piercing are all the main priorities. Who wants an infection? No one.Another aspect is being welcomed in a friendly manner. Some may be nervous while others are not. Some may know what they want while others are indecisive. In any case, this is a type of venue that must have good customer skills.At Virtue Tattoo, Tim was very friendly in welcoming us and helpful in explaining what would be done and showing the available jewels for piercings. He then gave a "tour" of the private room where the piercing would take place. He also showed us how the tools were sterilized and let us see him placing them into the autoclave. It was during the wait time for sterilization that the jewelry types were shown and chosen, proper care was explained and a complete list of after-care do's and don'ts was read and signed once all was understood. It is important to note that you should pick jewelry that you will be happy with. Piercings, of course, take time to heal and you will be wearing these for the whole healing process. Depending on the healing time you may be wearing this jewelry for up to 9 months. You want to pick a jewelry you truly find beautiful and will not tire of.Tim's piercing manner was relaxed and easy-going and he took his work seriously. The procedure was quick and not so terribly painful (it was much like a stronger feel of a shot at the doctor's office). The result was excellent and carefully following of the after-care steps have made the healing problem free.I can only speak for the piercings at Virtue Tattoo and of that I can say the whole experience was very good from beginning to end. My wife and I decided to get matching feather tattoos. We arrived an hour before closing and Matt stayed until he finished us both. The staff was very courteous and professional. The place is in a strip center on West Airport just down from the Denny's near 59. When we showed the artist, Matt, our desired drawing, he printed it out and was able to reproduce it better than the original. For mine, he added some script that turned out beautiful. Nate fixed my husbands tattoo. My husband originally got a tattoo across his chest on a drunken night by a friend. I thought it was horrible and unfixable, but Nate, not only fixed it, but he completely transformed it into a really awesome piece. He's shading is awesome! It seems this place is a hit or miss depending on which "artist" happens to be there. Well, even if that is the case, Virtue Tattoo, you need to realize that certain people you have at your shop are turning customers off big time!I too, had a bad experience with Nate, just yesterday. Went in to explain my idea and get a quote. His attitude is very disinterested, like he could care less. I explained to him my idea and he tried to tell me it wouldn't fit! Um, HELLO?! Isn't that what sizing is for???? You can take ANY design and size it down with a simple copy machine to make it fit wherever you want. This is NOT my first tattoo, therefore I am not an idiot and know it can be done. Then, after I had to insist to him that we could make it fit, he quoted me $150!!!!! All I want is a simple ankle bracelet design, in plain black around my ankle and you are telling me $150???? HAHAHAHAH, I think not! Crazy. Long story short, I went to Virtue for my first body piercing (navel) and had an awesome experience! I walked in around 7PM on a Friday with two friends. The shop was not too busy but the atmosphere was calm, not lethargic. The walls were covered with designs and quirky, clean decor that made the shop much more lively and not at all sketchy. Initially, no one was at the front but upon entry, Tim swiftly came to the front and greeted us. I explained what I wanted, picked out which jewelry I would use post-piercing and signed my consent form. While I was signing the form, Tim went to the back to place his tools and the jewelry I chose on an autoclave cassette. After I was finished, he took all three of us to the piercing room and explained how the autoclave worked and showed us exactly what tools would be sterilized. I very much appreciated this step. The cassette went into the autoclave for about six minutes while we waited in the lobby, reading over the aftercare instructions then provided by Tim, then proceeded to the piercing room. The piercing room was just the right size to be comforting. I loved the personality that showed throughout the place. Tim's certificates were displayed proudly, which is great! The procedure was done swiftly, with Tim explaining each item and its role before using each. I was very impressed that Tim did not need to use a clamp to pierce my navel. His years and years of experience shows in his work. Again, the procedure was done in just a few seconds. It was virtually painless for me as I was able to stay calm. This sounds crazy, but I would do it again!Overall, great experience. I only met Tim but he helped us out a lot and got us out of Virtue in a snap. Horrible service. Nate was very uninterested...and was yawning every five minutes. As if that wasnt enough, it was my first tattoo and I was told that my boyfriend could not come back to sit with me. He told me my small ankle tattoo would be $150...WITHOUT COLOR. I ended up going to Imperial Tattoo and the service there was so much more friendly. Night and day. That same tattoo, they only charged $100 and that was WITH COLOR. You want great service and a great tattoo? Go to Imperial Tattoo, not Virtue.And lastly, they claimed to be open seven days a week from noon to ten....well than. They were closed before 8pm sunday. I know because that's when I dropped in. I went here the week after my birthday. I got my first tattoo. I was super excited. The guy I had was very nice and I feel so bad that his name doesn't strike a bell in my mind. He told me about his Asian fiancé, because I'm Asian also. He got me through my first tattoo because I was super nervous. Luckily, my sister who has gotten tats before, was there with me but unfortunately, Nate (who was the guy who did her tattoo) got very irritated with her easily because she kept resizing her triangle. While my experience was pretty good, hers wasn't. I also got a belly piercing done by the owner, Tim. He was really sweet and was very patient because I am naturally a spazzy person when it comes to needles. Of course, he showed the whole process of sanitizing and etc. I would have gave it 4 stars but the customer service that my sister endured was terrible. She even told him after the tattoo to be more patient. 2 days later, I went to go pick up my necklace that I accidentally left there. Nate told me to wait 10 minutes so he can finish up the tattoo. Fine, okay. Whatever. But ten minutes became half an hour. I kept asking him, and he talked to me like I was a 5 year old. I just want my necklace and get going. I understand you are with a customer but don't tell me a certain time and then keep telling me to wait. I see the necklace right on the table, just laying there. This is a very nice shop. A lot of flash decorating the walls is awesome to look at. Don't take a picture of anything though. I guess they don't take too kindly to that. All I wanted was to post a picture on Instagram. In retrospect I should've asked first.The artist who help me was pretty cool. The type of guy you'd expect to work at a place like this. He wasn't super friendly but at the same time wasn't rude. Again, kinda what you would expect. I don't remember the artist name, as I'm a bit introverted and terrible at making small talk and Introductions.The actual process of getting the tattoo wasn't terrible. Only painful, but in a good way. He really knew what he was doing. Made sure the stencil was lined up evenly. They didn't offer any lotion or cleaner to me before I left. Luckily I have some from the last tattoo I got in February. They didn't review proper cleaning procedures with me. All they have me was a piece of paper with instructions on it.Check out this shop, especially if you're a local. With me being from out of town, I felt a little unwelcome. VERY DISSAPOINTED. I went to this place because it was close to work and had good reviews. I have a tragus piercing that I needed to get a new ear ring. The last one I had was not the normal type you would get with this kind of piercing; it was just a hook on the back. So, I came here and discussed all this with them, looked at what they had and decided on an earring. They said they would put it in for me as I wouldn?t be able to do it myself, ok I thought. They went through the process of sterilizing the ear ring and I was very pleased with all that, seemed very clean. After that when he went to put the ear ring in it took longer and hurt more than it did when I originally got it pierced. After it was over I went up to pay and he said it would be $80? $80?!?! When I was looking at the ear rings he said it was $20, now I realize that price was just for the ear ring. I only paid $60 when I originally got it done. This is what they charge to do this piercing and I ALREADY have it pierced! I didn?t say much as I felt like this was partly my fault and decided I should have asked complete total prior so I went ahead and paid. Then, one week and 1 day later the piercing fell out. The whole purpose of getting this earring was that they said it would not move around or fall out easily if at ever. I went back to the shop the next day and told them what happened. He said they could put another one in. After my last lesson here I asked how much because they had charged me $80 before and it lasted a whole week and I wasn?t pleased considering how much it was and that it fell out a week later. He said he would have to charge me. I was very irritated and said no. I ended up going to a different place and they only charged me $18 and put it in for me! Note, this was not the place I originally got it done at either! I?m sure they do great tattoo work as all the reviews are very positive but I unfortunately can not recommend this place and feel like they do not stand behind their work. Virtue Tattoo is the best shop I have been to. I have been to the most notable tattoo shop in town and they cannot even compare to Virtue Tattoo. They are extremely clean, courteous, caring and just down right AWESOME at Virtue. Everyone in the shop is great. They make you feel welcome and not just another nameless person wanting work done. I have had 6 piercings done by Tim. The piercing room is extremely hygienic and there are no windows in the piercing room walls. The total privacy that gives helps to stay relaxed. Tim also cares about his customers well being more than the amount of money he will make. After my 6th piercing I was planning on my 7th and 8th when Tim told me that he would not do anymore piercings until all of the previous 6 had healed. About 1 more week until Tim will do my 2 new ones!! So far I have had 2 tattoos done by Lana. The tattoo that she drew and put on my foot is my favorite yet. I have 5 others that have been done around Texas and she is by far the best. Lana takes to extra time to make sure that you are positively relaxed and happy with the work done. Lana has done several tats on me and Tim has pierced me...Not only are they extraordinary at what they do, they are absolutely amazing people. There were never any awkward moments...and I didn't feel like I had to have a friend with me to talk to because as soon as you walk in the door all the employees are your friend. It's like your at home (only cleaner) hangin with friends you've known for years. The shop is a mix of O.R. cleanliness and museum worthy artwork. You can tell they put a lot of thought into everything all the way down to the lights. And what other tat shop have you been to where the the art is actually framed rather than in clustered together in a bunch of swingin poster frames? All this tells me, they love what they do. Lana is an exceptional artist-she can take a plain jane idea and turn it into something you would never have imagined! It's incredible. On the other hand, if you show her exactly what you want she'll do that too. no questions asked. And I know its difficult not to make things better when you're an artist. :-) I live in San Antonio so when I want some work done, I hop in my car, book one of the cheap hotels right down the street and go straight to the shop. Oh!!! and they even have filtered water for their patrons! How freakin cool AND eco-friendly is that?!!! All-in-all: I'll never go anywhere else, no matter where I live. Right when I walk in I felt welcome. These people make you feel at home. They were friendly, and professional, everything was clean and sanitary. Lana did a great job on my tattoo, it turned out GREAT exactly what i had in mind.
