Don't waste your money at this place that has little to no concern for attention to details and have the most unprofessional attitude I have ever experienced. I scheduled a 1P appointment to get a triple Helix pierced in my ear with Erica. When I arrived I checked in and gave her my name she said she had 3 mystery appointments at 1 and didn't have me on the schedule. She rushed me and copped an attitude to pick out earrings which was one option. She marked my ears with 3 planned holes. Before I agreed to the locations she said "Don't worry I won't make you look stupid." She pierced all 3 holes, after piercing the last hole she said she was going to have to take the 3rd hole out because it didn't fit in line with the other holes and was not appealing. I looked at it and was very disappointed that they looked nothing like the holes she originally marked for locations. After agreeing that it looked terrible I let her remove the last hole. I left very disappointed. I waited a couple days to see how I felt about it to come to the same conclusion it looked terrible. I called to let them know I would like them removed and redone the way it was originally intended. I spoke to guy name Joe he went off on me telling me I signed a consent form. He was so irrational over the phone that I had to hang up. He called back but I was scared to answer. I later received a text message with him apologizing for being "gruff" He asked if I could come in so he could take a look at it. I scheduled to come in the next day. He looked at it and offer me an earring that looks like 3 holes but isn't. I said I didn't like that option and asked if I could just give it some time to before committing to have it redone. Although that AGAIN WASN'T WHAT I WANTED I left because he AGAIN was irrational and now delusional. He went on about outer space and how the receptors in my ears were giving off negative energy and he kept going on and on about the aliens. IT IS CLEAR HE WAS Delusional and made no effort to truly fix the situation. He was attempting to distract me with his antics. Read Less

Josh did my very first tattoo almost 3 years ago! Being my first tattoo ever I did thorough research on this place and From the start, was great to work with. As much as it saddens me to say anything negative about a local business, I feel it necessary to share my experience so that others can not make the same mistakes. I went to beneath the skin almost a year ago for a belly button piercing. She did an awesome job and I thought the place was clean and professional so when I wanted a tattoo for my 18th birthday I decided to go back. I had never gotten a tattoo before so I was very nervous and confused about the process so I emailed them about a month before explaining that this was my first time and I would appreciate help in planning it. I never got a response. I called the day before and explained to someone on the phone what i wanted and made an appointment to come in. I wanted a small one word tattoo in my own handwriting so I wrote it beforehand knowing I would be too nervous at the time of the appointment. Upon my arrival I was told that the word was too small despite the fact that it was already written larger, so I had to get it bigger than what I intended. The man who did it was very shaky and the letters ended up being very wobbly. Not knowing what to do, i thought that maybe it would heal differently so I tipped him generously and waited for it to heal. Months later and my tattoo was faded in most spots and the letters looked horrible. At this same time I decided to get another ear piercing, thinking that I could get a new piercing and possibly get my tattoo touched up. I knew that the piercer’s schedule was unique so I called ahead of time to see when she was available. I was told to call back. I called back again, and was told that she would be in Sunday and to call that morning to see what time. I called again on Sunday and was told that she wasn’t in at all. I was very frustrated and ended up going to a different place because that was the only day I could get it done. I was so frustrated by these experiences because I feel like I was taken advantage of because I was inexperienced and did not know what kind of service to expect. I wanted to give these guys a stellar review since a friend of ours recommended them. Unfortunately, my experience was sub par. I, ultimately, ended up having to get my tattoo fixed at another shop after THREE attempts at Beneath the Skin Tattoo. My friend and I were walk-ins and there was only one artist in the shop at the time. We called ahead and he was happy to do a small, single-word wrist tattoo for each of us. It was my first tattoo and I was excited to finally get it done. What we didn't realize at the time (our fault for not looking into it further) was that the artist was new and relatively inexperienced compared to the other artists in the shop. I figured that our tattoos weren't graphic or large and that it wouldn't be an issue. Well, after going through the first round of healing, most of my tattoo peeled off. I don't mean a little bit, I mean that much of the ink was missing or barely noticeable. No problem, they have free touch-ups. I went back again and he thought a darker color would work better. Okay. After that didn't heal much better than the original, I attempted to talk to Joe, the owner, directly. I didn't want to call the shop so as to not call-out my artist while he was there. He was very personable, but I felt that I needed someone else to fix his work at that point. I sent several emails and social media messages to the shop/Joe asking for him to contact me directly via phone to discuss my options. I never heard back. I even went back a third time to try and let the artist fix it again. At Joe's suggestion, he went from teal to midnight blue in the hopes that it would solve the issue. Unfortunately, even after his 3rd attempt what I had was a sloppy, spotty tattoo that was beyond disappointing. This being my first tattoo, I was incredibly upset that it looked awful. I attempted to contact Joe on social media via the shop's page one last time - still, nothing. I gave up and contacted another local shop. They replied almost immediately and offered to give me a consult anytime I could stop by. Not only did the artist there fix it, she made it look AMAZING (I even added onto it)! I wish I had gone there in the first place! I think there are a lot of very talented artists at Beneath the Skin Tattoo, but mine was not ready to do line work on his own. He was very friendly and tried his best to fix it, but his line work skills were not good enough. The friend that referred me has a wonderful tattoo that was done by Erika. I feel like Joe should've stepped in as he was in the shop and even advised my artist every time I came in for a touch-up. My tattoo was getting worse instead of better, and he didn't offer to have a more experienced artist fix it before it was too late. I wasted my money getting a tattoo here only to have it completely redone elsewhere. I wanted to give these guys a great review. I'm writing this review for a friend of mine since I know they wouldn't do it. I recommended beneath the skin because I have gotten all of my work done there and enjoyed the experience. After two of their top artists left it seems the business has started to quickly decline. My friend went in to speak about s small simple tattoo they were looking to get. She made an appointment and everything was good. Shows up to her appointment and the artist who was supposed to tatto her doesn't acknowledge that she is there for her appointment and instead he starts tattooing someone else. Seriously? After an hour of waiting he finally asks how he can help and she tells me she had an appointment. His response was "oh I forgot". You forgot? That's your job. You are supposed to know who is coming in, what they want and what time. Sad to see where this place is headed but I deff won't be recommending this place to anyone else and I also won't be returning. Read Less

I had an appointment back in December. I know the review is quite late, but i just now had something spark my memory for doing it, so this is not a "heat of the moment/misery loves company" type of review. This isnt a review of the shop as a whole, or necessarily the artist, but only my experience. I had an idea in my head about a sleeve i wanted done. Knowing there were some shops in the area, i decided to do a little research, since im not very familiar with their work, only the names of the shops. I have a few tattoos, but they were all done out of the area when i was in the Navy. After some research, i found Beneath the Skin, and i was very impressed by some of the work i saw, and noticed i went to school with one of the artists. I wasnt expecting a discount on a tattoo or anything, but i havent seen him since 2003, so i thought itd be cool, and i liked his work. Over the phone, i set up an appointment to come in, and the atmosphere was cool. Artwork and decor was pretty awesome, they were playing Lamb of God, which i was totally cool with and it was loud! I figured, my kind of place. The artist basically asked what i wanted and set up a time for me to come in after New Years. He didnt really ask a lot of questions as to what i wanted it to look. He just gave me a quote and set up the next appointment. He said when i come back, he will be able to figure out what i wanted, draw it up and get it done. He made a mention to cancel no later than 24 hrs prior and i told him that wouldnt be a problem, im very interested in getting this work done. It seemed a little rushed and disinterested and i think my confirmation came a week or so later when he texted me 45 minutes before i was due to come in, saying "something came up". Said he would get a hold of me to reschedule on monday. Yeah, it was a friday, and when i didnt hear anything on monday, i texted then called monday and tuesday, with no response. I probably could have called the shop, which was my fault, but if i had to chase someone down who probably didnt want to do the work anyway, i might not want that ink on my body. So thats MY experience and based on the reviews, it seems like a decent plalce. I however, may not be coming back. Read Less

Erica made the experience very comfortable and relaxing. I got snake eyes done so it wasn't exactly the least painful piercing I've ever gotten but it wasn't bad. I got my nose pierced here about three weeks ago and had the best experience ever!!! They have a professional piercer who was super duper sweet and funny. I was really nervous and fidgety, but she was super awesome at making sure I was calm and comfortable the entire time! She was great at explaining what she was doing and the ins and outs of piercings. Took like 15 minutes, and it barely hurt! Only $50, too! I drove out like 30 minutes just to go here but it was worth it! I HIGHLY recommend this place!! Read Less

Terrible experience!! Based on several recommendations, we drove 40 minutes to get a nose piercing, and wound up leaving with nothing. Hours posted on website say they open at 12:30 on Sunday's, we arrived and were told the piercer comes in at 1:00. Ok, it would have been helpful to know that but we waited, only to have another customer grab the piercer on her way in the door. She completely ignores us to have conversation with this guy, wait 15 more minutes, and ask if we can make an appointment since now we need to leave AND then get a load of attitude from the piercer. So after a 40 minute drive, and 50 minutes of waiting I left with an unpierced crying 15 year old. Save yourself time, and frustration, avoid this place, maybe if they have no business they will learn how to treat customers. I've never met such talented artists in my life. I've gotten a dozen+ tattoos prior to going to beneath the skin, but Alex designed a tattoo that I completely fell in love with. So sad of a place - first off fantastic art here but absolutely no customer service skills at all. Made an appointment to get work done - discussed what I wanted 2 weeks prior with the artist. Called during the week 3 times - could not get the artisit on the phone - then left aMessage for him - no call back , then placed another follow up call the day prior to make sure we are all set. Walked in the day of the appointment and he took another client in my appointment time. No biggie I thought - good work so worth the wait an hour I thought. After an hour and a half he then finally acknowledges me in the shop even though I was sitting right in front of him the last hour and a half. I ask if he made the drawing we discussed and he did not - said he had no time - 2-weeks notice and no time? He then goes and takes a break - again no biggie I'm thinking We discuss the drawing yet again and he tells me to give him a half hour to draw it up. An hour later I'm sitting still in the waiting area with no sign of him or how much longer it may take to get started Total wait time 3 hours! Finally not worth sticking around - I understand having to wait but damn 3 hours? They are good artist but really have no care in the world about your time or you as a customer. Their not the only game in town so I will give my money to another shop and artist who will somewhat appreciate the business By  the way - I had 4 other sessions set up to get work done so think about what I was planning on spending Sitting there for 3 hours I was able to observe customer after customer come in and stand around and wait for help - takes you at least 15 minutes to even get acknowledged. Beneath the skin is my go-to place and suggestion for anyone looking to get a tattoo or piercing. When I get a tatto I usually see The artist Alex (not sure how he spells it). I love his work because he is versatile, no matter what style I bring to him he always executes it better than I could have imagined. Let me remind you, you get what you pay for! Smaller tattoos you will get a quote for if i remember correctly their minimum is $60, and larger tattoos are usually 100$ per hour. Friends of mine have never had a bad experience with the other artists as well. Just recently I got a piercing from the girl there who does the shops piercings. She was very nice and made me feel super comfortable. I was getting a piercing redone after a different shop had messed it up, she told me her thoughts on what they had done wrong and my new piercing is healing beautifully. My 19 year old sister and I just went to get piercings at Beneath The Skin last week. She got her nose done, and I got my belly button (I'm 16). At first it was a little intimidating with the metal music playing and the artists with tons of tats and piercings all over, but it turned out to be a great experience. We had called ahead by only a few days and Erika got us an appointment right when they opened on the day we had asked for. Sundays are good because you can get a piercing, the jewelry for it, and the cleaning spray all for only $40. Erika was professional and clearly knew what she was doing, but she was also the sweetest girl who talked both my sister and I through everything. She took her time cleaning both of our pierced areas before and after, used sterilized equipment, and was as gentle as one can be when shoving a needle through someone's skin. After my sister's nose was done, she got a little woozy from the pain and the experience. Erika quickly had her sit on the couch and ran to get candy to get her blood sugar up, and water to go with it. She gave us clear instructions on how to care for our piercings, and reassured us that if there were any complications or questions we could call or stop by. If you are afraid to take out and change your jewelry alone, they will gladly do it for you if you come in. It's been a week and my belly piercing still has not bled, pussed, swelled, or anything. Amazing work! Very clean shop! Friendly staff and amazing artists. All of my tattoos have been done here and the work they do is perfect! I have been to many tattoo expos and have had some of the worlds best tattoo artists compliment my half sleeve Stefan had completed. I now live in Germany and all the shops I have visited here have also complimented my work that was done at Beneath The Skin. The shop is also the cleanest shop I have ever been in so far. Though Joe Lasheski is a very talented artist and I was incredibly happy with the work he designed and tattooed on my feet the first time around, he is not the most pleasant person to converse with.  The second tattoo I had him ink he snapped at me twice while doing.  First, when I was choosing my color and next actually during the tattoo.  I informed him during the tattoo that he was not following the design I chose and was doing something I didn't want him to and he told me I was starting to pull him out of his work and to basically keep my mouth shut.  It was a highly unpleasant experience and though I told him I was the one wearing it for life, he brushed over that fact.  Maybe it was a bad day for Joe, but now I have a tattoo that is pretty but not what I asked for.  Oh- and be prepared to wait for an hour for a pre-scheduled consult.  He even went out to eat during my actual tattoo time slot as I was discussing what I wanted.  I will never go back.  No artist, however talented, earns the right to be that rude and to allow their own creative outlet onto your skin instead of what you asked for.  Choose another artist from the shop.  They are all talented and far more pleasant than Joe himself. I've been going to Joe for a few years now at his old shop and just finally made it up to his new one in pottstown.  If you're looking to get a great custom tattoo from the limits of your imagination, these are the guys to consult with.  Great with black & gray, and colour as well.  I personally get a lot of Giger work and nostalgia pieces, and I've been astounded everytime he brings them to life on the skin.  All the artists there have awesome portfolios, and they can even give you online estimates!  There expanding their shop in august in the same complex so definitely check them out.  It's hard to find professional artists that are fair and generous as this shop.  and if you're not that close to the area, its well worth the drive!
