This started out as a journey for me. Walking up and down Carson Street into every tattoo shop trying to find the right artist and the right shop. In the Blood was the very last stop on me making my rounds and I'm so glad I walked through that door! The staff is EXTREMELY friendly, very welcoming and some of the most talented artists in the City of Pittsburgh! I've been working with Judah for about a year and a half off and on, completing a sleeve on my arm just a little bit at a time. He is an outstanding artist with an incredible eye; easy to work with and open to his clients ideas -- ALWAYS! I am so happy that I found a place where I feel safe and an artist that isn't selfish to his own ideas who is willing and able to do what is within the best interest of the client and their happiness!!! After reviewing and checking out a few places, I settled on In The Blood. I'm really happy I did because it was an amazing experience. I got my first two tattoos done by the owner, Justin, who was just awesome! He was so friendly and made my first tattoo experience amazing. My ink is still healing, but it's holding up pretty well. They are very neat and exactly what I wanted. Also, I should mention that I did not have an appointment and just walked in. Let me start off by saying that this review is well deserved and unfortunately, long overdue. I discovered ITBT back in 2009 after doing extensive amounts of research on tattoo shops in good ol' Pittsburgh. I had called to schedule an appointment for my first tattoo and I remember the receptionist being extremely friendly and helpful. Once my appointment rolled around, I was SO nervous and wasn't sure if I wanted to go through with it or not. The artist who did my tattoo (Bullets - flowers on left foot) was so kind, professional, thorough, and made sure that I was as comfortable as I could be. In 2011, I got my second tattoo (Seth - owl on right forearm) and had a similar experience - yet another wonderful artist who went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable, relaxed, and happy. I now live in SoCal and have received many compliments on my ink. Whenever someone asks me where I got it done, I tell them all about my favorite little tattoo shop. I'm looking forward to working on a full sleeve in the future but I refuse to go anywhere else. If you're looking for an impeccably clean shop with an amazing staff, please don't look any further. I was visiting Pittsburgh and was excited about getting some ink.  Researched the area and In the Blood kept popping up.  Decided to check the place out.  The gentleman that initially spoke to me was great.  He seemed interested in what I wanted and was responsive to what I was describing. (If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say this was Justun... just basing that off of his professionalism which I greatly appreciated)  Then I got passed on to this other guy.  When he walked over, he appeared to be hung over.  While I was describing what I wanted, my friends noticed that he wasn't paying one bit of attention because he was apparently staring at some girls that walked in.  When he finally started speaking back, he told me what he "Couldn't" do and what he "Wouldn't" do.  Fine... great.  I appreciate hearing that you're not comfortable with doing something.  What really sucked was that he didn't bother to offer up any of his own words of wisdom.  Fine... you can't do something, OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE.  I got the typical, "It's your body, dude.." response to a question I asked.  I was up front about not being an artist and would need some guidance. Based solely on this encounter, I'd have to question his artistic ability.  I guess he expected me to go to the wall and pick some simple stencil work him.  Sorry, but I'm looking for someone with talent.  In the Blood, you lost a sale because of this guy.  Had he taken even a minute interest, might have stuck around.EDIT - Oh, forgot the best part.  After he sensed that I was over him, he started to draw something on a piece of paper to show me, but threw the pen on the table after  a few seconds and said, "I don't know."  No joke! I had been considering another tat for a few months and a couple of Saturdays ago, the spirit moved me.  As usual, I do everything spur of the moment.  I did some research and In the Blood Tattoos was the highest recommended.  It is my fourth but first word tattoo (dum spiro spero, Latin for "While I breath, I hope").  Mark was the artist and he was painstakingly accurate with the placement, I'm not complaining, since it is just below the fold on my elbow on the inside of my forearm.  Highly recommended and the price was good.  Highly recommend! On the 2nd day of my "Baseball Road Trip 2011", I made it into Pittsburgh for my first experience at the new ballpark.  With a lot of time on my hands before my son and I could check in at the hotel, we decided to wander around the south side and see what we could get ourself into.  In a lot of cities that I visit, I try and get tattooed if at all possible.  Since I had been a fan of the Pirates since being a kid, I hoped to find a shop that I could continue to complete my collection of "baseball logos".  The iconic Pirates "P" was all I was looking for, and I had a small space behind my ear that I was looking to put it.  While shopping at a store in the South Side Works area, I asked a girl who was fairly tattooed herself where I should go.  She suggested In the Blood, and I quickly made my way to their Carson St. location, just a few blocks away from where I was already at.  The shop was easy to find and the staff was really awesome to both me and my son.  I believe it was John (sorry if I got that wrong, it's been a few weeks now) that inked the small piece in the exact placement that I was looking for.  He was nice and easy to chat with and did an exceptional job on the logo.  The size of the piece was probably the only challenge, simply because there isn't any room to go back over any lines.  He nailed in and it looks great.  I certainly hope to find myself back in Pittsburgh someday soon and when I do, I'll be back to this shop undoubtedly.  Thanks again!  (Also, kudos for being so responsive to a FB post.  Glad to see the business recognizes the importance of being active online as well).
