I am 54 years old and have never had a tattoo before.  I went in with my 18 year old daughter last night to get my first one. You walk in to a VERY clean shop and very well decorated....not too crazy, but definitely felt like a tattoo shop.  Neil Ritter was amazing. I told him I was nervous and he was very thorough in his explanations, estimation of how long mine would take and he stopped every so often and asked me how I was doing.  He was kind and talented and cared about my comfort.  Everything was sterile and spotless, even while he was working on me.  My daughter''s tattoo was bigger and in a more sensitive spot, but she also had an awesome experience.  I would HIGHLY recommend this shop and Neil. In fact, I might go back for another at some point.The only thing you should know is that if you pay cash, it is a lot cheaper, so bring enough cash with you!Thanks Neil and 3rd Generation Ink for making our first tattoo experience a great one! I brought a friend with me and she said she's been to a few places and 3rd generation was by far the cleanest one. It looked so new. $$- Prices start @ $100 unless you pay cash then they dock it down to $80. Reasonable price. You're paying for the artistry behind the tattoo so $80 is well worth it.Niel was the one who did my tattoo and and I'm so happy with how it came out. I had set an appointment with Bryan a week in advance. My girlfriend & I both took time off of work to make the appointment. We live about an hour & 15 mins away from the shop. We fought though Houston traffic & made it in time for my appointment at 5pm. When we arrived, I was told that Bryan has left for the day and passed the tattoo onto another artist. The artist said that the tattoo I chose was not "tattooable". Then showed me a completely different drawing of something he had came up with. It was most definitely NOT what I wanted. When I asked where Bryan was, another artist said that he didn't know. "I guess he didn't want to make any money today." In my opinion, it was very unprofessional to pass a tattoo off to someone else. Especially after they had requested you to do it; and had been comfirmed it. It was most definitely not the other employees fault. I fell if nothing else he should if at least told me that he wasn't going to be there. He made his co- workers do the dirty work for him. And also had me take a 2 hour and 30 min trip (there & back) for nothing. On a side note I had also shaved my chest for the tattoo that I didn't get. But I'll be getting my tattoos at scorpion studios. I can't speak for the shop, but it was very unprofessional for the individual (Bryan) do handle business in that matter. I walked in off the street yesterday morning (a Sunday) and asked if anyone had time to do a small wrist tattoo for me. Remy said he had an appointment but they were running late and he would see what he could do. He managed to squeeze me in. He did a wonderful job (it was for my daughter and picked out by her, she cried when she saw it) and come to find out he went to school in the area I live in. Small world! This place was amazing. I worked with Remy over a couple of weeks, sending him design ideas that I was looking for. He took them and designed something gorgeous. He was so patient throughout the whole process, answered any questions or concerns I had, and offered advice on the overall tattoo design. I've been here for 2 tattoos. Both of them have been with Neil, his work is great and he's a very accommodating and patient artist! The first time I was being indecisive/picky with the color and he went above and beyond, even mixing two colors to get just the shade I wanted. I would definitely recommend this place. My boyfriend and I got our very first tattoos today here and we are ecstatic! Christian did his and Remy did mine. Both were extremely nice and helpful with it being our first. My boyfriend's is in another language and he brought it typed out already so all Christian had to do was make the stencil and get it done, he was done with his all the way through writhing 30 minutes. Mine took a little longer. Remy used a picture of a real rose he had seen and made my stencil perfect. From when he started actually tattooing mine took an hour. We love our pieces and I will definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a great tattoo parlor! Prices are reasonable and you definitely get what you pay for. Mine was $200 and his $150! Wonderful experience here with Bryan! I was in earlier this week to get my first tattoo. I called ahead and by the time I arrived, Bryan already had some sketches for me. Even though my tattoo was small, Bryan gave me his undivided attention and made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire process. The studio is bright and clean, and not at all scary for someone getting a tattoo for the first time. In fact, when I mentioned this, Byran said "Good, that's what I'm going for!"Minimum tattoo price is $80, and the minimum amount to use a credit card is $300 so carry cash if your tattoo is small. I walked in and thought I was in a hospital because the shop is spotless. Never in my life have I seen seen such a clean and tidy Tattoo art business. I live in Austin, and will be back in two weeks and will continue to have Remy be my primary artist. He made me comfortable and was understanding of my pain level. Remy is very professional and has a genuinely great additude that completely won my trust. Remy gave me priceless information about painting that I'll never share. I met the other artists and they are exceptionally kind and knowledgeable at what they passionately do. I was intrigued by one of the guys who builds his own tools. I've walked into almost every tattoo shop in Houston and have immediately walked out.... That was until I walked into 3rd Generation Ink.... I was so impressed with how clean the parlor was. It was as sterile as an Operating Room. I have only used Neil and Bryan for my tattoos, but I'm sure everyone who works there is just as talented! I have always left there happy with their work done. It's a very chill atmosphere, good music in the background, clean, definitely not sketc...hy. All the guys are friendly, helpful, eager to be challenged, and are actually pretty freakin' gental during the whole process... considering. They are patient with you while trying to find the perfect tattoo. Another huge plus: pricing is definitely reasonable. They are always willing to work with you on pricing as long as you meet their minimum ($80--worth it). Love these guys. 3rd Generation Ink was an amazing experience. Neal was my artist and he was helpful and patient with me the whole time. I got a tattoo in my mother's handwriting, and he matched it perfectly. He was really nice and understanding when I asked a lot of questions, gave me options on different sizes, and was patient with me when I wanted to re position it after placing the stencil. I got two tattoos from Brian and both are awesome.  He is a real artist with an eye for design.  Within 10 minutes he sketched out a lotus henna that's better than anything I've came across in a few weeks of research.  He pays lots of attention to details when executing the tattoo.  He doesn't chat much during the execution of the tattoo, which I prefer as well.  I will definitely come back if I come up with new things to put on Read Less

I went to 3rd Generation Ink on a Saturday night as a walk-in appointment.  I've gotten all of my work done at one shop in Boulder, Colorado (Bolder Ink), so I felt a bit guilty like I was cheating on them.  Bryan, with 9-years of tattooing experience, seduced me with his jokes and immediately started free-handing and sketching out the tattoo idea I had in mind.  What a smooth talker that one is.  I have to say I was initially turned off by this place because it's literally at a gas station.  However, once I walked in, I noticed how clean it was and then felt comfortable to get my work done here.Bryan informed me that the minimum price for a tattoo at this shop is $80, and the price varies from there depending on complexity and time.  Once the sketch was completed and I was happy with it, he gave me some paperwork to fill out before we got started.  He then told me how he needed to shave the area on my body where I was getting my tattoo.  He stated, "Shaving men's chests is why I got into this business, the tattooing part is just an added bonus."  He had me and my girlfriend cracking up throughout the entire process, including his one story of a dude from his high school with a tongue ring, but you will need to ask him about the details on this one.After the tattoo was completed, he cleaned it up, spread ointment on it, bandaged it up, and gave me instructions on how to take care of it.  I paid what we had agreed on and gave him a $20 tip.  Overall, it was a great experience, and although I have never gotten any tattoo work across Houston before, I would recommend this place for its cleanliness and quality.Pros:-Clean-Friendly staff-ValueCons:-Location is at a gas station, but don't let this throw you off Read Less

I've used the Shaw family since 1987. I only have 5 and only one was done by a non-Shaw artist, I was drunk. Yesterday Joe, who has done my two largest, did AMAZING work on my latest. As the oldest tattoo dynasty in the U.S. It's easy to see why their reputation is so good. Joe takes intricate designs and adds additional details that makes every tat unique. How cool is it to know that something you will have the rest of your life is unlike anything else in the world!!!Little Larry has the cleanest studio I have ever seen. No wonder they won Houston's most sterile and modern shop in the city. Finally they are working on ideas to cover or re-work the only one I got elsewhere as it isn't up to Shaw standards. Jeremy Robards has been my artist for over 3 years. I was a walk-in with no direction but ideas in 2013 and have had an ongoing experience with his artistry ever since. I imagine that one could frequent somewhere/someone and be at the mercy of what they "see" for a piece, but after almost 3 years of superior and quality permanent work on my skin, I must say that he's the cat's pajamas. I am SO glad I drove around until I found this place. I tried a couple other places first but they were booked for days/weeks and I wanted my tat that very same day. So I came upon 3rd Generation around 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Place was super clean, just empty. Joe was at the front desk and I told him I was looking for a quote for a colorful, flowery quarter sleeve. As his quote was MUCH less than what others have quoted me, I was very much interested. I looked around at the pictures on the wall and portfolios and decided what the hell! Joe drew up a gorgeous sketch in minutes. I ended up doing everything in one session, less than 4 hours. It came out better than I imagined. I'm so happy with my tattoo and the level of customer service. I can't wait to come get more work done in the future. Read Less
