I've been tattooed at a bunch of shops throughout the New England area and I can definitely say that Providence Tattoo is one of the best places I've ever had the pleasure of being tattooed at. The staff were so helpful and inviting and I felt instantly welcomed the moment I walked in. I've walked into some shops before and well, you all know what it's like. You walk in and instantly feel uncomfortable, the place doesn't look/feel clean and you just get this bad vibe from the joint. Providence Tattoo (both locations) is the complete opposite. It's clean, bright, there's killer artwork on the walls and the artists are friendly right from the get go. Speaking of artists. The guy who tattooed me there is named Taylor Weed. Let me tell you, I can only say great things aabout the guy! He's an exceptionally talented artist who was absolutely thrilled about my tattoo ideas. I feel compelled to write today about my experience with Taylor, a masterful tattoo artist, at Providence Tattoo on Wickenden Street in Providence. After 15 years of looking through thousands of potential images for my first tattoo, I finally found the perfect one for me last week. So, I walked into PT on Wickenden last Friday to consult with someone there. I already did my research on the salon, and I've seen first-hand the great work that the artists there produce, so I ...was sure that PT was the place for me. Fortunately, when I walked into the salon, Taylor greeted me in a very calm and cordial manner. As a tattoo virgin, he greeted me exactly as I needed. I showed him the image that I wanted on my forearm, and I told him that I was a tattoo virgin. He immediately showed great care and investment in my concerns, and then he thoroughly answered every one of my questions. I was so taken with his professionalism that I made an appointment with him for the following day. My experience the next day with him was very comfortable, humorous, and, again, shrouded in care and professionalism. He's a consummate professional and a masterful artist. I was so thrilled by the outcome of my tattoo that I circulated pictures of it to everyone in my family and larger network of friends and colleagues. I was inundated with messages about what a wonderful job Taylor had done on my arm. He very thoughtfully and carefully produced a fantastically-detailed, perfectly-positioned, and overall marvelous design. The mood and effect of his composition is an exquisite work of art. They don't care what they put on your body in any of my 2 experiences nor do they care the quality of human interactions.... I could deal with them not being socialable (because I didn't know any better) however once my skin has been ruined.... I cannot bare to have another experience with tattoos like this ever again. Went to Atwells Ave. location. It was years since my last tattoo and I was ready to get my new design which held a lot of personal meaning. Jon is the artist that worked with me. It was a relatively simple tattoo and he still took time work with me on design, size, placement and color. I felt the same personal attention as someone might get with his more intricate pieces. Jon is a really great guy with an excellent personality. If someone is very anxious about getting a tattoo, I am certain his excellent manner, professionalism and personality would ease any nerves. Went to the Wickeden Street location with my girlfriend and they didn't have an opening. The guy working called the Atwells Ave location and got us in there instead. Nick was my artist and did a fantastic job on a sparrow on my neck. Took him only 45 minutes to complete and it looks great. Prices are pretty reasonable, but my girlfriend only wanted a "penny sized tattoo" and it was going to cost her $70 so she declined getting it. Only drawback from the shop. Read Less

Whilst visiting Providence from the UK I wanted to get a Lovecraftian tattoo whilst I was in Lovecraft's city. A booking was taken for the next day after inquiring. Everyone was professional, friendly and really down to earth. I discussed what I wanted with Jon who would be my artist, and it took about 30 minutes to get a design drawn up, and a further hour to complete. I was very disappointed with this place. I have a 7 tattoos and was planning on a new one. My husband got me a gift certificate here and I am not gonna lie I was super excited. I had a couple of ideas of what i wanted but after meeting the artist I kind of lost a lot of faith. He kept trying to direct me to things HE was comfortable tattooing and now what I was asking for. When I mentioned I didn't like the idea instead of directing me to a different artist and professionally saying he wasn't up for the job I settled on updating my tattoo I've had for 18 years. Now he told me the price before he started but I was upset the impression that he would freshen up the faded tattoo. After he already started and we were talking about it he said he wouldn't be touching what was already there. I had 2 eyes on my back. He added a little shading and some eyebrows and charged me $125! What a waste. I left him a tip bcuz it was the right thing to do and what he did looked nice. But In reality it looks like 2 separate tattoos now. Was very disappointed with the cost and service. Overpriced and none of the artists were very friendly. They also said that you aren't allowed to take someone back with you to get tattooed because it's the law?? Amazing work! Both me and my girlfriend have been tattooed by Andy Reach and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. I was getting a scar covered up and he worked with me to get the placement and design perfect to make the scar non-visible. When they say that getting a tattoo is addictive for some people,  I can see why. For me, it was kind of a big deal. I'd been thinking about it for years and just never could decide on a place, an artist, or what I wanted. My experience with the body piercing facility upstairs actually motivated me to check on what would be involved with finally getting inked and I'm really glad I finally did. Whatever visions you have of places where you'll be unsure of what you're getting...any trepidation...went out the window when I saw the first line go on my arm. Great experience. Professional, clean, comfortable and fair. They have excellent - and I do mean excellent - artists who do not bat an eye at whatever you want to do and are extremely agreeable and communicative. My artist was Jon and I was very pleased with his confidence, his talent and his overall friendliness. This was my first tattoo - a birthday present to myself - and I could not have asked for it to have gone any better. I prefer to go into a tattoo shop with an idea and then let the artist run with it, but for my most recent tattoo, I wanted an anchor--a very specific anchor straight off the internet.  Based on their portfolios, I knew the staff at Providence Tattoo could easily handle it, but I was a tiny bit nervous that with something so basic, they might just phone it in.That was not my experience at all.  Steve was totally helpful during my consultation, could fit me in soon due to a cancellation, and took the time to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I went for 3 sessions here, all with Jon. First one I paid for 3 hours ($350) and received just over 2 hours of work. second I paid for 2 hours ($250) and got an hour of work and then was charged another 200 basically to finish coloring theblast 2 pieces and it took 30 mins. I intended on having an entire sleeve done here and needless to sayni will not be returning. I just wanted an honest artist to do all my work but inetead was rushed out all 3 times and charged top dollar for mediocre work at best. Read Less

I got my first tattoo done by Steve and it was as chill of as an experience as it can be (nerves right?).  He did awesome work. This was a year ago back at their Angel st. location. They have since opened a second location on Atwell's ave. Congrats to Dennis on the second location!                                                               I have only gotten work from Steve but all the artists at the shop have been very cool when I have been in, and Dennis' work in particular is exceptional, based on his work he displays online. I have been tattooed by Steve for a year now and it has been a great experience. He gave me my first tattoo, just a simple "Mom and Dad" on my bicep and I have gone back for a year now. Steve has given me some chest work as well as a half sleeve on my arm comprised of old school, traditional, you know typical hisptery, stuff, anchors, roses whatever. Yes I have stereotypical taste, but the work and treatment I received from Steve was far beyond typical.  He is a great artist and you should really check out his flash sheets and get some of his original work.  He specializes in traditional stuff, think Sailor Jerry, though I don't want to pigeon hole him, I'm just basing this off his flash sheets and the work he has done on me. His work is of the best quality and his personality is great.  Seriously, I love his art and have bought several paintings/ flash sheets from him which hang on my walls and get compliments. I even convinced my wife to get her first tattoo from Steve, and she loves it! Whether you want to chat or just sit and meditate during your tattoo experience, Steve will give you fantastic work and a great experience, whether it's your first tattoo or your 100th whether you wanna chat or just grit your teeth, Steve works perfectly with you and your design.                                                                The price is decent. I mean it's not cheap, you get what you pay for. But both the locations, I got work done at both, are immaculately clean. The owner, Dennis, is constantly supervising the cleanliness and directing the other artists and staff to address any problems. The attention to detail and cleanliness sets this shop apart and should make it a front runner if you're looking for the first place to get a piece. I have since moved out to the West Coast and miss the work I got back East. I can't wait to visit home and get more work done by Steve! Read Less
