Went in to Affinity because the wait at All Saints was very long. Best choice I could have made! Got introduced to Chris and presented him the idea of a small cross on my ankle. Not only did he take the time to draw a couple different sizes to be sure of what I wanted, he also took my idea and made it very unique. It was my first tattoo and Chris went out of his way to answer every question I had and be patient with me. He eased me into the tatto by doing a little bit at a time until I got the feel for it. By far one of the best things I ever did was listen to my boy and got a tattoo from CHRIS DRTS. I wish I wasn't so naive when I was younger and done my research, but then again it's part of life; and part of life is getting shitty tattoos and having great stories to accompany them. I was in Austin for the day visiting my cousin who flew in from NYC. I was in the market to get a tattoo done that was sketched up by my best friend Lou. On the East side of ATX and wasn't having any luck with openings on such a short notice. I finally called downtown who said they could get me in. Affinity is on a popular tourist strip in Austin and I anticipated a pretty prict tattoo but turned out to be pretty affordable! The shop is beautiful and they have a lot of really cool unique jewelry. Chris did my tattoo and he was awesome! I can be a picky perfectionist and indecisive person when it comes to my tattoos and he was super patient. He placed stencils on all of the potential sites so that I could see what they each looked like! I really appreciate all of the time he took and his input and recommendations. He even kept up the perfect amount of conversation to quiet ratio which is key for me! All in all the experience was awesome and all of the staff was super friendly! This place is great!! I found Dylan Mott off Instagram, contacted him, and was able to get my tattoo done the next day. The shop is incredibly clean and hygienic. No concerns about dirty needles or anything gross at all. Nicely decorated and cool atmosphere. Dylan and everyone at the shop was super nice and helpful as well. I'm not quite sure why people are complaining about price. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. The artists at Affinity are really good and you're not going to get a cruddy tattoo. My boyfriend and I walked in here to get a price quote for work we wanted done. The kid at the counter looked at what we wanted and threw out some numbers which were really high, and he didn't sound like he really knew what he was talking about. He estimated a 1 inch daruma tat on my boyfriend's foot would be $150, and a 2-3 inch simple rose and triangle design on my thigh would be something like $300. Both black and white. I wouldn't recommend this place. It's a cool store front and interior, but it seems like a tourist trap designed to catch people who don't know what prices they should expect. Read Less

I just got my rook pierced by Johnny.  If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would!  First off, they take sterilization very seriously here.  I waited just over 10 minutes for my jewelry to be sterilized. They also made me initial the package my jewelry came in, that way I knew it was my jewelry that they had sterilized, and not something they just happen to have in the back that they plucked out of germ hell.  After that was done Johnny talked me through everything that he was going to do and what I would feel while he pierced me.  He was very knowledgeable, precise and patient throughout the whole process.   He took more time just marking where my rook would go than the piercing itself.  He didn't rush me out once I was done, he carefully talked me through the aftercare of my piercing, answered all my questions, and encouraged me to come back or call him anytime I wanted if I had any more questions or concerns with my new piercing.  I would highly recommend affinity and Johnny for your next piercing. I called first about getting my septum re-pierced and Crystal was SUPER friendly and knowledgeable. I came in and she did a free consultation and took the time to really check out my septum/scar tissue. She discovered that my piercing never actually closed and just needed to be stretched a bit. She helped me choose jewelry and sterilized it and stretched my piercing/inserted the jewelry for me. She only charged me for the jewelry and not the procedure since it wasn't a new piercing! That was a pleasant surprise! She was SO sweet and real and made me feel so comfortable. I had a great time. Chris Drts was awesome, and so was the guy at the front (even though I didn't even have a reference pic). Chris was really cool and made sure I was comfortable. I wish we lived closer because he had some really sick sketches. Other reviewers clearly don't understand that you will bleed after the tattoo. If a needle pierces your skin and you DON'T bleed, something is wrong. You will also scab. This is part of the healing process; learn how to Google. Also, the tattoo needs to be a minimum size depending on what it is to make sure that it preserves detail and doesn't look like a blob. Read Less

Johnny was incredible. He was kind, professional, and very informative. He is clearly passionate about what he does and treats his clients with so much care. I felt very quickly that I could trust him with my septum piercing.  He measured me carefully, sterilized everything, walked me calmly through every step. We all chilled out to death cab though the whole thing (this vibe was perfect for me). I had a lovely experience that I will remember fondly.  About the piercing- it didn't hurt, it didn't bleed, and it's exactly what I wanted it to be.  He fitted me with three rings- the second because he saw the snugger fit I originally wanted was now sure to be possible, the third because he wanted me to walk away with a perfect unbent circle. He spent the time to make sure I was happy and that his work was up to his high standards.He stayed late to pierce me on a busy sxsw night. I wish I tipped him even more than I did. I wish I could give him ten stars. Went in planning on getting a side lip piercing with a friend who was getting a helix. Crystal helped us choose our jewelry and eased my nerves with a healthy barrage of information. Hubs & I were visiting Austin this weekend when spontaneously decided to finally get the forward helix I'd been waffling on about for months. We were quoted 1.5 hours, they called when ready & we shuffled back to the shop, easy peasy. I've had several piercings & several tattoos with such a mixed bag of shop experiences- most of which is a shop of intimidating, tattoo'd, too-cool-for-your-basica-helix-piercing, pumpkin spice latte sipping self. Alas, not Affinity. Johnny was so genuine & took such care with choosing the perfect location for my helix, taking extra time to chat about healing and tolerating my piercing newb husband who basically wanted to crane his dome into this entire unknown piercing land. Dropped by Affinity to get a little bit of ink while on my bi-annual ATX trip. Seems to be a little tradition for me to get tattooed in Austin, I suppose. This was back in September, and I've slept since then, so I soulfully regret not remembering the receptionist's name. She was sweet but honest with me right off the bat, which I appreciated. She gave me her two cents about my tattoo idea, and I was grateful for her advice. After all, she could have let me pay $80 for a fading tattoo and not think twice about it. She really cares for the art of tattooing itself and the way it should be worn on one's body. That was definitely a nice surprise. Matty was really personable and very friendly for a gigantic, tattooed dude. Most places like this see a small, respectable asian girl and immediately make judge-y faces, but not the folks here. I got a small outline of Texas on my forearm and was in and out in 20 minutes. The lines are solid and clean, and it healed up quite nicely. I've had 4 tattoos prior to this experience, and I think he may be a little heavy handed, because the lines were raised up slightly during the healing process. They still are, but it's getting more flush with my skin as time goes by. This doesn't really bother me, but I found it interesting.
