I got three tattoos from here, one on my 18th birthday and the other two on my 19th. Both times, they did an amazing job. The place was super clean and professional and I really do recommend it. My friend got double ear piercings, and they were just as good. Not to mention, it was only $45, which is cheaper than other places that use the dreaded piercing gun, such as Claires. The quest for the ideal artist is a personal journey for some. Many factors are involved and it's a crucial choice to make finding one cuz it's never coming off. It was a very important occasion and they scheduled me in last minute with no problems. Jay added his final touch to a design I drafted, and finished with in 10 minutes with out the pain of a heavy hand on a 7mag gun used on my tricep area. They had poor customer service, I told them I previously got a piercing at another shop and used titanium because I have allergies to stainless steel and they said it was impossible that they've been doing this a long time and I basically have no clue what I'm talking about. Went to get a new nose ring switched out from my previous piercing that I had got a couple months prior. The place is super clean and smells clean! They are professional and make u feel comfortable. My first experience with this shop was when I needed help with a nose piercing that was closing up (piercing was done at another shop) and Jason opened my piercing back up & installed the jewelry for me. He was very professional and informative. I then brought my teenage daughter in for a rook piercing & her friend for a nose piercing. Jason & J did the piercings for the girls & really took the time to explain the process to them before the piercings took place. They also gave them great instructions on how to care for & clean their new piercings. The shop is extremely clean & the piercing room is very sterile. I'd highly recommend these guys. Every tattoo I've ever gotten has been from Red (except one). He is always awesome, very funny, and very good at what he does. He always draws up the design exactly how I'd like it, and the tattoo always comes out looking as good as or better than the drawing. He's also incredibly experienced at tattooing, so he gets the job done PERFECTLY and IN GOOD TIMING. He is my go-to tattoo artist, and I always recommend him to everyone I talk to. When you walk into the shop, it smells like a doctor's office, which is quite reassuring about the sanitation of the place. They are very professional there but also very friendly. Amazing! I'm 16, first piercing other than my normal ear one when I was little, so I was really nervous. Got my helix done which is supposedly really painful. So far I have been there three times. First was almost a year ago, got my helix piercing done. The shop is clean, all the sterile items were handled carefully, and I wasn't rushed even though I was nervous and having trouble articulating the specific placement I wanted. The second time was about a week later when the captive bead popped out of the ring when I was changing clothes. I called and was able to go in right away and have a new bead installed even though they were busy. Third time was just yesterday. My husband got the ear piercing he's been wanting and I got another set of piercings in my earlobes, as well as having my helix piercing looked at since it has developed some hypertrophic scarring. Again, the piercings were done well, everyone we interacted with was great, and the advice I got for the scarring was really helpful. A couple of my coworkers will only go to the artists at Black Pearl for their tattoos and piercings, and I can definitely see why. I highly recommend this shop! Read Less

I walked into Black Pearl Tattoo with my sister-in-law for her nose piercing and decided to check out the artist profiles at the shop while I was there. Mr. Mike's work immediately stood out as just insanely talented and I had them draw up a sketch of what I wanted. A few months later (I really wanted to make sure it was what I wanted) they were able to squeeze me in and the lines were very clean and he worked well with me, not too much pressure on my ribs for the most part and he allowed me to take able break halfway through to catch my bearingschedule before finishing up ( I had the SMART idea of doing a long string of lyrics on my right set of ribs as my first tattoo... haha) Overall, the experience was amazing and I always recommend him to my friends or anyone I come in contact with who's thinking about getting a tattoo!! I loved this place since I walked in, great service, super amiable, and clean as well. I thought it'd be pretty expensive since the place looked so nice, but it was actually pretty good pricing. This shop is the cleanest shop i have ever been in. i have had multiple friends that have been tattooed and pierced here.. i will return to the shop but i will not ever talk to the female tattoo artist again. She was incredibly rude and acted like she didn't even want to deal with me. i will recommend the black pearl to friends but i will tell them to talk to one of the other artist not the female. I cannot say enough about this place! A friend and I were visiting from out of town wanting to celebrate our moms with some special ink. Red booked our appts by phone also had me send some ideas via email. He specially designed both our tats and put so much detail, I was speechless. I got a tattoo done by Red the other day and all I can say is I am extremely happy with it. I have had tattoos done at Texas Tattoo Emporium and Texas Body Art and his work puts the tattoos I got at those studios to shame. I brought a picture of what I wanted in the day before and he said no problem and had it sketched up when I went back the next day. He drawing was exactly like what I showed him except for a few improvements he made to it. After he finshed that tattoo, I showed him a tattoo on my back that was supposed to be a lotus flower but instead looked like a blue and orange blob (Texas Tattoo Emoprium) and asked him if he could do anything to fix it. He explaned what he could do to fix it and then drew it on my back and then tattooed it. What a difference! It now looks like a lotus flower. I couldn't have been happier. I am so glad I went to The Black Pearl and if I ever get anything else done this will be the place that I will go. Read Less

I came to this tattoo parlor because of the amazing reviews here and Google and I am not above leaving reviews when I have been treated with courtesy and respect (some people only leave bad reviews). I have a sleeve, a half sleeve, and my family crest on my back and my wife has several discreet tattoos in various places and we have been tattoo enthusiasts for years. I'm 46 and I have been worked on by many artists in my day. This parlor is top notch for cleanness! I was greeted by the owner, who was very friendly and actually acted like he wanted my business. He introduced me to Mrs. Lindsey and I have to say, I thought the phrases ""light hand"" or ""heavy hand"" to be a joke, all tattoos feel the same - location determines pain. Not only that but the shop itself is great, the owner truly cares about the shop and its reputation and how people view the artist working there. I have been working as a contractor in war zones for quite some time and anyone who knows anything about this industry knows we LOVE tattoos. Just about every guy I work with has at a minimum two sleeves and Ive been working on mine. I came across Lindsey at the Black Pearl Tattoo shop in Katy, TX about 7 months ago and let me tell you, the guys I work with know tattoos and they love the work she has done on my arms. Ive gotten tattoos in a lot of different states and from my experience, its usually a pretty quick job which I thought was good because its quick, painless and cheap. As we all know you get what you pay for. Lindsey on the other hand does her work like its going to be on display at the Sistine Chapel before god and everyone. The attention to detail is second to none. Lindsey takes her time and she is smooth and steady. She has already covered three tattoos on me and I can tell you that no one, not even me knows there is something underneath. Ive read a couple of negative reviews on Lindsey's cover up tattoo ability and keep in mind that the person who got the tattoo didnt write it, someone else did. Lindsey has been a close friend of mine since grade school. She tattooed me in Georgia and I've even considered a trip to Houston just to meet her family and get my full back piece done. My uncles and I ride bikes, so I've been around the tattoo industry for a couple of decades now. It's tough, especially for a female artist in a sexist, backstabbing industry full of self-serving artists who perpetuate the negative reputation and stigma that still makes people cringe when someone mentions that they got a tattoo. I am a happy client of The Black Pearl. I have been tattooed by J and Mr.Miike and they do some badass work. I have seen a few tattoos that the female artist has done and they are bad. One was a cover-up and I could not tell what the tattoo was, except for a black blob. The other one I saw was another cover-up she tried to do and I could still see the old tattoo under it. I will keep getting tattooed here and will still refer my friends, but I will warn them to stay away from the female artist. This is still the cleanest shop I have ever been in and the owner and the artist have great customer service. Go by and look at J's and Mr. Miikes books and you will see why they do my work (it is badass). Just remember you can't judge the whole shop by one artist, but you can let people know who to ask for to get the work done right (J or Mr. Miike). Read Less

Went to the shop the week before Christmas. I was sent here by a friend because his tattoos looked very good. I talked to one of the artist named Jim ( had no Hair) and he was a total A**hole. I knew the tattoo I wanted to get but he keep telling me it would not look right. He became very abusive and I got the feeling he did not want to do my tattoo, so I left. I called my friend and he advised he did not know a Jim that worked at this shop, but that his experinces were allways great. I do not want to rip the whole shop because of one person, but if I ever go back it will be with my friend when he returns to houston and I will not deal with Jim. The shop is very nice and clean, so I will still give it three stars. I only suggest if you go here ask for any of the other artist but Jim. I looked at the books of the tattoos done here and they do great work, but with that said, I will not pay an a**hole to do my work, no matter how good he is. Read Less
