Getting a tattoo has been on my list from so many years now but for one reason or another it was getting delayed. Yesterday i got one!! I saw this place on yelp with lot of pictures from clients of their beautiful tattoos by various artists. I was really impressed and chose this place for my first ever tattoo. I wanted a simple and plain design (that I already had with me) on the nape. Junior saw the picture and estimated an hour's work and 60$. I decided on a whim to get my first tattoo on a Saturday night. I called ahead and the front desk said they would be able to work me in. This shop is very clean and the staff is very personable. My tattoo artist was Marco and he was AMAZING. He spent some time with me on the front end and asked me a lot of questions about what I wanted. He was able to draw something up quickly and checked to make sure it was what I wanted before beginning. He eased all my first-time concerns and gave me the confidence to go through with it. I was tattooed by Dewayne. The tattoo I got was straight forward and simple. Two weeks later it's nowhere close to healed and it's apparent that he tattooed me way to deep leaving nothing but a scar. After paying and signing paperwork I then went to his booth and sat down. Before he began tattooing me another guy came in to use his printer (which prints stencils). This guy was a jerk and interrupted us for at least 30 mins. This shop also reps Christianity. So, if you want to be disrespected by a bunch of Christian tattoo artists who rep Christianity, and don't make their own stencils, this is the place to go.To further update my review the stencil which was being printed was a massive and beautiful lion. It would have taken a real tattoo artist hours to trace it and create a handmade stencil. To add insult to injury the shop manager (whose comment I ignored) commented on my post. To add even more insult to injury I was also privately messaged by a James B (I have no idea who that is). The message was as follows:"Dwayne is a nice guy for helping me with a brand new method for tattoo stencils. Asking for him to help doesnt make me a jerk... as for the Christian thing and disrespecting you...thats a stretch. Id be more than happy to help you out give ya a free session in exchange of you changing your yelp review. My sister recently visited for several days, one of those being her birthday. She wanted to get matching tattoos, so to Yelp I went! Boss Frog had numerous 5-star reviews, and after reading them and evaluating other options we decided to go here. You can drop in, but it's probably better to make an appointment. We made appointments with Buster, who's a wonderful guy. He printed the stencils, did my sister's first, then mine. They look great! You kind of need to know where you are going to find this place. It's in a strip shopping center across from Mckinney Trade Days. I'm 40 and have never had a tattoo before. Being that is was my first, I was super nervous. I've had the tattoo I wanted picked out for awhile, I just needed to work up the courage to get it. Chris, my tattoo artist was friendly and talkative. His demeanor really put me at ease. He had me spell check my tattoo several times before he started. The thing that surprised me the most is that it didn't hurt. I would have thought a tattoo on your wrist would be excruciating, but no it wasn't at all.They give you great instructions on how to keep is clean and prevent it getting infected. I was looking for a tattoo shop in the area since we just moved to McKinney and was so happy to find that Boss Frog was not only SUPER close, but also was the highest-rated shop in the area. I didn't specify the artist I wanted to work with but got assigned to Duane and I'm glad I did! I have gone back to see Duane three times now, and will certainly be back for more. He has a great eye for aesthetics and will work with you to design the tattoo you are looking for. He takes his time getting te design right before he starts and that's something that I appreciate it. I would recommend working with Duane if you are looking for someone who is not only a talented artist, but also a genuinely cool guy to talk to about a variety of topics to keep your mind occupied from the pain! Okay so lets just say... for a first tattoo this place was amazing. Dusty did mine and I was so happy with the way it turned out. As soon as we walked in (which was even a little earlier than they were open) but they were so welcoming and made me feel really comfortable. I got my rook pierced here, I didn't catch the guys name, but he was great! I've never had my cartilage pierced before so I was very nervous, but he kept reassuring me that it would be fine. First he sanitized his station and cleaned my ear. Then he marked where I would get it and let me check and see if I liked the positioning. Then he pierced it. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I was still expecting some pain. When he put in the needle it literally felt like someone was just squeezing my ear, hardly hurt at all! Afterwards, he recommended a soap I could buy at the shop to clean my ear and gave me a care sheet. He did a really great job. I would definitely recommend going here for piercings. I also got a tattoo here done by Julien. I was kind of hesitant about getting it done because it was a very bright and vibrant tattoo, and I know some tattoo shops don't do that. But, Julien was very nice and let me pick the colors and double-checked if I liked the placement. So, once again, I would definitely recommend going here for tattoos! Read Less

20, 5-star reviews, you would almost think they are reviewing themselves.  But after having a tattoo done at Boss Frog's and my wife having 2 recolored I totally understand the reviews.I'm 56 and never had any kind of tattoo before, it's not that I don't like them, it's that I had not found anything I wanted on my body the rest of my life.  I found a cross online that I fell in love with immediately, it was different than other crosses, less stuffy if you will.  My wife and I stopped by Boss Frogs after a friend suggested them (he has his wife's name tattooed as his wedding ring).  Anyway, we walked in and the place was clean and welcoming.  It had the feel and look of a tattoo parlor but not seedy (too many tv shows) at all.  We talked to the people at the desk and Star was able to work my wife in that night to recolor her tattoos.  I was able to watch and found it interesting.I scheduled my appointment (Star is busy) two weeks later and I am not disappointed in the results.  She recreated the picture of the cross onto my leg, as an artist she even made a couple of suggestions and I think it turned out great.My wife has two, one she had done in Deep Ellum and one done in Tampa, FL.  Both were older and the dolphin on her foot never was colored.  Star recolored the yellow rose and it looks wonderful, but the dolphin is what is amazing.  She was able to take an ok tattoo and make it a "Wow" tattoo.  The colors and definition if the tattoo was better than anything I imagined.Remember this is from a guy who only had one tattoo so I can't really comment on the price except to say I thought it was very reasonable.  If you are looking to get some ink in the McKinney area you should at least stop in and talk with Boss Frogs. I could hear artists working and chatting with clients, laughing and having a good time. Rob was extremely welcoming, letting me know that Jr. Was finishing up a client and would then come and talk to me about my design. My wait wasn't long at all, and I was ready to go back and get started. Jr.'s portfolio was super impressive, so I was pretty stoked. We got back there, exchanged names, the usual. What followed was hands down THE BEST tattooing experience I have ever had in my life. As you can tell by this review, I am quite the talker. Jr. didn't once act like I was getting on his nerves, or that he was just there to tattoo and send me on the way. The entire time we chatted, and he seemed actually interested in what I had to say. Mando came in and was talking to Jr. while he was doing my shading. Now I have been in shops before (last week, actually) where people come into the room to talk to the artist and just completely ignore the fact that there is a person sitting in the chair. Not at Boss Frog. Mando was just as friendly to me as Jr. and Rob were. I left with some amazing ink and a great experience. I have walked into shops and walked out because of the unfriendliness of some of the artists. I can tell you, I will definitely be making the two hour drive to McKinney just to come back to this shop. I have never felt more welcome or comfortable. I cannot stress enough the positive and professional attitude of the artists here. I am so, so glad I chose Boss Frog for my work. It's been a breeze working with Boss Frog.  The dude that runs the front desk is professional and polite.  The facilities are clean and inviting.My artist was Marco.  He did a remarkable job on my foo dog tattoo -- I'll post a pic once he finishes it on 4/1/17.  Marco's a really cool, nice guy.  Easy to talk to.  Great listener.  His prices are totally reasonable.  Best part is that he's not a big small-talker.  It bugs me when artists are pestering me about my life story while they're working.  He does his thing and I let him concentrate: it's the exact working relationship I'm looking for in an artist.UPDATE: I met with Marco for my second sit on 4/1. Here's how the pricing worked: on the first meeting Marco gave me a quote based on a 5-hour estimate. Instead of rushing to finish in five hours, he worked on me for SIX hours ... not including the hour he spent on sketching, making stencils, etc., and didn't charge me any extra. He told me to come back in two weeks because he had an estimated three more hours of work to do. I told him that I appreciated the extra time he spent to get it just right and that I wouldn't hold him to his initial quote.Two weeks later I came back and he put in another three hours of work, but he still wasn't satisfied so he told me to come back in three weeks for one more hour to "tighten things up." I agreed and asked him how much I owed him. He smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said, "You don't owe me anything, man. I stand by my quotes. This thing is taking me a lot longer than I expected, so this has been a learning experience for me." So when it's all said and done, I'll have a 10-hour tattoo for a 5-hour tattoo price. Let that set in. I was willing -- eager even -- to throw hundreds of dollars at the guy, but his principles prohibited him from reneging on the price we agreed upon.  How's that for character?I'll be back toward the end of the month to finish this beast up and you better believe I'll be back from this point forward whenever I need fresh ink. I made a reservation on Friday the 13th with Marco, and had sent him a pic of a tattoo I wanted to get done but with some color. He sent back a sketch, and we modified it a bit, and then it was time. He did a fantastic job, and 30 minutes under what he thought it would take. The tattoo came out great and very 3d'ish, and has already begun healing after 4 days. The store and staff are great, and Mel is always awesome with every customer. This is my 2nd time (3rd tattoo) from Boss Frog and won't go anywhere else. I had some work done by Dexter yesterday. I have some big tribal designs that he's going to completely rework for me. I showed him some photos of some ideas of what I was looking for. Boy, he did not disappoint! He let me know that he didn't have a lot of experience with what I wanted done. I just told him "let's experiment!" And off he went. First, let me say, that when he put the needle to the skin, I literally asked him, "Is that typically how hard you push down?" Because I barely felt it at all!! He has great technique and I knew it was going to turn out great! It turned out way better than we both anticipated! LOL I have a half sleeve on left arm, full sleeve on right. It's a lot of ink. Absolutely love this place! Dexter has been the best tattoo artist I've ever had. He came in on his day off to do my tattoo since I have such a busy work schedule. We were visiting relatives and decided on a Saturday night that we all needed tattoos.  We called on Sunday right as they opened and they told all 4 of us to come on in.  They worked all of us in without an appointment, even though 3 of the 4 tattoos were pretty intricate and very time consuming.  Everyone there was very nice and accommodating, and most importantly, the artwork was BEAUTIFUL! Everyone of these artist bring a style of there own to the table. Mel, Chris, are the guys I know. I know there are more artist now, but these guys know what they are doing. Chris did a revamp on my shoulder piece and will go back to put color in it. It hasn't looked this good since I got it. With a fantastic atmosphere and great artist, this is the place to go. Okay so this review is on Vance hes a new artist full of potientlal he stole me away from my old artist with the way he is he's a great guy and when he tattoos it doesn't hurt and he tattood my foot I love the place however the artist Dexter is a little cocky when it comes to his work the one thing I love about Vance is he's down to earth and don't get me wrong Dexter is a great guy and artist u should go to him to but I prefer Vanceepants!!
