Went Saturday night to get an "OU SUX" lip tattoo for the TX OU game, I understand that these things don't last forever but less than 48 hours later it is completely faded and gone. Really upset I paid $70 plus a generous tip for this poor job. Read Less

One of the absolute best tattoo shops around! The owner has such a deep love for tattooing and a rich history he brought with him. The artists there are pretty amazing and although the artists there are multi functional, they have specialties they have practiced into a profession. Sometimes, they hold special events and even have food to share with lucky clients! It has a really nice mix of cultural appropriation and even some corners of the shop have their own life, if you follow. Man this is the joint. I've gotten quite a few tattoos here. My backpiece, half of my left arm. I got a Korean tiger here before it blew up on the scene. One of the artists there used to do grab bag sailor Jerry flash, but for some reason, does not do them anymore. I've gotten some really amazing black and grey work done there. Every artist can do everything you want. It's accredited by the BBB and it's very clean and neat and orderly. Everything is properly sterilized and categorized. And it's got a great atmosphere to enjoy whilst waiting for your tattoo. They do Friday the 13th tattoos for 24 hours. First come/First serve for $20. They try and keep the spirit and tradition of tattooing alive in an ever changing society and subculture of America. With all the tv shows about tattooing that are out, it's really good to see a tattoo shop that still tries to hold on to some resemblance of the original era. Place was pretty busy when we arrived and was greeted immediately. The chic who helped us was super friendly and very helpful. She set us up with Derek who was in the middle of working on a client. She was able to relay all the information to him and we were able to put down a deposit to save our spot. When we came back an hour later at our scheduled time our paperwork was ready and waiting. After we filled out or paperwork, Derek came up and introduced himself and showed us what he came up with. As he set up his station he told us a little about his background and the history of Electric 13. Derek was super professional, friendly and an artist I highly recommend. Love, love, LOVE this shop.  All the artists are professional, the shop is extremely clean, and the whole place has a great friendly vibe with no attitudes. Jamie Mahood is an absolute MASTER.  After stalking her Instagram for about a year, I came to her with an idea for a tattoo: a silhouette of Robert Smith.  She said while it was fine and she could do it, her expertise was in portraits (totally true--check out her Instagram; it's amazing)...so I thought about it and actually loved the idea.  I put down a deposit and made my appointment for a couple of months in advance.  When I arrived at my appointment, Jamie and I bonded over the music of the Cure--she was genuinely excited to do my tattoo, which was really cool--and we picked out the best photo for the piece together.  She took the time to make sure the placement was absolutely perfect, which is super important to me, and then got started.  After about 7 hours, with some breaks in between, I left the shop with the most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen.  It's my 9th, and my very favorite! Paco is a tattoo god. I told him the basics of what i wanted in my tattoo and he put it together better than i could have ever imagined. He made sure i was comfortable the whole time, and regularly updated me on what he was doing. He recommended things for my tattoo, like the amount of shading, placement, etc., but he always made sure it was what i wanted as well. He is an amazing artist and a super nice guy. This place is rad! A friend and I decided to get matching tattoos while I'm visiting her and we found this place online. We were walk-ins, but we were immediately greeted.  the vibe of the shop was super fun and quirky so the little we did have to wait, while our artists drew up our designs, was still a good time. Came here for a Friday the 13th special event this past January. I love my tattoo and everyone was sooo great. Minus the heat and lack of seating I'm a happy camper. The line was killer but definitely worth the $20 spent. My Friday the 13th tattoo and the Texas tattoo I always wanted combined was a great deal! The original had red and more black than I thought was necessary. The artist accommodated me and I couldn't be happier. I plan to be back for my second one this October! I would give 10 stars if it were an option. I have gotten 2 tattoos from Paco now and I have to say I would not rather have gotten my ink from anyone or anywhere else. First off: the environment. The shop is very homey, the staff is so friendly (which is hard to come by it seems when in a tattoo shop) and clean, but still a really cool and unique shop. Paco is a super versatile artist, he can tattoo from big and bold, badass American traditional to super soft, fine line black and grey. You cannot beat his line work, I've been told multiple times by people who have seen my tattoos that it's the best work they have ever seen. Paco knows what's up, he's been doing this over 20 years. Not only is he a great artist but he's one of the best people I've met in Austin thus far and will make you 100% comfortable and extremely happy with your tattoos. The first time I visited Electric 13, it was on a whim. I walked in without an appointment and explained what I wanted--an oryx skull with flowers. As chance would have it, the first artist with an opening was Paco, whom I later learned was the owner. My finished tattoo was everything I wanted and more! Paco is very attentive to detail and revised the design until he was satisfied with its quality. Several months later, I made an appointment with Paco to tattoo a coffee plant on other side of my arm. It happened to fall on my last day of work before leaving Texas, so several of my coworkers came with me. While I was initially worried that this would be an annoyance, the staff at Electric 13 welcomed everyone with open arms...and every single one of my friends ended up leaving with tattoos! I'm not a huge reviewer, but I have been beyond impressed with not only the quality of the work, but the above and beyond accommodating staff and the fun environment. I had called another studio in town that said they were fine with walk-ins, however when we arrived the front desk person treated me like I was an idiot for not making an appointment. At that point, we switched to Electric 13 without an appointment. It was three of us, so we were kind of a curveball for the day. They handled it like complete professionals. They didn't have the manpower at that moment, so they offered to see if someone could come in early, let us know when most of the artists will be in, and took my phone number so if they got someone to come early they would give me a call. One of the artists even popped in during this conversation to see what we wanted and joked around with us for a bit. I was able to explain that I wanted to start a more detailed tattoo and they were receptive and open to getting it done. We walked around for a bit and grabbed a snack and came back. While we were waiting, we got updates on what's going on and potential wait times. Although it was a wait, it was well worth it. The vibe was very upbeat and fun the entire time. Once we got back, they all worked fast and efficiently, and the quality was not sacrificed for speed. The artists were laughing and joking back and forth with us the whole time. It was my first tattoo, and David worked with the start of my idea and took the idea and ran with it in a great way. Just the outline made me super happy, and I was very excited to finish it up. I came back today, and again was greeted warmly. Unfortunately traffic started the appointment late, but staff made sure I was updated. It was WELL worth the hiccup. The final product was beautiful, and far exceeded my expectations. I appreciated that even though it wasn't the exact match to what I initially showed him, it was completed with incredible skill and artistry. I'm so much happier that it was more inspired by the picture, it's unique to me and that makes it mean so much more.I never expect perfection in any service, but I appreciate when speed bumps are handled with grace, respect and ease. They go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. I left smiling both times, not only because of the product but the environment and the phenomenal staff. It was my first tattoo and I asked the owner many questions and he was so knowledgeable and gave me amazing advice and I almost didn't want to leave. 47-year-old nerd, yuppie, first-timer. Decided to get something classic with my wife's name on my shoulder to surprise her for Christmas. If you'd told me even 6 months ago I'd be doing this I'd have said you're crazy.So needless to say I was looking for a shop that would treat a first-timer well, and I'm happy to say I found one. The shop was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They really put me at ease. Heck sometimes I thought they were laying it on a little thick just to make this nerd feel better but who cares, I appreciated it.Gabe's work was great. It's not too ornate, at my request, but a classic design, with great detail, and something I'm the least likely to regret (and I don't)! The design took under a half an hour, and the inking itself took an hour. I'm sure due to a combination of his skill, the tattoo location, and the classic jazz he had on shuffle, I didn't have trouble tolerating the pain. I've certainly felt worse involuntarily ;-) After we finished, he gave me detailed aftercare instructions, and told me about his two-month guarantee.Bottom line, I heartily recommend Electric 13 and Gabe in particular if you're  in the market.
