When I finally decided to take the plunge (after 47 years of resisting) I did my research. Since I like to support local business, I wanted one of the shops in the Milwaukie area to do a custom piece that I had in mind featuring my zombie novel's logo and my favorite member of KISS. I visited them all (technically I did not visit one because an hour after they were supposed to be open there was still no sign of anybody and I gave up and left). When I walked into Star Tattoo with my wife, we were first greeted by the artist's mom who is proudly sporting some of Draygon's work. After about an hour of talking with Draygon, I knew he was the man. He warned me about how long it could take and that with him being a one-man shop, it might not be as quick as I wanted. I gave him the stuff I had for him to use to create the piece, my deposit, and waited. It did take a couple of weeks for him to get to sketching the idea for my piece (as he warned) but it was worth it. Once he got to work, I found that he was a blast to just talk to while he worked. Because of the size of the piece, I was there for a few hours the first time and then again when I came in for the finishing work. I saw him interact with a few potential customers and he had no problem telling somebody he did not think he was the right person for a specific piece and then referred them to a few places that might work out. It is obvious that he loves what he does and is proud of his work. He is now the ONLY person I will be going to in the future. I have since been back for two more and have several planned. I previously was tattooed by Mav at Deluxe, and don't get me wrong he is great. I decided I wanted to go in and talk to Dragon at Star Tattoo because he was so close to my house. I really liked Dragon's books and samples of his work so I made a deposit. I came in wanting 2 tattoos, a large Celtic lotus flower around my leg and a Celtic motherhood knot on the back of my neck. I ended up getting one more, Dragon corrected some lettering that Willow (boo) had totally screwed up. It ended up being 5+ hours of tattooing, but it was worth it and the tats look amazing. About a year later I came in with a bracelet tattoo of lotus flowers that I really thought was nice. Dragon re-drew the main flower and it was so amazing it made the original one I brought in look stupid. That is my favorite tattoo so far. I totally trust Dragon with my ink. This is something on my body for the rest of my life, I want to be happy and proud of what I get, so I will keep going back to Dragon. I just got my second Tat from Dragon, my daughter, and sister in law have also gotten original Tat's from Dragon. My brother has the best re-do of any tattoo I have ever seen, Dragon was able to save his orignal tattoo design that was a total hack job, add to it and create an AWSOME piece of body art! As for the Boom, person that was talked about be ""NoneYa-"" he left Dragon in a lurch, did not tell him where he would be, and Dragon has had to fix 20 of the 30 tat's Boom did while he was at the shop. He started charging Boom's clients for touch-ups because he did not know where to send them and he was fronting materials and time out of pocket! My family has had a 5 1/2 year relationship with Dragon, found him to be honest, fair priced, and one of the BEST original tattoo artists in the PDX area! Read Less

I recently went on a hunt for a tattoo artist that could do a custom tattoo. After going to many shops and looking at all the portfolios, and talking with all the artist, I found myself most comfortable at Star Tattoo. Dragon worked with me to come up with a custom piece that I was scared to get done, due to it being so meaningful I didn’t want to have it messed up. Dragon made me feel very relaxed, and accomplished my tattoo, JUST how I saw it in my head! I LOVE my new tattoo, and would recommend this shop to everyone! The only thing good that has ever come out of this salon is the artist Boom. Dragon with held contact information from my friend and I claiming that our original artist skipped out. He wanted to charge us a fee for an additional tattoo in order to touch our originals up. He is a greedy, lying pack rack, who is only out for your, money. Dragon owns this salon and is the most amazing artist I have dealt with. Not only is the shop clean and neat with THOUSANDS of designs to choose from, he also will take the time to create the vision that you have in your head and puts it on paper. I also wanted to make sure that my design wouldn't be copied and he will guarantee that your design remains your own. I used to work with his mom and she raved about her son, as mom's do but I was curious. I made an appt with him and he listened to what I had to say, drew it out, called me to review and approve it! The other tat's that I have had done pale in comparison. After eight long years without getting another tattoo, i decided it was time. I checked out several establishments and found Dragon, at Star tattoo, to be the most personable and friendly. I only had a couple tattoos when I first moved to Portland. After finding Star and talking with Dragon I'm well on my way to being covered with color. He's very personable and makes you feel comfortable when you're in the chair. Their aftercare is easy to follow and works awesome.
