I had the best experience possible at J Hall and Co Gentleman Tattooers. I knew I was coming to Dallas and wanted to get a tattoo while I was here, so after doing some research I decided to book an appointment with Josh. He didn't disappoint at all, as I had the best experience possible with him. When I walked in I had a rough idea of what I wanted, but Josh was patient and really helped to make what I was thinking and visualizing in my head a reality. During the actual tattooing experience he did a great job making me and the people who came with me feel comfortable and at home with some hysterical banter, all the while checking in to make sure my experience was going as well as it possibly could. I absolutely love my new ink and loved my experience with Josh. If your in Dallas I can't recommend J Hal & Co Gentleman Tattooers and Josh highly enough!

My experience with JHall & Co was nothing short of incredible, here's how it went. I Reviewed at least 60 artists portfolios from at least 20 shops throughout Texas, and chose JHall based on his incredible art, and great praise from reviews like this one. I emailed Josh a few photos of a marine corps EGA that I liked, gave vague details on what I wanted, and set up a CONSULTATION with him the following week. I drove three hours to meet him, and arrived about 45 min early. The young lady at the front desk greeted me with a smile and offered me a bottle of water from the fridge, it was FIJI, not the cheap ass off brand kind. Anyway, Josh finished up and brought me over a photo that he had already drawn up for me. I was blown away, and had no idea that he would have already made a custom drawing for me , after all it was just a consultation. I told him that I loved the drawing, but asked him to make two minor adjustments which he was happy to do. After about 10 minutes he told me to sit in his chair, stenciled me up, and away we went. Please note that this was my first tattoo other than a small hand poked one, so I had no idea what to expect. He makes me feel at ease, and tells me "tattoos hurt, don't move" in a playful tone, so I didn't. I won't say there was zero pain, but after a couple of minutes the pain was more of an annoyance than a hurt. We joked and laughed and honestly had a great time. After a couple a couple of hours josh said " ok check out your new tattoo"! I walk to the mirror, and WOW, i can't believe what I'm seeing. What I see is a beautiful EGA, and a symbol of pride that I will have for ever. Trust me I looked at hundreds of EGA tattoos online, and honestly none are better done than mine (my honest opinion). This post is way to long so I will end it there, great to meet you guys and see you soon for my next one. I love the atmosphere and the people here. They were upfront and honest about what they thought would be an issue (design wise or placement wise). They'd still be willing to do it, but they voice their concerns before proceeding. I love that. For sure coming back for bigger, more colorful pieces. Justin was my artist. He was awesome.

I came in yesterday as a walk-in with an idea for a cover-up on my shoulder. I brought printouts, ideas, etc.. Mike was very precise in discussing what would work to cover my existing tattoo, and what wouldn't. My appointment was scheduled for today. The time quoted to complete the tattoo was very accurate, the price quote was fair, and his hand was feather-lite. The shop was quiet and mellow, and meticulously clean. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. Please, follow their rules: no alcohol, be nice, hold it together during the process, no loud guests, drink lots of water, etc...and you will have a great experience. There is a sign in their lobby that says the price of the tattoo partly depends on the guest, and I can say this is very accurate. I loved the philosophy of the shop, and my expectations didn't disappoint. My cover-up is great! Thanks again Mike.

Once you are done, you will have to just sit down for 5 minutes, get some rest. They also give aftercare supplies for FREE.

This shop is amazing! I came in and got a Daisy tattooed on my wrist and from the very first second I stepped into the shop I was greeted and and felt welcomed. Everyone here is super friendly and enjoyable to talk to. It was clean, and the artist were very knowledgeable about their art. After getting the tattoo my Artist Michael went through the procedures of making sure the tattoo is staralized and clean and he did an absolutely amazing job on my tattoo. Thank you!!!!

Mike not only fixed my tattoo he added ideas to make it better than what I originally wanted! Josh the owner is really cool and the whole shop is the epitome of professionalism. I am getting another tattoo and I just may fly in from Pennsylvania solely to have it done right and perhaps even see if they can add or improve on it. If you are in Dallas and wanting a tattoo then these guys are who you want.

Josh Hall reworked a piece that I had done by a less-than-perfect artist, and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend him. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and a good tattoo is not cheap!

From the moment you walk in, you can tell this is a shop that has class, a true artist's den. I was impressed with how clean and well kept each area was. As my wife and I waited for Michael to finish up with another customer, the owner Josh walked in. He began testing a new air freshener he had picked up at Bishops Arts and asked us what we thought about it. He didn't have to do that, he coulda just done his thing and left, but he took the time to interact with us, which goes a long way with us. And yes it did smell good!
Now, Michael sat down with me to consult on the design that I brought in. He was upfront about what he could/couldn't do and set expectations. As we began, he applied the stencil to my forearm, took a second to examine it then removed it because he wanted to position it better. I really appreciated the TLC he was taking in getting my design done right. He was accurate, fast and positive the whole time. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! He talked me through the whole process and gave expert after care instructions. This is now my place to go to for future tattoos. Highly recommended!

He explained his concerns with my idea and gave me options for making my tattoo long lasting and better quality. (Always trust the artist!) He hand drew the tattoo on my arm before he started. I liked this because it is original from the artist and not just a stencil. The shop was very welcoming and I didn't feel nervous or intimidated at all. Josh did a great job explaining everything and he made the experience a positive one. I have a great tattoo and I will be back again. I highly recommend this shop!

Contacted J Hall several times, asking questions, then set appointment with Michael. Michael looked at my design, altered it some, came out great. He offered his expert advice and gave us some much needed guidance on placement. My idea needed to be tweaked a bit, and he was respectful of my wishes and helped steer me towards a final product that I love. He answered all questions thoroughly and made us all feel at ease. The entire shop was pristine, and it was clear that sanitation and safety was a priority. He offered the same attention to detail when we discussed after care and healing. This is a great shop! These guys are pros! They are down to earth and tell it like it is. The shop is super cool and the American Traditional spirit in this place is evident on the walls, no gross 90's flash here. I got tattooed by Mike and you can tell speaking with him he understands the ins and outs of science of tattooing just as much as the artistry and technique. Josh is nice as all get out and has such a fun personality. As a matter of fact they all had us laughing at one point or another. My friend and i were both tattooed and our work turned out lovely, just what we wanted. A nice touch is the paperless forms, its nice to know my information is not going to get lost in the back of a filing cabinet. All in all 10/10 experience! I will be back, no doubt.

Made an appointment with Josh and came in with a tattoo design that I showed him in advance. I really wanted this specific design but he advised it would be a large tattoo than I would have like it due to the intracit design. But I told him I wanted it a little smaller on my ribs or I would have to find another design. He made the process easier by simplifying the design a bit for it to be the size I would like it to be. The tattoo hurt as expected but he was talking to me the whole time and joking around that made the process easy for me.At the end he told me how to take care of the tatoo and even gave me the proper bandage to cover the tatoo. He gave me some tattoo balm and disinfectant soap for me to clean with.His price is very reasonable which is a plus!! I will definitely go back to Josh to have another tatoo and will recommend my friends too!!!! So worth it!

I am beyond grateful for this shop and my tattoo artist, Michael. I have had an awful tattoo of what was supposed to be a tulip on my wrist. I have hated it and didn't know what to do about it till I started researching shops in Dallas.I walked in to get some information and happened upon Michael. He was kind enough to explain what he would do to rework my old tattoo though he was busy. I thought about it for a while and put my deposit down online that night. It was a fantastic decision. I hated this tattoo for a year and now I actually love it, and it has the meaning behind it that it was supposed to in the beginning.Michael is a great, knowledgeable artist and I would recommend him to anyone I know. Further, the shop is wonderful. It is calm, clean, and overall has a wonderful atmosphere. If you're in the Dallas area, this is certainly the place to go.

My wife and I went here to get our first tattoos for our 9year anniversary. From the moment we walked in, the artist at the shop sat down with us and listened to what we wanted. They offered advice, not just as to what they might end up looking like, but things to take into consideration after the healing. Pappy, Mike, Josh and Eli were wonderful hosts and make you feel very comfortable. Mike Gehrt did my tattoo and Eli did my wife's. These gentlemen are truly artists and very good at what they do. The entire experience was relaxed and friendly. If you are looking for a quick cheap crap of a tattoo, this is not the place for you. If you want knowledgable artists, with true skills and passion for what they do, you need to come here and let them take care of you. Thanks Gentlemen!

I had not gotten a tattoo in 20 years and was admittedly nervous about finally taking the plunge on a family design I waited 10 years to get. After a lot of research I picked this little gem. As a novice and having no idea what I needed to do to make this happen I could not have been in better hands. From advice, to design to catering to my lack of knowledge this place was amazing. Michael is a genius and a hell of an artist, and good all around nice guy. I plan to return to have my old tattoo spruced up.

When I saw Josh had his own shop I was so stoked!! He did my first tattoo back in 2009 at a shop in Lewisville. My cousin and I went and it was the best experience I could have hoped for. I went in wanting something pretty specific, but he talked me through the logistics and the long term look of the tattoo. It wasn't going to last looking like it did the first day. He drew exactly what I wanted and then he showed me his alternative. The same idea but better! It was gorgeous. I went with his version (tweaked a couple things). He is so funny; he did a good job distracting me from the pain. He worked extremely quickly and was done in under an hour. The after care instructions are dummy proof and I still can't believe how fast my tattoo has healed. It's perfect. Thank you Josh!

Working with Josh was about as easy as things get when it comes to tattoos. He takes great pride in his work, and has a passion for tattooing that his hard to come by in the era of the "rockstar" tattoo artist. The shop was immaculate, and the rest of the crew seemed to share the same no BS attitude. His attention to detail during the process was a welcome change from some of my previous experiences, and above all, he's a master of conversation. I could not have asked for a better experience. I came in expecting a 4-5 hour session or the typical "let's finish it in 2 weeks" routine. Was blown away when we were done (with a quality tattoo) right around 2 hrs. For the sake of full disclosure, this is not the kind of place where you make an appointment and get an hourly quote. Come in expecting to spend some money. You will not be disappointed. By no means are you going to get gouged when it comes to price, but this isn't a chop shop making money on volume business. You're paying for a very personalized craft, and you get exactly that.

I had the best experience possible at J Hall and Co Gentleman Tattooers. I knew I was coming to Dallas and wanted to get a tattoo while I was here, so after doing some research I decided to book an appointment with Josh. He didn't disappoint at all, as I had the best experience possible with him. When I walked in I had a rough idea of what I wanted, but Josh was patient and really helped to make what I was thinking and visualizing in my head a reality. During the actual tattooing experience he did a great job making me and the people who came with me feel comfortable and at home with some hysterical banter, all the while checking in to make sure my experience was going as well as it possibly could. I absolutely love my new ink and loved my experience with Josh. If your in Dallas I can't recommend J Hal & Co Gentleman Tattooers and Josh highly enough!

My experience with JHall & Co was nothing short of incredible, here's how it went. I Reviewed at least 60 artists portfolios from at least 20 shops throughout Texas, and chose JHall based on his incredible art, and great praise from reviews like this one. I emailed Josh a few photos of a marine corps EGA that I liked, gave vague details on what I wanted, and set up a CONSULTATION with him the following week. I drove three hours to meet him, and arrived about 45 min early. The young lady at the front desk greeted me with a smile and offered me a bottle of water from the fridge, it was FIJI, not the cheap ass off brand kind. Anyway, Josh finished up and brought me over a photo that he had already drawn up for me. I was blown away, and had no idea that he would have already made a custom drawing for me , after all it was just a consultation. I told him that I loved the drawing, but asked him to make two minor adjustments which he was happy to do. After about 10 minutes he told me to sit in his chair, stenciled me up, and away we went. Please note that this was my first tattoo other than a small hand poked one, so I had no idea what to expect. He makes me feel at ease, and tells me "tattoos hurt, don't move" in a playful tone, so I didn't. I won't say there was zero pain, but after a couple of minutes the pain was more of an annoyance than a hurt. We joked and laughed and honestly had a great time. After a couple a couple of hours josh said " ok check out your new tattoo"! I walk to the mirror, and WOW, i can't believe what I'm seeing. What I see is a beautiful EGA, and a symbol of pride that I will have for ever. Trust me I looked at hundreds of EGA tattoos online, and honestly none are better done than mine (my honest opinion). This post is way to long so I will end it there, great to meet you guys and see you soon for my next one. They'd still be willing to do it, but they voice their concerns before proceeding. I love that. For sure coming back for bigger, more colorful pieces. Justin was my artist. He was awesome.

I came in yesterday as a walk-in with an idea for a cover-up on my shoulder. I brought printouts, ideas, etc.. Mike was very precise in discussing what would work to cover my existing tattoo, and what wouldn't. My appointment was scheduled for today. The time quoted to complete the tattoo was very accurate, the price quote was fair, and his hand was feather-lite. The shop was quiet and mellow, and meticulously clean. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. Please, follow their rules: no alcohol, be nice, hold it together during the process, no loud guests, drink lots of water, etc...and you will have a great experience. There is a sign in their lobby that says the price of the tattoo partly depends on the guest, and I can say this is very accurate. I loved the philosophy of the shop, and my expectations didn't disappoint. My cover-up is great! Thanks again Mike.

Once you are done, you will have to just sit down for 5 minutes, get some rest. They also give aftercare supplies for FREE.

This shop is amazing! I came in and got a Daisy tattooed on my wrist and from the very first second I stepped into the shop I was greeted and and felt welcomed. Everyone here is super friendly and enjoyable to talk to. It was clean, and the artist were very knowledgeable about their art. After getting the tattoo my Artist Michael went through the procedures of making sure the tattoo is staralized and clean and he did an absolutely amazing job on my tattoo. Thank you!!!!

Mike not only fixed my tattoo he added ideas to make it better than what I originally wanted! Josh the owner is really cool and the whole shop is the epitome of professionalism. I am getting another tattoo and I just may fly in from Pennsylvania solely to have it done right and perhaps even see if they can add or improve on it. This place hits all the marks on what a great tattoo shop should be - incredibly clean, amazing artists, and courteous staff. They really do live up to the "gentleman" in their name. Josh Hall reworked a piece that I had done by a less-than-perfect artist, and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend him. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and a good tattoo is not cheap!

This establishment is the ultimate in tattoo artistry. I had the fantastic privilege of having my first tattoo done here. Michael G. is the REAL deal. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this is a shop that has class, a true artist's den. I was impressed with how clean and well kept each area was. As my wife and I waited for Michael to finish up with another customer, the owner Josh walked in. He began testing a new air freshener he had picked up at Bishops Arts and asked us what we thought about it. He didn't have to do that, he coulda just done his thing and left, but he took the time to interact with us, which goes a long way with us. And yes it did smell good!
Now, Michael sat down with me to consult on the design that I brought in. He was upfront about what he could/couldn't do and set expectations. As we began, he applied the stencil to my forearm, took a second to examine it then removed it because he wanted to position it better. I really appreciated the TLC he was taking in getting my design done right. He was accurate, fast and positive the whole time. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! He talked me through the whole process and gave expert after care instructions. This is now my place to go to for future tattoos. Highly recommended!

He explained his concerns with my idea and gave me options for making my tattoo long lasting and better quality. (Always trust the artist!) He hand drew the tattoo on my arm before he started. I liked this because it is original from the artist and not just a stencil. The shop was very welcoming and I didn't feel nervous or intimidated at all. Josh did a great job explaining everything and he made the experience a positive one. I have a great tattoo and I will be back again. I highly recommend this shop!

Took the family from Illinois to Fort Worth-Dallas area for Spring Break back in April. Researched several tattoo shops, found J Hall and Co to be the best choice. Contacted J Hall several times, asking questions, then set appointment with Michael. Michael looked at my design, altered it some, came out great. Thanks to Michael for my first tattoo experience, explained everything he was doing and extremely entertaining. Thanks to J Hall and the others for the hospitality it was awesome and fun. I visited J Hall with my mom and sister for our first tattoos. We got small simple pieces that could have easily been breezed over and finished quickly. However, Pappy was so patient with us. He offered his expert advice and gave us some much needed guidance on placement. My idea needed to be tweaked a bit, and he was respectful of my wishes and helped steer me towards a final product that I love. He answered all questions thoroughly and made us all feel at ease. The entire shop was pristine, and it was clear that sanitation and safety was a priority. He offered the same attention to detail when we discussed after care and healing. This is a great shop! These guys are pros! They are down to earth and tell it like it is. The shop is super cool and the American Traditional spirit in this place is evident on the walls, no gross 90's flash here. I got tattooed by Mike and you can tell speaking with him he understands the ins and outs of science of tattooing just as much as the artistry and technique. Josh is nice as all get out and has such a fun personality. As a matter of fact they all had us laughing at one point or another. My friend and i were both tattooed and our work turned out lovely, just what we wanted. A nice touch is the paperless forms, its nice to know my information is not going to get lost in the back of a filing cabinet. All in all 10/10 experience! I will be back, no doubt.

Made an appointment with Josh and came in with a tattoo design that I showed him in advance. I really wanted this specific design but he advised it would be a large tattoo than I would have like it due to the intracit design. But I told him I wanted it a little smaller on my ribs or I would have to find another design. He made the process easier by simplifying the design a bit for it to be the size I would like it to be. The tattoo hurt as expected but he was talking to me the whole time and joking around that made the process easy for me.At the end he told me how to take care of the tatoo and even gave me the proper bandage to cover the tatoo. He gave me some tattoo balm and disinfectant soap for me to clean with.His price is very reasonable which is a plus!! I will definitely go back to Josh to have another tatoo and will recommend my friends too!!!! So worth it!

I am beyond grateful for this shop and my tattoo artist, Michael. I have had an awful tattoo of what was supposed to be a tulip on my wrist. I have hated it and didn't know what to do about it till I started researching shops in Dallas.I walked in to get some information and happened upon Michael. He was kind enough to explain what he would do to rework my old tattoo though he was busy. I thought about it for a while and put my deposit down online that night. It was a fantastic decision. I hated this tattoo for a year and now I actually love it, and it has the meaning behind it that it was supposed to in the beginning.Michael is a great, knowledgeable artist and I would recommend him to anyone I know. Further, the shop is wonderful. It is calm, clean, and overall has a wonderful atmosphere. If you're in the Dallas area, this is certainly the place to go.

Made an appointment to get some work done while I was visiting friends. Pappy was my artist and he really took care of me. My wife and I went here to get our first tattoos for our 9year anniversary. From the moment we walked in, the artist at the shop sat down with us and listened to what we wanted. They offered advice, not just as to what they might end up looking like, but things to take into consideration after the healing. Pappy, Mike, Josh and Eli were wonderful hosts and make you feel very comfortable. Mike Gehrt did my tattoo and Eli did my wife's. These gentlemen are truly artists and very good at what they do. The entire experience was relaxed and friendly. If you are looking for a quick cheap crap of a tattoo, this is not the place for you. If you want knowledgable artists, with true skills and passion for what they do, you need to come here and let them take care of you. Thanks Gentlemen!

I had not gotten a tattoo in 20 years and was admittedly nervous about finally taking the plunge on a family design I waited 10 years to get. After a lot of research I picked this little gem. As a novice and having no idea what I needed to do to make this happen I could not have been in better hands. From advice, to design to catering to my lack of knowledge this place was amazing. Michael is a genius and a hell of an artist, and good all around nice guy. I plan to return to have my old tattoo spruced up.

When I saw Josh had his own shop I was so stoked!! He did my first tattoo back in 2009 at a shop in Lewisville. My cousin and I went and it was the best experience I could have hoped for. I went in wanting something pretty specific, but he talked me through the logistics and the long term look of the tattoo. It wasn't going to last looking like it did the first day. He drew exactly what I wanted and then he showed me his alternative. The same idea but better! It was gorgeous. I went with his version (tweaked a couple things). He is so funny; he did a good job distracting me from the pain. He worked extremely quickly and was done in under an hour. The after care instructions are dummy proof and I still can't believe how fast my tattoo has healed. It's perfect. Thank you Josh!

Working with Josh was about as easy as things get when it comes to tattoos. He takes great pride in his work, and has a passion for tattooing that his hard to come by in the era of the "rockstar" tattoo artist. The shop was immaculate, and the rest of the crew seemed to share the same no BS attitude. His attention to detail during the process was a welcome change from some of my previous experiences, and above all, he's a master of conversation. I could not have asked for a better experience. I came in expecting a 4-5 hour session or the typical "let's finish it in 2 weeks" routine. Was blown away when we were done (with a quality tattoo) right around 2 hrs.
