Okay, this is gonna be a long one. Also, we have since gotten these tattoos covered. On February 14th of this year my boyfriend and I went here to get matching crown tattoos. We were waiting at least an hour before the artist got out of class (we are all students at KU) and I must say that each artist we encountered was extremely kind and friendly. Carly was the one in the end who decided to do our tattoos. The one artist there, Abby, had worked there and tattooed there since... she was fifteen and now seventeen. When I asked her if she had any tattoos, her response was: "no, I'm not old enough". How can you be an artist when you're not even old enough to be tattooed? I don't know about you, but I don't want to get tattooed by a fifteen year old kid. Yes, she's seventeen now but seriously? A little unprofessional in my opinion, and this was only the beginning. After a two hour wait altogether, it was time to get tattooed. Carly used a stencil and placed the design on my arm, had me sit upright in her chair, and began to tattoo me. Right away, things seemed strange: she kept going over the same line repeatedly, thickening it where it didn't need to be, and she used green soap, which is appropriate to use when cleaning tattoos, but you are supposed to use less than a quarter of the soap mixed with water because it is very potent and has a high alcohol content. The solution should be clear like water, and their solution was BRIGHT YELLOW. It burned and stung when she applied it to my skin, which I'm sure only contributed to how awful the tattoo felt from then on. Anyway, when she was done with me, it was my boyfriend's turn. Mind you, my tattoo took over an hour to complete. I have numerous other tattoos even larger than the crown and they barely took an hour, and they're much more detailed and colorful. During my boyfriend's tattoo, she kept complaining she was hungry and her and the other girls ordered dinner. Carly tattooed my boyfriend in a quicker fashion than me and he was done in less than an hour, more than likely because she was hungry and just wanted to be finished working. Fast forward to once the tattoos are healed, my boyfriend's became infected because she tore into his skin, making it raw and resulting in multiple areas of scar tissue. This is a consequence of overworking the skin past it's breaking point. The lines on the tattoos? Horrible and wobbly, the complete opposite of straight clean lines. The colors, which were supposed to be a deep red, turned out as a pale pink after it healed. I was beyond disappointed, especially because I had high hopes for the shop and the girls, who I cannot stress enough were VERY sweet and VERY respectful, and I'm sorry, but their work just missed the mark. I believe with practice and small projects, the artists have the potential to be amazing and accomplish beautiful tattoos like I know they can, these tattoos just weren't it. See More Read Less
