Phil did two tattoos for me yesterday and I absolutely love them! The shop has an awesome vibe and all of the employees are super friendly and help you out when you are not sure what exactly would look best with the tattoo you want! GREAT PLACE!!!! Stopped by on a Saturday morning with no appointment, after we got off our cruise, before heading back to Illinois. My husband and I wanted matching tattoos (newlyweds) and we had a rough (very very rough) drawing. Josh was so nice and helpful. He was very professional & said he had a great idea for some tweaks to my horrible drawing. When he came back with the drawings, I couldn't have imagined them any better! We then sat down and got to business. 1 day later and it feels great! He definitely knows what he's doing. We're so happy with our tattoos! Everyone was great in the shop! I got a tattoo for my 18th birthday and they were so helpful, friendly, funny and made me feel so comfortable considering it was my first tattoo. I got carpe diem on my forearm and I'm so in love with how it came out, so simple yet so beautiful. Phill did the work and he is so talented and I was very lucky to get him for my first tattoo. I've used your shop before and had an absolutely amazing experience. I have 9 tattoos and couldn't wait to get my next one in your shop because it's always been that great. That was not the case this time. The young lady handling the front spoke to us like we were 5 years old. Of course this started after every other employee there walked out to the front outside. She was Preaching about where we should and should not get tattoos because, and these are her words, "if you ever lose your job and have to go work at McDonalds they will not hire you and I don't want your future in my hands". - flipping burgers has never been a goal of mine so I'm pretty good on that note- Along with tons of other unnecessary comments. We obviously both have tattoos and are well aware of both the positives and negatives and don't need someone literally preaching to us. Not exactly what you expect to deal with when you walk into a parlor. One guy waiting to be seen actually said he hopes he wasn't that rude when he was that young! #1. My future is none of your concern. #2. We are both probably a good 8-10 years older than your receptionist (she was discussing her age when we walked in) so to speak to us in such condescending tones in ridiculous. #3. Shop policy is totally fine. We understand and respect that. However, the way she delivered her message was beyond rude. There were 2 other customers in the shop who made comments about her horrible attitude towards us. A simple "Im sorry, it's our shop policy not to place tattoos on the hands (this particular tattoo was so small it was unreal!) unless you have a sleeve already". The 15 minute lecture about that and other stuff that was none of her business and didn't even involve tattooing made her look not only unprofessional but the other customers also said immature. The other woman in the shop commented on how offended she was because she has an awesome respectable job and has 7 tattoos herself. Will no longer recommend to people moving forward. Josh was fantastic! I had a tat that needed color. He cleaned up the lines on the original and then added the shading and color that look amazing! Also had a second tat done at the same time. Had a great experience Friday the 13th. Gunner was working like crazy but got me and my fiance out asap. Front desk girl was a little disorganized and had to have an artist help her with a sign in sheet, and people who were there after us got tattooed first. Definitely would go back and definitely would see Gunner again. Also seemed like the guys needed some help with the cleaning and sanitizing since the workload was so crazy that day but everyone seemed in good spirits and hustled through. Love my tattoo! My husband and I are not very picky when it comes to many things however, having a tattoo is another matter. After months of contemplating we decided on tattoo wedding rings to signify our 26 years of blissful marriage. We even removed our current wedding bands to allow the skin to breath after being under a wedding ring for 26 years. We decided on simple black and silver bands. Which should have been a simple request for any artist to perform.  After paying 160 up front our artist placed two very sloppy tattoos on our fingers. We knew they were awful when we got them but that was just the beginning.  There are more blow outs and it seems that he cannot draw a straight line. I understand that there are many variables that go into this craft but come on a simple band is what we were asking for. Now we have to get it fixed. My husband's is so terrible he wears his wedding ring over the tattoo.  So my advice don't go there. Our artist was Kacy (not sure if this is the correct spelling ). Read Less

If you are considering getting a tattoo at this establishment, there are a few things you should know. One, if you make an appointment, count on the tattoo artist not being ready when you arrive, not even close. Two, if you want to get an estimate of how much a piece will be or how long it will take to do before you go in to get this permanently inked on your body during multiple sessions, don't count on an accurate number the first time. Or second time. Or third time. Three, don't expect any privacy here, or respect, because you're the customer/"canvas" and not the artist, so you're going to have other artists, customers, and associates of the artist constantly walking in and out of the room, disturbing the artist and dragging out the entire process, so you pay for more time than what you're actually getting (this is a charge by the hour place). Four, if you do make an appointment, don't expect to keep it. While the artist is booking his own work, the shop is also assigning work to the artist, leading to scheduling conflicts--so basically what I'm saying is that this place is disorganzied and unprofessional. Five, if you're 2 of 4 sessions down on a tattoo, don't expect that this gives the artist any reason to want to answer your calls or respond to your messages at all, because you're not a customer--no, at this establishment, you're merely the canvas who signed up to be permanently painted by a person who doesn't even care if you're happy with what's on your body because he's the artist, and it doesn't matter how much much you've spent. Prior to writing this review, I thought Artistic Ink was a decent shop. The employees' unprofessionalism is what deserves a two star rating.I worked with artist, Nick Bishop, to sketch and place the first tattoo in a half sleeve. He did clean and meticulous work, but over-promised and under-delivered the progress he could make in a six hour sitting. At first this wasn't a concern, because overall the work was good.I called several times as a follow-up once my tattoo healed. I asked the receptionist (MaryAnn) to tell Nick to give me a call to discuss how long it would take to wrap up the piece. I received zero call backs from Nick and no updates from MaryAnn. Still, this wasn't a huge deal. Finally, I had a second appointment scheduled... or at least I thought I did. I arrived 20 minutes early and Nick wasn't there. No one in the shop knew what was going on, so I left. While in the car I received a call from...dun dun dunnnn...MaryAnn. She had the nerve to inform me I misunderstood the appointment she organized, instead of apologizing for the inconvenience. Unless you're planning to get work done in one sitting, don't risk the annoyance due to unprofessionalism. Find a shop who is consistent in their service and cares about your overall experience. I had researched best tattoo artist in Summerville and viewed Tim's portfolio and reviews and KNEW he was the artist I wanted for the one signature tattoo I envisioned. I wanted a blue morpho butterfly to symbolize metamorphosis, of my life after the death of my husband... And the rekindling of my faith. The beauty of the artwork was way beyond my wildest hopes..... I got my tattoo done by Tim Brown back in December while I was home for Christmas. After returning to my base a bunch of my friends asked me where I got my tattoo done at, for they wanted to same guy to do theirs. Tim's nice clean lines and attention to detail in his work speaks for themselves. I actually got a touch up done today and Tim still remembers me (even after only meeting me once months ago). He's very enthusiastic about his work which makes me want to keep coming back for more. He's very well mannered and has a good taste in humor that puts some of my military friends to shame. Tim is something similar to a Tattoo God…He has this very unique ability to capture and represent a deeper meaning with his art. I can walk in, or text , and spit a few words from my head n heart and before u know it he has got me in his chair, throwing ink up out his hands and onto my body. Before I know it I’m walking out the door with the most gorgeous work I have ever seen an artist create. I have watched him do this time and again, and am never anything but completely in awe. I have never seen anyone pull an idea out of someone’s head, put it on their body, and it turn out better than they could have ever imagined. He actually cares how things are going to look long term…If he thinks it’s it won’t come out right, or in a couple years will look something out a cracker jack box, he’ll let you know, he’s very honest and truthful … I really value that in an artist.
