I did a matching safety pin tattoo along with my daughter. Although my daughter has many tattoos, this was my first, and I was nervous. I adore Jim, and I love my sleeve tattoo! I came to Jim to have a little corrective work done on my first tattoo. I loved his artistry and the way that he worked with me so much that over the course of the next few months, one thing led to another, and we added more as ideas cropped up. Yeah a Tattoo parlor in Lake O? The only tattoo parlor in Lake O. I'll admit- I was initially apprehensive. However, I emailed Jim, and he was professional, courteous, and responsive.  He was willing to work with my schedule, my budget, and even texted to check on me when I had a rxn to the ink. No frills, no hipsters, and no douches that you usually find in a studio.  He usually just books appts one on one, so the general public is not coming in, and staring at you like a zoo animal while you're being worked on.I am no stranger to tattoo parlor. I went in to check out the shop a few weeks before I got my tattoo, and I was really impressed with how nice, friendly, and professional Jim is. His studio is is kept incredibly clean. I didn't have a lot of background knowledge about getting a tattoo, and Jim was very upfront with me about how the entire process would go. The tattoo that I wanted held a lot of emotional significance, and Jim interpreted my vision perfectly. I love my tattoo now; it's beautiful. Probably airing a little to much about myself here, but I have two "bits of art" from the fine owner of Octupus Ink, Jim.  Clean and yes it is actually in the belly of the suburban (beast) environment that was close to home.  Jim does nice pre-work in the drawings and yeah know....who ever is running the drill ought to be someone you can stand being around for a few hours and I remember Jim as a good hearted guy who warned before anything was going to "really hurt."  Jim also provides good aftercare and touch ups.  If you do not want to venture into some of the darker corners of Portland, this is a great alternative! Got my first tattoo done by Jim, and I will definitely be going back for more. First off my tattoo looks amazing. I brought in my paintball jersey to get part of it tattooed on my leg, and it looks EXACTLY like the jersey, I am extremely happy with it and Jim is an amazing artist. Second of all the shop is very very very clean, its clean enough you could preform surgery in there. Jim is also extremely nice and easy to talk to, which makes getting a tattoo that much easier. My son told me about Jim Knoeppel at Octopus Ink. Who knew you could get a cool tattoo in Lake Oswego! He has a reassuring way if you are getting your first tattoo. I now have four, all from Jim, and am planning on more! Even though I live in NE PDX now I will still drive back to Lake O. Jim is a wonderful talented artist and all around nice guy and even though he wants to do what you ask him to do, he is professional enough to make suggestions for the better. Jim gave me my first tattoo and I am in love with it! I could not have asked for anything better. Almost all of his work is one of a kind and ALL of his work is class A, top of line, absolutely fabulous. He is a great artist, all of his work that he's done and all of the sketches that you see when you walk into his shop show that. I had an idea for my third tattoo that was extremely detailed and required some superfine line work. I'd checked out Jim's website, and it looked like he might be up to the challenge - and he was, no doubt about it. Jim is the most incredible artist, which is obvious the second you walk into his studio and see his sketches, and that talent reflects, of course, in the tattoos. "A tattoo parlor in Lake Oswego?  You've got to be kidding!" I thought to myself.  A friend had mentioned his studio, and I checked out his website.  I was impressed by his portfolio - had some pretty standard tattoo artist work, but some kinda trippy art with fine linework and great colors. The third tattoo I wanted was going to be a challenge for any artist who wanted to take it on, I knew.  Pretty much all lines, close together, and amazingly detailed.  On the other hand, if someone botched it up, it would've been easy enough to color over and still make it look good.  I emailed Jim, the proprietor, and he agreed to take it on.  I wasn't sure what to expect when I got to his studio, but I was pleasantly surprised.  It has to be one of the cleanest, most comfortable places I've been in to get ink.  Immaculate, a lot of natural lighting, and just plain cozy.  He has a giant artboard on one wall, with his sketches pinned up; he does some great artwork, on and off skin.  His equipment is well-cared for, and it was evident that he takes great pride in cleanliness and sterility for his work.  He has a huge range of colors available, and either a chair or table to lay on during your tattoo.  To top it all off, Jim is one of the nicest guys I've ever met.  He's friendly, and fun to chat with.  He has a way of putting people at ease, and makes you feel comfortable even though you're about to be stabbed repeatedly with a needle.  I will ABSOLUTELY be going to Octopus Ink Tattoo for my fourth tattoo... and fifth... and sixth... I had Jim at Octopus Ink draw a portrait like picture of my niece holding my pup. I showed him a picture from my cell phone and he spent some time drawing an excellent picture of her. When I saw it I thought something was a little bit off, knowing that it would be hard to encompass how she looked in the cell phone photo. Jim took even more of his own time to draw the perfect picture of her. I took one look at his final product and knew I was ready to have him do the tattoo. Now a year later I still love my tattoo. Don't let the Lake Oswego location fool you. This place is the real deal. Jim is a true artist on a level that transcends just tattoos, and a very personable dude that will work with you and treat you right to get your ink dialed in properly. I love the spot too because it's not like many tattoo joints where you are in a cubicle with 5 other people getting inked around you and the artist chatting with his friends in the process etc. It's straight 1 on 1, and the studio is like a jived out doctor's office with comforting tunes of whatever sort suits you at the time. I live 2000 miles away now and it sucks because I want to get tattoos but I don't feel comfortable doing so anywhere else. Read Less

I found Jim by fate,by going to a place I had work done at,but the lady was no longer there.He took a Horrible Tattoo and covered it with a Beautiful piece of work,that was 4 tattoos ago (50 + hours) and Jim is the ONLY 1 who will do any work on me.He listens to your ideas and there is nothing but perfection from him.He's easy to work with,his shop is clean and easy to find and even on a bus line.I highly recommend Jim for any INK !!!
