I went in to Hot Rod Betties on July 24th, 2017 because I found out that I was getting my first paid article published and wanted to get a pencil tattoo to signify the memory. I had always heard good things and my mom was tattooed by Rene when she was young. I came in and Mike greeted me. I wasn't looking to get it done that day and was willing to wait, but he told me that the tattoo would be so easy for him and he had time to do it that day for something around $50-$60. I looked at his work in his portfolio and on his Instagram and he had definitely done pieces more difficult than what I was looking for, with success. (Which I now think were stolen photos. And after reading other reviews, have found one where somebody else claims that Mike definitely does that). Mike was kind during the whole process of deciding the location, as I continued to take a few minutes to place the stencil. During the tattoo, his friend of some sort hung around us. He kept asking how much longer until he (Mike) was done. I believe it had something to do with riding together. Mike seemed to rush through my tattoo because of this and wasn't very happy when I asked him to even the lines in the pencil. He convinced me that with shading and after it had healed, it would look better. I decided to trust him, especially because he does free retouches for life.After a few weeks I had to accept the fact that the tattoo was truly just horribly done with shaky lines and without proper proportions- something that I am genuinely embarrassed to have on my arm. I messaged the Facebook page and Rene said she would take care of it but then said her other artist would do it because she (Rene) was very busy. This was in August. The artist and I set a consultation only for September 19th but I then fell ill and was unable to make it and was sick for many months (am still recovering). I recognize this part was not their fault. In the end of October, I messaged the artist again a few times, trying to get them to make an appointment with me with very sparse responses from them. In November, I messaged the Hot Rod Betties Page again letting them know about what was happening and that I was still unhappy. They messaged back saying that the artist would personally reach out to me "in the next day or two." It is now the end of the year and I still have not received a message from the artist, and have this unfortunate tattoo on my arm. I don't want this review to turn business away from the company as a whole, I would just like to see a resolution of some sort. Read Less

I love oming to hot rod betties. Every time I have, I have been treated respectfully always gotten the kind of tattoo that I wanted they're very careful to make sure it's exactly where I want it and the size and they have no problem readjusting anything so when you walk out of there you walked out with a really good tattoo. Tom did my 18 year old daughters first tattoo as a mother I was so nervous, but he was so great with her and it turned out beautiful. It was a very sentimental tattoo and he did it justice, when she came in concerned about something after he eased her mind and told her he'd touch it up when it was completely healed. Had a tattoo done on the 4th of July in Mill City, don't recall the artists name but I have been bouncing back and forth between writing this review or trying to get them to fix it for the last 5 months but finally decided if they can't even do their own flash designs right the first time or make a straight line, I don't want them touching me again. My tattoo is raised above the skin like it was to deep or something not sure but I have several tats and this has never happened befor. Me and my daughter got mother daughter tattoos and hers is fine except for a spot here and there but mine is all bad and I got it done the end of oct. Not happy with it at all and it's in a place where everyone can see it. Hurts when bumped. :( Read Less

Michelle has been my tattoo artist for 2 yrs, When I went to her the 1st time, I had an idea, I visited several other tattoo shops but not one of them made me feel like I was important. I brought my idea to her, she understood, worked with me to draw up my vision, which is not complicated, three hearts with diamond appearance, later adding a bracelet and two more hearts. I got my first tattoo here. They were recommended and the tattoo was simple. I had no experience in tattoo parlors before and I was nervous about getting the tattoo. When I arrived for my appointment Erin, the artist assigned to me, seemed to know what I was there for. We discussed what I wanted and Erin's demeanor changed. She went on the internet to find some ideas and I drew out an idea of what I wanted. She seems very annoyed and frustrated that I didn't like her first idea. I asked for shading on the outside to make it look 3D and she told me I didn't need it. She added shading to the inside of the tattoo without my requesting it. When it came time to put the stencil on my arm I explained that I was nervous and wanted to get the location right. I asked that it be moved twice each time apologizing for being uncertain, but that as this was going to be on my body for the rest of my life I wanted to get it right. She never once said she understood and she continued to act frustrated.  I got the tattoo. That night it bled ink. Another tattoo artist told me that was likely because she went too deep. Once it healed (and it has now been over a month) it became clear that the outline did not meet in places and the single color that was to fill in the  lines is missing in multiple places. The tattoo is just a black outline with a single color fill. I can see why Erin might have been frustrated with me, but I feel like she took out her frustration and anger on me and now I have a permanent reminder. I can't imagine anything less professional. I should have seen the red flags but I thought I was just nervous. I would not return here, nor would I recommend this place. I saw other artists that seemed to be doing amazing work. Received my first tattoo at Betties, Michelle was the artist. Had it done in their mobile bus set up. Michelle was very careful, clean and exacting.
