Joe was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and could not thoroughly explain and show me any better that everything he used was sterilized on the spot. I walked in on impulse wanting a surface piercing that my local shop back in NJ was not willing to do for me. He showed me he that he uses 90 degree angle surface bars which have a significantly lower rejection rate than other jewelry used. This is the type of shop that is very serious and delivering what you want with no goofs, gimmicks, or stupid jokes or pointless conversations made on the side. Joe has done many of my most successful piercings. They always healed well and fit perfectly. After four long and successful years with my facial micro-dermal, a career change required it be removed. I have been on the fence for some time now about getting a piercing so finally I bit the bullet, did a little homework found Evolution, gave the shop a call and was convinced by the end of the conversation that I wanted to try them out. No appointment needed but give yourself plenty of time if you are with someone or if people are ahead of you. Joe was very thorough and explained the process to me. He has several years experience and it shines! The shop is clean and quaint serving the purpose of showcasing a variety of jewelry at affordable prices and a sitting area snuggled in between it all. You will need your ID and if you are under 18 your birth certificate with your parent. Some paperwork  going over the basics, you will need to sign off. He sends you home with a how to clean paper which also tells you what to buy but he also verbally reminds you as well before you leave. He provides a private area for the actual piercing and one person is welcome to accompany you in the private area. During the piercing he goes step by step saying aloud everything he is doing. I have been here a couple of times.  I got my eyebrow done when I was 18 ( 16 years ago) and was impressed with cleanliness of the shop.   Joe did my eyebrow and I was doing it on impulse.  It was done gently and all questions I had (about a different piercing) we're answered with no judgement.  I enjoyed the experience and I went back again and did both nipples for my 21st birthday.  I had Joe again; he's awesome.  I'm shocked by the low reviews and can say I never experienced anything like that while I was there.  Thanks, Joe, for the great experiences!   Hoping to come back soon for a daith, hopefully I'll get you again! I came to google to search for the hours on when to call. I saw 2 people give a 1star rating that I feel is not accurate by any means. Joe pierced me for 3 years many moons ago while I lived in RI. I went back recently and just got new piercings and he was just as great as he was years ago. He is super knowledgeable, practical, and treats every single customer with respect. Another 1 star review was saying they close at 9 but at 8:30 they were closed? Well any service industry will close their doors early. It takes time to prep, sterilize, and get somebody ready for a piercing. if you go to a hair salon and they say they close at 9pm, would you go at 8:30? He explained everything about his product he uses down to how I need to take care of it. So now I was ready to go. He spoke with such a calm voice, explained each and everything he was about to do. I was nervous because I thought that where it was located would hurt more than any other one I've received. Guess what, it did not hurt at all. He was very gentle and caring. From beginning to end. This was the best experience I have had getting this done. Not to mention I've been back there a few times for stretching ears, to buying new jewelry. Joe is always accommodating and is very knowledgeable about piercing and after care. I brought my cousin there for her first piercing and Joe made her feel calm and relaxed and told her what was happening every step. High quality jewelry and cleanliness. Would not ever recommend this shop. As another reviewer said, it almost seems like they wish you didn't come in. Not to mention, I had to get my lip pierced THREE times in the same visit because the piercer refused to pierce the part of my lip I wanted done. It wasn't a matter of it being too high or too low, she kept wanting to put it right either at the corner of my mouth or the middle of it, above my chin. I finally gave up and just figured I'd deal with it where it was, how bad could it be right? Soon after though the jewelry started irritating it and I had to take it out anyway, I was told it was good quality metal but apparently not if it gave me a reaction like that. I'm not sensitive to stuff unless it's really, really poor quality. But sure, why not pay like $80 total for all that? (I did eventually get my lip re-pierced somewhere else and love it.) Read Less

Instead of driving to a town over,I (a masshole) ended up going to see Joe, in another state. Since Evolution is exclusively piercing, I didn't feel rushed and asked a ton of questions. Joe is wealth of information- from the benefits of wearing organic materials to advising the best placement of new piece of jewelry. Certainly less distracting then talking with a piercer at a tattoo shop, for me anyway. I never write reviews - I actually had to create an account to write this. The men in front of me were in for a piercing. They let me go first to choose jewelry. When it was time for the customer to sign his waiver, the man at the counter (I am horrible with names!) asked if he'd been drinking. The customer admitted to drinking and the transaction had to be stopped right there. Evolution was firm that they cannot work on anyone who has been drinking. The policy was explained, and an invitation to come back the next day was offered. I don't know if it is just me, but I am really impressed when a business puts the safety of its customers ahead of monetary gain. It would be easy to say "Oh, it was only one drink" and wave it by. Evolution would have made a lot of money with that piercing. It was really awesome to see the integrity of the business. I will refer everyone to Evolution after this. Definitely a great experience! I've gotten my belly button ring and nose pieced here. The service is great. The owner, Joe, spent a while with me making me feel comfortable and letting me know all of the information about my piercing (ie, how to clean it, how to maintain it, healing time, etc). The prices aren't cheap, but for my nose it was 40. He only uses the top jewelry and safest metal. He's extremely knowledgable and experienced. I cannot say enough about Evolution Body Piercing and the staff who work there. Let me start with the place itself. It is small but extremely clean. I have never seen such a beautiful selection of jewelry anywhere else. The way the jewelry is meticulously displayed is absolutely stunning!I have received piercings from many different places in Rhode Island as well as California. I can say, without a doubt, that this was one of my most pleasant experiences. Joe explained everything that I needed to fill out before hand as well as my aftercare instructions. My waiting time to be pierced was minimal. When I stepped into the room in the back to be pierced, I had the procedure fully explained to me. He doubled up on the gloves. I watched as he sterilized my jewelry and took all tools out of brand new packaging. We talked as I waited for my jewelry to sterilize and I was made extremely  comfortable before my piercing. During the procedure, Joe talked to me in a calm soothing tone. I couldn't have asked for better service throughout my visit. I have been back since my first visit to get my ears stretched and will be back in another month or so to get them stretched once again. Perhaps I'll decide to get a new piercing as well. I've been here a few times for piercings for myself and friends. The customer service skills seemed to be lacking every time, almost like they wish you hadn't come in. One of the piercings I got in my ear came out crooked so I had to let it close. I came in for the first time the third week of April to have a second hole pierced into each of my earlobes. I called ahead of time to see if I could schedule an appointment, but the man on the phone told me to just bop in. To be honest, I felt a little frazzled because it was a Saturday, and I like to make appointments for this kind of thing and I was already annoyed with myself for failing to think ahead to schedule this, you know? I didn't want to have to wait a million hours in the event that the shop were to be flooded with customers. Well, guess what? It wasn't. Neat!Joe greeted me and took my best friend and I into the back room. We had the general prep conversation, explaining the sanitary and safety measures taken, and then we talked Star Wars. Pretty perfect if you ask me. Joe pushed the needle through my earlobes and it was over in 5 minutes or less. He was very friendly and funny--I will definitely come back as far as piercings go. HOWEVER. I did go in for a tattoo a week or two later. I feel terrible because I cannot recall the name of the tattoo artist and I truly wish that I could remember... alas, it is not to be... and such a crucial bit of information at that! I'll get to the point. Brought in the desired design--just lines, an origami bear design. Pretty simple. It came out OK. I say this because three of the lines are not accurate. As in.. they are not perfectly straight lines, a little curved, and the tail end looks a bit smudged, AH! He was very nice, very clean, good conversation--just not entirely happy with the result. My fault--make sure to look into your tattoo artist, and if you're going for a specific style, you should always go to someone who has the experience and maybe even has a particular interest regarding whatever you're trying to have done. My friends and I went to Evolution yesterday to get some new piercings (ears and nose for two separate friends) and some new jewelry (for myself).  Evolution is a VERY small studio located directly across from PPAC...if I hadn't already known it was there, I might have missed it.  The foyer is tiny and displays all of the jewelry - they have a very nice selection of body jewelry that's pretty reasonably priced (I got two nose studs, one for $20 and one for $10) and it's all surgical grade so you don't have to worry about infection from a cheap silver plated item.There's an equally small room in the back where piercings take place.  Everything is very clean and the piercer was a professional.  She told us she's been piercing for 17 years.  She explained all of the cleaning and safety requirements, double checked placement of holes before piercing, and gave great advice about future care of the piercing.The only reason this place gets a 4 and not a 5 is that it's BOILING HOT!  There's no air conditioning in the front room and piercings take a long time so we were waiting in the heat of the day.  It ended up being cooler to wait outside in Providence's 90 degree weather (but there's a breeze outside, unlike the interior of Evolution).  The piercing room itself was nice and cool, but be prepared to melt while you're waiting for your friends to get pierced.  Or plan to go in December. I got my first piercing here last night and it was a great experience! First off, the studio was extremely clean (as it should be!) Secondly, Joe was very, very professional. He had no issues with all of the questions I had. If I were him, I probably would've gone nutzo. He was very thorough in explaining the processes of the piercing (sterilization, lubricant used, etc.) as they were being done which made me feel comfortable and at ease.Absolutely no corners were cut. The price I paid for my tragus was about $45 (price varies, depending on the jewelry you choose), which, I believe, is well worth the amount of professionalism and care that is provided.Go Evolution! I can't overstate how happy I am with the job these guys do. I've been here twice for piercings, and both times have had an incredible experience. (Once Joe, once Chantal, so I can vouch for both of them.) I have a metal allergy and have a terrible time with even surgical steel earrings from most piercing places. These guys really mean it when they say surgical-grade steel; it's perfectly hypoallergenic and both times my piercings healed flawlessly and almost immediately. They do it right, by hand, don't cut corners, and charge an incredibly low price considering how good a job they do. I will never go anywhere else ever again. Read Less
