This was almost a five star review but the reason I'm knocking two stars off is pretty big.. Josh Polak is an extremely skilled artist and I would recommend him to anyone. However, it is the other people in the shop that will keep me from coming back. First, Josh is great at listening and drawing up what I had in mind for both of my tattoos. On both occasions he made sure the tattoos were exactly what I wanted. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. However, during BOTH times that I went for my tattoos, people from the shop kept popping in and talking to Josh. I'm not talking quick questions, I'm talking long conversations about nothing of importance (ie. plans for after the shop closed that night). This was all while I was laying there with Josh in the middle of tattooing me!!! There was even one guy who came in and he started asking about his own future tattoos and was asking Josh for advice on what to get and what needles to use!! THIS WAS HAPPENING WHILE JOSH WAS CONCENTRATING AT PUTTING SOMETHING ON MY BODY THAT WOULD BE THERE FOREVER. These people were awkward and had ZERO customer service skills. I know they are all friends and whatnot, but at the end of the day- they are coworkers who run a business WITH PAYING CUSTOMERS. Josh was being a little bit short with them to make it obvious that he was busy but I wish he would have told them to leave him alone. Also, did I mention that we had closed the door and they still kept pouring in? Very unprofessional. Tyler was really good. Super patient and understanding. If you want a small tattoo, ask how small is possible because small ones are hard to do, but doable. You may need to go to another shop for a small one. Definitely a good experience all around! Read Less

Bob Shaw is awesome. The shop is nice and clean. The last time I was there, Tyler was my artist. I did not have a great experience with him. His lines are good, but not his work ethics. I went in one Saturday, told him what I wanted, and made an appointment for the following Saturday and put down a deposit. I showed up at my appointment time the following week, he didn't remember me, he had not worked on the tattoo we had talked about. He threw something down on paper in about five minutes. I got my first tattoo ever last night!  It's AMAZING!  It is exactly what I wanted!!!!!I was extremely nervous (literally shaking)... However, the friendly welcome feeling we received from the entire staff (and Tyler's sweet girlfriend), made me know I was in the right place!  The price I was quoted was less than I had expected.  I will admit, my biggest fear was getting a tattoo artist who rushed and or did not do a great job.  Tyler took his time and made sure to get the sketch just right- he would show me what he had and ask my opinion.  Josh even helped and gave great input!  I was so impressed before they even started!  It was such a relaxed and fun environment, by the time I sat in the chair, I was not even nervous- at all!  He talked me through the entire thing...  Tyler made my first tattoo experience so Fun!  He did a beautiful job!If you want to go to a true professional and true artist, Tyler is your man!  Very cool shop!  Love the set up!  Very nice!  Very clean! I went to Shaw's to get a watercolor paw print. This was for my dog that had passed away. David was my artist and he did a great job.  After he completed it we both felt it was missing something.  Like it was just plain.  He did everything what i asked but it needed something more.  So he came up with a starry effect to it.  It really looked amazing.  It is healing now so it looks kind of gross but when he first did this it looked really good.  I may have to go back for a touch up but his said that wont be a problem. My cousins and I walked in for tattoos on a Friday night. Ben was my tattoo artist, and he was great! He was quick and thorough, and there was minimal pain. 3 days later and my small tat is looking great.One of my cousin's tattoos got a little messed up, but she seemed to brush it off just fine. "I can get it fixed later. Maybe I can even fill it in with colors!!" Haha, good sport.I thought the minimum of $60 was very reasonable. I've been here twice now. Once a few months ago and Carlos did a great job on my foot tattoo. I went back yesterday and Josh did a small wrist tattoo for me. The place is clean and the artist are nice and knowledgeable. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because both my tattoos were on the smaller side and were pretty simple. Carlos did an amazing job on my cover up. Every cover up presents it’s’ own challenges and mines of course had some scaring. It wasn't a blank canvas and so I thought it would limit the choices of new tattoo buuuuut I got with Carlos told him what I wanted and he created something EVEN better. Seems like good people but got a crooked tongue piercing here and I called them about it and they said it had to be done that way to avoid a vein. So I went to a different shop and they said they can center it but it had to heal first so I lost money and they said there was no vein In the center so hope this helps. Read Less

Has a last minute tattoo at about 9:45pm and they closed at 10p. I gave them a call and they said they'd be down to hook me up with my knuckle ink, love and hate on the knuckles. One of the best experiences I've ever had with a tattoo parlor. I normally get all my ink from the house of ink on Venice beach boulevard on the shoreline. So I always get top grade ink. I stopped in on a Saturday to ask about a half sleeve tattoo, talked to Carlos and showed pics and talked through my tattoo. Left a deposit, and was told he would have something to me by that Thursday. I texted him reference pics, and two weeks later I had not heard back. Followed up with him and got a half completed mock up that wasn't what I was looking for. Tried to steer him back to the reference pics and what I wanted. Here we are a month later, and I have not heard a peep about my design or scheduling an appointment. I guess this is the way the artists operate at this shop, which is strange because they seemed to be all sitting around when I stopped in the first time. Hoping to get my deposit back, but not holding my breath. Definitely taking my business to another shop who pays attention to their clients, and advising you do the same! Got my nose pierced here and it was really great. I was really worried because when I got my belly button ring it was super difficult and got super swollen, and I didn't want that on my face! Josh did a great job and I had almost no swelling. I love my piercing! The shop is clean and the guys are friendly. It kind of alarmed me that they didn't have a typed up sheet for nose specific care, as Josh just gave me a quick run down that I was sure I wouldn't remember. I've had piercings before so it wasn't that different, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with such little instruction for my first body piercing. Josh was awesome- the piercing barely hurt and his placement was. I love the way it looks, and he was really great. My main issue with this place is I feel I was definitely over-charged. Everywhere on here says that nose piercings should be $45, and I was charged $60!! I thought it was insane. Maybe it included tip, but it wasn't listed on the receipt. I was so thankful about the fact that he was patient and did such a great job that I tipped on the 60 and didn't ask questions. Probably should have, but I don't mind giving more money to a great place. If I ever get another piercing this is probably where I'll go. Read Less

My husband I went to Bob's yesterday for my tattoo. I have 3 others from other places. I have to say that just the greeting alone was a world of difference at Bob's. Warm, friendly...none of the attitude that I've found at every other place. I was lucky to get Manny. He did a fabulous job. He was super patient, listened to me, worked with me and just never once made me feel like he didn't have time or that my simple tattoo wasn't important enough to give attention to.
