Super friendly staff, very clean, and I'm very satisfied with my helix piercing. I went in with my friend on a Tuesday evening and it was pretty empty so we got right in. Super awesome place! I got my first tattoo here and everyone was super nice and very informative. The artist I had (Peter) was very flexible with changes I made and very kind. They told me every thing I needed to know for aftercare and even gave specific brands of things to use (which helps a lot so you know exactly what will help you heal) . Although all the staff at Underground are super friendly, Sarah is who I've had the most work done by. She has done small and large tattoos for me and many of my friends for years now. I would recommend anyone to her. Not only does she do great work, but she is sweet, funny, and is someone who I can spend time with for hours (and have for some of my tattoos). I heard about them while checking out and oh'n and awe'n over the art of officers I met. So, curious about their techniques and what they offered, I paid them a visit where I met Alison, one of the artist, who explained what they offer and made suggestions about art location - i.e. putting it in less obvious locations depending on your vocation. I spent a little time gaining an insight into the organizations history - they are local and owned as a partnership between two artists. As I spent time at the location it was a reminder of yet another art district I frequented in the past. Apparently, this used to be a house and the area was originally residential but has changed over time. Even so, the appeal of the outside gives you a sense of their artful style. This shop is so wonderful. The entire staff is kind, friendly, and professional. I've gotten two tattoos from Sarah and both are everything I could have asked for. Love it here! The place was very nicely set up. Everyone working there was extremely nice. My piercing turned out very well. They have a nice selection of piercing jewelry. Everything went quickly. Everyone there at the time I was was also very happy with the results of their tattoo or piercing! The mermaid art was very cool. All the employees had beautiful tattoos as well. I walked in looking for a certain type of jewelry that wasn't available but I did walk out with a new daith piercing. No appointment necessary and the lady that handled my piercing was super easy to talk to and very quick at her job. The staff was professional, polite, and just really cool. I had called ahead twice to reserve a time and both times they told me to come on in. I wanted to get a medusa piercing and while on the way there the area seemed a bit questionable, the moment I walked in I knew I made the right choice. The staff were friendly and made me feel right at home, and Sarah was extremely knowledgable. Not to mention she had a medusa herself! She listened to me and gave me a satisfying consultation, and answered all of my questions about aftercare and eventually switching out the bar. I'm coming back here to get my tattoo and any other body modifications I am doing. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the memphis area and even farther. Underground Art is hands down the best tattoo shop in the Memphis area. The staff are all very friendly, open-minded, and community oriented.They have the best artists in Memphis, period. He's always pleasant and great to talk to, just like all of the staff at UA. I've had work done at other shops and they just don't add up. There is a reason they have been #1 all of these years. I got my first tattoo last week at Underground Art. I was VERY nervous, but it was a good experience. They require that you come in for a consultation and pay a deposit before making an appointment to have the work done. They gave me an estimate of $150-$200 and 2.5 hours to do what I wanted (I came in with a design, rather than choosing from one of their books). Vanessa did an amazing job. She was professional, pleasant, and (relatively) painless. The shop has a great ""vibe"" and was very clean. Final cost was $170 and took about 2 hours. I'm pleased with the tattoo and the instructions I recieved about taking care of it. All around, this was a pleasant experience! I highly recommend this shop and Vanessa, in particular. Read Less
