Took an idea into the shop on Monday and talked with Matt. He took measurements of the area and told me he'd have it ready for an appointment on Tuesday. I was pleasantly happy I was able to schedule so quickly.Went in the next day a few minutes early and Matt showed me the design he drew up. I loved it. I don't write reviews much any more (read: ever), but Dead Gods deserves a definitive 5 star rating.  I'd had an idea gestating for oh, about a decade, and I'd finally settled on Dead Gods for the implementation.  I chose Tyson Dodge as my artist, and after an initial consultation, we pulled the trigger yesterday.  Tyson exceeded my expectations, to say the least, in his interpretation of the style and design of my tattoo.  I'm beyond thrilled.  The shop is clean and everyone there is extremely friendly.Bonus: Tyson can really sing! I have been going to Dead Gods for the last 7- 8 years. There is a reason why I am a loyal customer and its not just because they produce some amazing artwork (though admittedly that helps). The atmosphere, the community, the vibe, that shop is just fun to be around. You can really see how the employees work together as a family unit in all of its hilarity and quirkiness. All that being said, its important to acknowledge how good the tattoos are coming out of that shop. I have a very colorful half sleeve that we are turning into a full sleeve and the color has remained vibrant despite me having it for many years. I still commonly get people stopping me in the street to ask who does my tattoo work. It all started, as it often does, with an idea.I had a design sketched up for over a year before deciding to go through with it. It wasn't my first tattoo, but it was going to be my biggest, spanning across my shoulders and upper back. With a tattoo of this size, it was crucial to select a shop and artist that I would be comfortable working with. I visited a few shops and met with a handful of artists; I chose Shalynn at Dead Gods Tattoo.First, I'd like to touch on the space. The shop is clean, cool, and natural light comes in through big windows. The decor consists of skeletal remains with a Disney's Haunted Mansion feel. An eclectic mix of tunes ranging from indie to metal and EDM blessed my ears. I could live here.All the artists that work here seem to get along really well with each other, doing small favors for each other, but also joking around like friends, it made for a pleasant atmosphere.Most importantly, the artist that made it happen: Shalynn. I think she was as excited and eager as I was to get the ink flowing and that kind of passion matters because it shows in the art. She did a great job listening to what I wanted, answering my questions, calming my worries, and making sure I was comfortable for the 15+ hours I spent getting my skin stabbed repeatedly with needles. Greg is great!! I found the shop and him on Instagram and he was running a deal on a few simple arrow designs. he was flexible on appointment time (we were driving from Beaverton), super down to earth, and really polite when explaining everything. This was my first tattoo that i actually went through with getting. I've had encounters with other artists who have been total assholes when i ask questions-- Greg was to the point and super chill about all my questions. He even made adjustments to the design a couple times and still only charged his special price. My boyfriend and i got matching arrows, which i know is corny, but nobody made us feel judged or like it was stupid. The photo is like 5 days healed.. a little scabby, but it's simple and done well! 10/10 would recommend this shop and all of the artists to anyone who asks. Read Less

I had searched for a tattoo shop for some time. I have become extremely picky with letting anyone put ink on me. Seriously, Dead Gods tattoos is the most awesome place! Been thinking writing this review or not but my madness got over me  Went to this tattoo salon about a year ago, checked yelp reviews before drive there seems legit. Walk in made appointment for simple tattoo (i draw it on piece of paper) 12 year old kid can do it,  just straight lines and color. So long story short tattoo on my neck got so messed up,when i got home i though it would heal and lines would be straight, also he said to come back for touch up after 3-4weeks i think. So i came for touch up and guy made it even worse. Lines are all messed up and now i have to cover it. Totally unprofessional work !!!!! Payed 360 with 40$ tips total 400$. Tyson did an amazing perfect job of replicating my Papa's writing from a card. He was able to piece together exactly what I wanted it to say, and took the time to show me a couple layout variations. I had a tattoo done on Monday and it was an excellent experience. David was my artist and conceptually and technically he was fantastic! My piece was down my entire left side of my body on my ribs and his light hands made it so we got done under the estimated time that was for seeing it and there was little to no pain involved either. Today, I got a memorial piece for my grandma that recently passed away. She taught me how to knit as a child, and I thought it would be awesome to get something that represented that memory. This review is for Shaylnn. She is extremely rude and not understanding of what you want and why it is important to you. I came in to get a tattoo from Austin and he recommended Shalynn "because she is new to the shop" but I really think its just because she's so awful no one wants to get anything done by her. I said okay, after looking at her artwork and I am now 100 dollars poorer from this deposit I got ripped off on. I explained that I wanted 3 elephants with a sunset and tree in the background that fades into my natural skin color. I did not want a blunt rigid outlined tattoo. I sent her pictures of the EXACT colors in the sunset, the 3 elephants and the patterns on them, and the tree. I was required to pay 100 dollars without seeing her idea first and when I came to the appointment, she had drawn up a huge circle with one LARGE elephant in the middle and a giant tree coming out of it with maybe a few centimeters of sunset inside of it? Literally so far away from what I explained. I was very nice and told her the sentimental value behind the 3 elephants and what they represented to me. IWhich she then replied... "oh well what you described to me was an 'EHHH' tattoo so I made this for you" and just stares at me like I am just going to say okay and pay her to draw this awful tattoo on me. She then insults me by saying "well I was just trying to stay in your low budget" when I am clearly not giving in to her stare. I told her not to worry about the money and she then proceeds to give me attitude and is very frustrated I am not just shutting up and letting her do what she wants. In what world does she think people care what she likes? This is a piece that means a lot to me that is going on MY back, and she wants to insult me by telling me it was basically a stupid idea and then acts like there is nothing she can do to fix it. As if it is this or nothing. I left and was supposed to come back in a couple hours while she was "seeing what she could do with this" and I chose not to return. I feel she would have done a poor job because she was already so irritated with me not liking her idea. I called and left a voicemail (because no one ever answers their phone) explaining what happened and never got a call back. I lost 100 dollars because some incompetent "tattoo artist" wasn't allowed to draw some hideous miscommunicated 'EHHH' tattoo all over my whole back. Save your money and either go to another shop or at least not with Shaylnn. Read Less

25% of body covered in tattoos here. It's a nice studio, but the receptionist was extremely annoying. He constantly went on and on about how one of my tattoo was not "true" Japanese style. Even though it was done in Japan. By a Japanese national. -and it was a copy of traditional Japanese art. Artists were pretty good though. They really wanted to do their own original work even though I brought in sketches. If you do bring in artwork you want, they expect you to have the artists permission. I don't know if this is an American thing or not but was definitely not the case in Japan. They do good work and the prices are typical. Read Less

Went in on a whim, no appointment, hoping they'd have time for my guy and I to both get a little piece. Someone had time for me but my guy was told he'd have to cone back. I sat down with Shalynn who is new at the shop and 5 hours later, I left with the most amazing piece. She is a master at realism and so long as she's around, I will never see another artist. Half way through my tattoo, my bf went to set up an appointment for his and David said he'd be able to do his right then. 2 1/2 hours later he came back to sit with me with an amazing black and grey tribute to his dad and uncle. I just got a tattoo from Tyson and it's perfect. It was a small design with script that required precision and attention to detail, and he got it just right. My best friend and I went to Dead Gods Tattoo completely on a whim. We weren’t sure if they would be able to accommodate two walk-in’s on a Saturday afternoon. David was available for us, and he totally killed it. What we wanted was small, but we were also picky about it. I don’t think either of us have had that much fun in a tattoo shop before. David was so amazing, and hilarious, and he got our tattoos completely perfect. We left saying that we will absolutely be back for any future ink needs that we may have. The shop itself was something to see as well. Went here on a recommendation from a friend to see Luke. He totally crushed it. Came in, unannounced, with a very thin idea of what we wanted...which was to add on to a very old existing tattoo. He put up with our weird requests and ended up running with an idea and making it waaaay better than we could have hoped. I came here after going to a place down the road (connected to Taqueria Seven Estrellas), that told me they couldn't do a tattoo of snowflake in blue ink... After full well knowing what I wanted AND tattooing my two friends that came with me (we were all getting tattoos together). So we came down to Dead Gods and was immediately greeted warmly by Luke. My friends and I asked if he could tattoo a snowflake in blue ink. Of course the answer was yes (because what tattoo artist can't do a simple snowflake). And I'm actually so happy the other tattoo shop was incapable of this because Luke from Dead Gods became my new favorite person.Luke was fantastic and I highly suggest him! I found this place after some research and got hooked up with Davie (David Goldstein). I originally came in to get a cover up done on a quarter sleeve. Unfortunately I was on a time crunch cause I was moving to Arizona. I had already put down my deposit and spoke with Davie about what we can do but wouldn't have enough time to get it fully done. I had an original tattoo on my neck of four roses and we decided to do a cover up on that piece instead of doing the cover up on my quarter sleeve. Davie came up with an awesome design of two bigger roses to cover up the original. Davie is a true professional when it comes to a tattoo artist. He worked well with me and what I was after. The guy is creative and it definitely shows in his work. We got the tattoo done in two sessions (two brutal sessions since it was on my neck lol) and Davie was great during each session. The first session was 5 hours long and the last was about 4 hours. Overall with the time constraints and what was being done Davie was clutch and I couldn't be happier with the end result. My tattoo needs one more pass through to better cover up some spots but overall the piece is amazing. I definitely recommend checking out Dead Gods and ask for Davie. Read Less

I am happy to give 5 stars on my first review since my Father died. About a year ago, My dad was diagnosed with a pretty rare form of brain cancer. It took his life from us about 2.5 months ago. I knew I wanted a tattoo to commemorate his memory, but I took me some time to figure out what that looked like for me. After taking some time to think about what would be good enough, I decided to get a tattoo of something he would say to me and my siblings when he told us how much he loved us. He would always say, "I love you so much, my heart soars like a hawk." Anytime he was happy with something we did, he would use this expression.I did a ton of research to find the best tattoo shop in Portland. After much searching I stumbled upon Dead Gods Tattoo Parlor. My mother also came with me and had a beautiful tattoo done on her ankle. We both had a general idea of what we wanted them to look like, but our tattoo artist Ashley took a lot of time perfecting both of our designs, and making them unique to us.We sent them emails of what we wanted them to look like so she could prepare them before we arrived.Our sessions began about 30 minutes after arriving for our appointments. We both filled out wavers and sat down to go through Ashley's tattoo book of all the work she's done. We are both so happy with the results of our tattoos and couldn't be more satisfied. They both took about 20 min each to complete, but they are both relatively small tattoos. She gave us very thorough "aftercare" instructions to follow which have been super easy. 2 weeks later they both are healing nicely and look fantastic! I couldn't recommend Ashely more. Out of all my tattoos, I found myself the most blown away by the quality, detail, and care Brandon put into my most recent piece. Unlike many other places, the walls at Dead Gods are not covered in generic flash. They call themselves a custom shop for a reason. I came in with a  general sense of what I wanted, and Brandon flushed out the details, creating something far beyond the limited scope of my imagination and expectation. While the artists at other places may sometimes rush through the process, Brandon spent an hour consulting with me beforehand and added impeccable detail to the final product. I had a couple of friends suggest that I head over to see about getting a new tattoo.  I was expecting the same old stuck up front of house and artists.  Low and behold they were no stuck up or assholes.  Mason greeted me and asked me what I was looking for then directed me toward Brandon to consult.  I gave Brandon my idea which he was willing to work with and came back with a really cool idea, so we ran with it.  The tattoo was awesome.  My mother whom hates tattoos said " that is the most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen."  Coming from my mom that is a huge compliment.  All of the artists were very personable and friendly. Me and my roommate came in for a couple small tattoos and a consultation. Not only did these guys make us feel incredibly welcomed but the atmosphere in the shop was light, fun and super inviting. Definitely made us feel like we were with a group of friends, joking around, yet at the same time incredibly professional. David did my tatto and it looks freaking awesome.I will update when it is completely done. So I was a first time tattoo virgin. I walked in and my artist imediately met me and started asking what I wanted. Davy was stoked to do the art which is awesome. I had checked other shops and was disappointed that other shops wanted to do a 5 minute mock up and bounce me out ASAP. One shop said they could do my tattoo in 3 hours. Davy and I have spent close to 9 hours already on it and have another 3 to go. Now the reason for this is because Davy is doing it right, not just pumping out a quick tattoo for cash. Davy spent a lot of time mocking up a drawing and working hard to make sure it was perfect before the needle ever touched skin. If you're a first timer or even a seasoned tattoo enthusiasts. Do yourself a favor and check in here. As a first timer my number one issue was cleanliness, this shop has that. It is so clean, so professional, and the artists are so good. I will never go elsewhere. Davy and I are even already talking about my next tattoo. Eventually I want some work from will and keoki too. But for now, Davy is covering me with the art I like. I'm 33 and never got a tattoo due to pain fear. Davy and will quickly cut my anxieties and we're very convincing. Now I actually an kinda addicted to the feel. I looked around the area for different artist before I decided on Joe at Dead God Tattoo! (I didn't find anyone that could do the detail I wanted until him) This was my first bigger tattoo and I knew I wanted realistic style roses as well as a realistic 3/4ths moon! I had my consultation and scheduled my appointment for August (they also added me to the cancelation list for Joe, just incase he had an opening sooner). 2days later I got a call there was an opening and was in getting my tattoo that next week! Joe made sure I liked the drawing, size and placement before anything else. I loved it all so we got started! I made it 4hrs in total (didn't get to finish it but have another appointment set to do so)! Joe was awesome the whole time!! Make sure I was doing okay, breathing (lol), trying to distract me as best he could! We took breaks when I needed it, and applied numbing spray when we could! I recommend Joe to anyone for their tattoos, he is awesome and I can't wait to finish this piece, and possible more in the future! The shop's atmosphere is great as well! These guys are so very entertaining when you go in. If you want a quality tattoo every artist here is amazing. I have been going to Will since I was 18 (now almost 24) and he has yet to disappoint. I've had a friend go to Bacon and he did wonderful. The other artist I have only seen them at work and their past works and it is beautifully done. Clean and sanitary place.
