I called around to a couple of places, and it was either booked or closed. I was looking to get something ASAP. I called and the gentleman over the phone was very polite and was able to fit me in as a walk-in. My tattoo artist name, was Bobby. The only thing i wish he had done was to inform me that i had to wait in order for him to set up his station (which took about 30 mins) I didn't mind the wait though. This was the first time i gotten a tattoo in an actual shop, I usually get it done by friends, this is my third tattoo. You also have to sign a consent form and if your 18 years of age you have to sign a consent form and bring an adult. He was polite, he didn't talk much in the beginning but in the end, he was communicating with me about the aftercare and pricing of the tattoo. I felt very comfortable and felt all my questions were answered, will be returning again. I paid $100 for a 3" long tattoo (This Too Shall Pass, with a cross at the end). I'm giving 2 stars as a baseline simply out of respect for how amazing their art work is. I've contacted the main page, and attempted making appointments with 2 different artists...to no avail. The first, I asked about pricing and I was ghosted. Maybe that's bad form and he got insulted, which could be entirely my bad...but I made it clear that this was to be my first tattoo and that I didn't really know what I was doing. The second...I have no idea. I got an initial reply...then ghostville, USA...population me. If I did something rude or if my design idea was impossible: That's okay...but tell me. I'm a newbie, and I made that clear. Just don't ghost me. I know this is a business run by emo people...but we've all been out of 8th grade for a while now. Once again, Tim and the artists at AMP deliver. As you walk in and before you can put your things down in the spacious lounge they have for customers, you are greeted and asked if you are being helped or there to see a specific artist. If this is anyone's first time, fear not. The staff at AMP dont just toss a portfolio of work to review at your feet, but rather go through it with you and answer any and all questions about the process. Each artist has more than enough space in their booth and privacy curtains are present if needed. My friend and I were both getting our first tattoos, so I did pretty extensive research and was lead to this place. First I emailed the studio, and the shop assistant, Maryleigh, responded within the day and was extremely friendly. I told her what were we're looking for and she was helpful and recommended a few artists. From there I did a bit instagram creeping and decided to go with Dylan. We both wanted pretty minimalistic thin lined tattoos, and he seemed perfect for that!I had some email back and forth with Dylan, explained what we wanted, and again, he was very responsive and seemed excited to be our first tattooer. The shop minimum is $100 and I asked around a few shops, and it's the same all over philly. As soon as we got there, we were helped, and Dylan pretty much greeted us right after we walked in. He showed us what he drew and I was a bit of a pain in the ass and made him redraw and tweak it about 5 times but he never complained and was super cool about it. The overall studio is clean and the rooms are private. He used all new and clean tools and even aimed the space heater closer to me and let us pick music! He recommended tattoo placement, and told us what to expect since we were both getting our firsts. In the end, we both loved our tattoos and were super happy with Dylan's work and patience with us!My tattoo was a very minimalist cartoon sketch of my derpy dog and my friend got a frenchie tattoo. Not my first time getting a tattoo but my first time doing a cover up! I probably did the worst thing I could of done and get a tattoo when I was 17 and regretted it years later ! I found Andy on Instagram and instantly love his work. I made an appointment with him and paid my deposit and was excited to get this long over due cover up ! He definitely did an amazing job. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and he sketched out exactly what I wanted ! i'm super happy with my tattoo and will definitely be coming back to Andy for more tattoos ! This place is super nice ! I've been to Art Machine for three tattoos from Andy Robinson in 2015-2016. Every experience was great! All the tattoos healed well and I always get compliments on them. Andy is super easy to work with and executed each tattoo perfectly. He's also really fun just to chat with. I was so happy to see that he recently returned to Art Machine. The other artists are also really talented and are always super welcoming and friendly when I've been there. The shop itself is really cool and clean. My sister and I came for our very first tattoos and were extremely happy with our experience. Everyone that worked here was friendly.  Dan was great & I like my tattoo.  However, this was my 1st one & I didn't ask about the price prior.  From what I learned from my friends that have numerous  tattoos is that I was overcharged.  I hope not the case but disappointed if I was taken advantage of due to my naivety. My husband had an off the wall from his younger years cross on his chest that he wanted covered up with a Polish eagle.  After searching through more shops and artists than I can begin to explain, he finally decided on Bobby Trefz.  The level of cleanliness he has going on at his station is amazing.  I don't think he could have wrapped, taped or covered more stuff than he did.  Considering the number of people I know who have gotten nasty infections after getting a tattoo....believe me this is something super important to consider when getting one. He has (I believe) 22 years of experience, so he clearly knows what he's doing, and that showed in his work.  Every line was precise, the color and shading were absolutely on point.  My husband couldn't have been happier with the result.  It was well worth the hour-plus trek from Jersey and we'll be driving down again soon. It was my first time getting a tattoo and I can honestly say I am so so happy that I came to AMP.  First of all, I visited a few places before deciding on where to get my tattoo done. Everyone that I interacted with at AMP was extremely respectful and helpful throughout the whole process.  This is really something I came to appreciate as that was not always the case at other places. Dan Anthony did my tattoo (instagram: scurvy_dan- check out his stuff!).  I emailed him with the design I wanted and he responded in less than 24 hours and schedule me for the same week. On the day of, he made me feel really comfortable and did a great job with the tattoo. A really good friend of mine (who had come to visit from halfway across the country) and I decided to get semi-matching eagle tattoos on our upper arms. It was going to be his fifth tattoo and my first. I'm super thrilled to let any readers of this review know that I honestly have no shortage of great things to say about our experience at AMP.We had originally walked in without an appointment kind of late last Monday, to see if they could squeeze us in before the end of the workday. There was no one available, but the guy at the front desk listened to us describe what we were looking to have done and looked at our inspiration materials and handed us the business cards of a couple of the artists who might be available later in the week and whose styles would be most compatible with our ideas. It was hardly a waste of a trip, as we definitely felt well taken care of even then, and I should add that we both walked out that evening very impressed just with the overall vibe, look, and cleanliness of the studio. It was really nice and the complete opposite of what I was expecting before we walked in. Very chill and relaxed.We ended up coming in for a late afternoon appointment with Andy last Thursday. Via email, we'd showed him our source material and in person, he took the time to look through it again as well as hear us describe our thoughts and ideas a second time. Then he walked over to a big table in the middle of the room, sat down, and sketched on his tablet for at least fifteen minutes. It made us feel good to know that he was really putting some serious thought and quality effort into creating a unique and worthwhile design in his style based on the idea we walked in with. When he did eventually come back to join us again in the waiting area, we were both immediately impressed and wowed with his sketch. During the actual process of getting the tattoo, Andy could not have been more welcoming. I never felt anxious or had a single worry. He told me what he was about to do before each new step and asked how I was doing every so often, and I felt very calm and comfortable in the chair. He didn't talk much otherwise, but I actually appreciated that since I knew it was because his attention was focused solely on the art he was creating.As I'm writing this review, our tattoos are healing very nicely and we both could not be happier with the work we each got. Prior to getting this tattoo, I was almost certain this would be a "one and done" kind of experience, but now I'm not so sure. If I were ever to decide to get another tattoo, chances are extremely high that I'd be heading back to AMP and hoping Andy could find a spot for me in his appointment schedule. Read Less

I don't have enough good things to say about my experience here. I wanted a fairly large memorial piece on my back/shoulder for my grandfather. I am not artistic but I did have sort of an idea of what I was looking for. I really needed an artist to fully realize it. I looked at many many online portfolios and ended up choosing Nick The Tailor. I had a consult with him in early Sept. We worked out what I was talking about, he took good notes and we made the appt for mid November. I think all the artists require a 100$ deposit to book appts.I got my tattoo yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased. Its exactly what I was hoping when I started this process. Large but feminine and really captures the memorial vibe but still very beautiful. Nick is so nice. He will talk to you but is quiet when concentrating. I like that about him. Also Once i needed a break to relax and another break to go to the bathroom. He gave me the time I needed and didn't make me feel like I was being too big of a pain in the butt. He is professional and takes his job seriously. Yeah I had to wait a bit to get an appt with him but frankly that doesn't seem like a "con" to me. I'd rather go to someone who is good enough TO have that kind of waitlist then just go anywhere and risk the (lifelong) outcome. Also, while slightly on the pricey side, you know what they say....you get what you pay for. This is on your body forever.....PAY THE MONEY. Everyone else I dealt with was nice and helpful too. I didn't get the "too cool for school" vibe you get at some shops. I have another tattoo I'm eyeing and will def be going to Nick again when I'm ready. He is top of the line.....Thanks Nick! I'm not a cool person who gets tattoos on the regular.  For this reason I did a lot of research when choosing a place to get my first tattoo.  After much consideration I chose AMP due to their stellar reviews.  I chose Nick (the Tailor) as my artist and was put on his waiting list.  A month later I went in and got exactly what I was looking for.  AMP was clean, the artists were friendly, and it was an overall laid back and relaxed experience.  Nick was great and well worth the wait.  I'm already planning my next piece with him.  If you're looking for a fun and professional spot for your next tattoo, whether it be your first or your last, check out AMP.  Highly recommend! I just got my hummingbird tattoo done this past Saturday by Bobby. He's new to the shop and area so I made the selection solely off his portfolio. It couldn't be more true to his skill set! I am in awe by the amount of detail and the color pallet he worked with. Pictures do not show its justice! I would and have recommended bobby to all my friends and those looking to get a new tattoo. He's very kind, patient and focused on perfection. The shop was also very elegant and unexpected because it was so nice. I have never been nor seen a place as nice as this for a tattoo parlor. When I first stepped into Art Machine, I thought I had the wrong address.  The comfy couches in the waiting area and the open and airy feeling are probably what confused me.  The space is huge and things are clean and this place seems to run like a well-oiled machine (one that produces art, hence the name).I have half a dozen tattoos and had heard about Art Machine from some friends, so I did some research and found Gia, who was willing to cover-up/re-work a flower tattoo on my shoulder that I had done elsewhere in the city.  I had never loved the tattoo and it had faded/smeared and I wanted something fresh and bold.  Gia communicated with me over email and I sent her loads of pics of my tat in its current state.  On the day I showed up to receive my new and improved artwork, Gia made me feel at ease, first drawing some improvements on my current tattoo.  Then, she literally re-did the entire thing, adding some new leaves and refreshing the old colors, making them bold and vibrant - exactly what I had wanted.It's been a few days since I had my tattoo done by Gia and it looks amazing, even in the healing stages.  I've received so many compliments on the colors and the artwork and every time I look in the mirror, I feel happy about my tattoo as opposed to just "meh," which is how I felt before Gia did her magic on it.I've definitely found my new tattoo spot.
