Hands down the best tattoo and piercing shop in the Portland metro area... And, yes, I would know... As I have been to a TON of them prior to finding out about Destination Ink.The shop - CLEAN (which, in my opinion, honestly should be one of the most important aspects in choosing a place to get a tattoo or piercing), and the atmosphere is inviting.The Crew - Over the year's (2013-present) my husband and I feel like we have had an awesome opportunity to really get to know the whole DI crew, and they're all not only just amazing at what they do, but just downright chill people too. Nik (owner and tattoo artist) was the first of the DI crew that we met... from the very first time we walked through DI's door he was willing to LISTEN. We knew from the initial visit and meeting with Nik that we had FINALLY found the artist and shop we had been searching for for year's prior. I made an appt with him for the following week to get started... And NO JOKE, we were at DI every month, at times multiple times a month, for a year straight. And now (5 year's later) have only gone about 4 month's without making an appt!! He is an extremely talented artist, point blank. He listens to what you want, makes sure you are comfortable throughout the whole process, he makes you laugh and have a good time in the chair; easy going, and is patient. Christina (tattoo artist) is also a very talented... I mean seriously... Go check out her work!! Although we haven't had any work done by her ourselves (yet), we do know someone who has so we've seen her work firsthand. She's also very welcoming, and easy to talk to.Jason (tattoo artist) is the newest of the crew at DI, and we haven't had too much time to get to know him yet but I can say this... He can draw!... I was checking out some of his sketches the last time I was in for an appt. And just from the one or two times that we have met him I can also tell you that he is very polite, and professional.Megan (piercer) is driven. We literally got to watch her go from apprentice to piercer, and that was pretty cool in itself. About a year ago she pierced my niece's lip... She made it a fun, and memorable experience, for all of us. Like the entire crew at DI, Megan is just easy to be around, talk to, laugh with, and just have a good time.And of course we could not forget Mike (piercer), everybody loves Mike ;). We have not personally been pierced by him (he did stretch my husband's ear's tho). But I had a friend that he pierced. Short version - she really wanted to get her lip pierced, but was extremely anxious due to bad experiences with piercings before... Mike went above and beyond to calm her nerves and explain the whole process thoroughly and answer any and all questions she had. He was very understanding with her, and did everything he could to make it a good experience for her.... And it was. My point - After 5 year's of going here for all of our tattoo and piercing wants... it's safe for us to say (as well as for you to believe) that when it comes to all the important aspects you should be looking for in this line of business (cleanliness, professionalism, skill, honesty, price, and comfort) - ARE ALL AT DESTINATION INK. I absolutely love this place. From tattoos to piercings.  Nik has given me several AMAZING tattoos and Mike has given me several piercings. Mike even did my daughter's first ear piercing at around 6 months of age. They are great at walking you through each step as they go.  Great with aftercare instructions as well. I remember I had gone and gotten my nose pierced. At a different place and came to Mike because I had gotten a dirty piercing and had a major infection going on and Ill never forget how gentle he was removing and cleaning it for me. I don't review but I had to this time, Just walked out of that shop disappointed, didn't get my nose pierced along with making my friends completely uncomfortable, at the end of our visit we all didn't get pierced... Communication was terrible, wasn't letting me know the process, pretty much made me feel I wasn't ready for my nose. He refused piercing me when I jumped. End of story he made us feel so uncomfortable, and disappointed with the customer service and communication. I want a piercer that will make me feel comfortable and tell me the process!! I've NEVER felt the need to leave a bad yelp review before, but my experience today has changed that. I came here in December to get my nose ring changed from a hoop to a stud. I brought my own jewelry and was charged $5 for the piercer's time to change it - totally fair.I came back here last week to change back to the hoop I was previously wearing. The man who greeted me abruptly told me the price was $10 to change jewelry. He then looked at the hoop I brought in and said it was the wrong size - that it would be too big for my nose piercing. I left due to his rudeness.Today I called ahead and asked about the pricing again, and the person I spoke to told me it would only cost $5 to do what I wanted. The same man from last week greeted me when I arrived and agreed to do it for $5 after I told him that I called ahead about pricing. This time when he looked at the hoop I brought in (the SAME one as a week ago), he said it was too SMALL for my piercing!I immediately left, since it became clear to me this man had no idea what he was saying or doing. If you want to get pierced here, ask for the female piercer - she took care of me the first time and did a great job. P.S. Just got my nose pierced here while I was on vacation, the girl sold me the upgrade jewelry because she said it would be better for my nose when in fact it's not the post was too short so my nose stud sunk in!!! Went to my piercer out here Cali and he told me I can't get pierced for two weeks and as a piercer she should've known to only use that on clients who were healed. Super disappointed!!! Read Less

If I could give it zero I would, I came here with my sister I was gonna get a tattoo and my sister was going to get a piercing,  we went in and the guy in the front who I think was receptionist was just in there gossiping with some lady didn't even say nothing to us at all.  He called over a lady and when she finally came out she askd what we needed help with,  I asked her how much we're her piercings and that I had seen on there website that they had like 2 for 45$ , which I think I was confusing with another place and the dumb b**** looked at me like I was crazy,  it was just a dam question.... I wanted to take a moment to respond to second drawer downs review. We have a sign posted on the door (I'd include pictures if I could) that says we don't allow children in the shop. As for the chemicals we use all most every shop uses madicide as a cleaner because it is tuberculocidal cleaner which is what is required by the state. The warnings on the label warn its hazardous to inhale one of the reasons we wear face masks when spraying. One of our tattoo artists had just sprayed down his station (the one closest the the lobby) before beginning to work on a very large tattoo. We don't allow children in partially because of the chemicals and partially because it can be distracting to our artists who are trying to work. I'm not saying your particular child was being disruptive but our shop is an adult environment we play music that isn't appropriate for children we have clients using language that may not be appropriate for children. I needed a new pair of rings for my ears. So I call up talk to the piercing guy and ask him if he has what I need. He sure does, and lets me know his hours and that I can just pop on by. Awesome. So I do. Shop looks clean. Great. Displays are neat, and I can see just what I am looking for. I wait for about two minutes in the lobby for someone to pop out from the back. As soon as he sees me ( and my son on my hip) he immediately informs me that this shop does not allow children. I hesitantly ask, "Not even to purchase something from the display?" He interrupts me with a solid 'No.' And starts to explain because of the cleaning agents they use, children are not allowed in. I say "thank you" and high tailed it out of there. Now, I have multiple tattoos and piercings. And have been getting these body modifications done for 15 plus years. And in the 10 years I have been a parent, I have never, not once been turned away in the lobby of anywhere for having my child with me. I have had my kids with me during consults and once even gotten my ears pierced with my child in my lap. This may be up to the shop, and the piercer, but shop owners you should have this posted. I even went back and looked at your site, and no where does is ask for your clients to not bring children in with them. But I guess it's cool because I will never be a client of yours. The only warning I saw posted was a request not to leave the door propped open. And if you are indeed using chemicals harsh enough to harm my child in the lobby, and in my arms, I don't think I want to go anywhere near your establishment. Not cool. Read Less

Have never felt so comfortable and welcome. My Dad recently passed and I wanted a beautiful memorial tat for my hero. I had some lettering done to start it, at a shop in Lincoln City. It turned out ok, but the artist who did the work was the most unsociable person I've ever had work done by. After an hour of silence I decided that I wouldn't be finishing the most important tattoo I will ever get. I had heard about Nik the owner of Destination ink for about a yr .... after ...a lot of research and talking to as many ppl as I could who has work done by the shop I walked in and made an appt. Mike has done all my piercings since I was 15 and I'm 18 now, 8 or so piercing have been done. The shop has the best costumer service I've seen anywhere including stores. If you told me I could never come here again then I suppose I'd never get another piercing again. These guys are the only guys I trust which is why I will be getting my first tattoo here! Nik is also one of the only tattoo artists I genuinely trust.I have had some piercings done here with a semi high rejection rate and have never had an issue with any of them. They were pierced right and have never had a slight issue. On top of this they never make you feel judged or stupid for asking questions to anyone working here. I planned a trip to go out to Oregon to visit friends and family. I was looking for an artist who could do some amazing nature work for a sleeve I was planning. A few one my friends recommended Destination Ink for their customer service and quality. I was not let down. I contacted Christina, an artist there, about the piece I wanted. She was fairly prompt to respond and accommodate my schedule into her calendar for the work. She had sketches and drawings done up for me a few days before my plane landed and I was very pleased to see that she and j had a like mind about my ideas. She was ready to go when I arrived and we got right to work. During the process she was very soft-handed and her line work was stellar! After a little over 4 hours I had to stop and she was even nice enough to fit me in during another day of my trip out to Portland so I could finish the piece in the same weekend. I am in love with the workmanship and her style/input on my piece. I could not honestly say I would've gotten any better work with anyone else for the price I paid. I can't say enough great things about Destination Ink. A few days before my trip to visit my friend who lives in Forest Grove I decided that I wanted to finally get my nose pierced. She checked out yelp and saw that they had great reviews so we decided to go. I was super impressed with how professional looking the shop was. It was clean and bright with nice comfy chairs in the lobby. Mike is amazing. I was super nervous and he was so friendly and explained the whole process and answered any questions I had. He was very calm & patient. He really made me feel safe. It hurt a tiny bit, but every step of the way he told me exactly what was going on and it was over before I knew it!My friend came in with some ideas from Pinterest of a feather that she wanted to get behind her ear. Christina (tattoo artist) came back a little bit later with 3 drawings. Super impressive! A few days after I got my piercing it seemed like the jewel was sinking into my nose and it freaked me out and was worried because I live 2 1/2 hours away and it wasn't very easy to just drove back down there. I messaged Destination Ink through Facebook and got a response right away from Mike. He told me it was probably just swelling and to keep up the cleaning routine and keep in contact with him. I got my first tattoo today and woah is this place awesome.  Christina did a phenomenal job and was super sweet and professional. I sent her the picture beforehand of what I wanted  and she did some sprucing up and made it just how I imagined it and more. The entire staff is super professional, easy going and friendly. While i was there, I also needed to get my hoop and ball out of my nose to replace it with a stud. Mike was fast, efficient and didn't even charge me for it. He's pretty awesome. He hung out with Christine and I and kept me busy chatting while I had my tattoo done. When I am ready for another tattoo and piercing, I'm definitely coming back here. I have had many enjoyable experiences in this tattoo shop! Nik has done two of my tattoos and we already have plans for the next two. he isn't only like an amazing amazing artist his work you can look at it.. it speaks for itself. but the actual sitting in the chair experience is wonderful! he talks and laughs with me and makes getting a tattoo actually near painless because he really makes me comfortable and takes my mind off the edge, they also let me choose music to listen to (: but probably because I have amazing taste in music!  I actually live on the same street as a tattoo shop but I take an hour on the bus to their shop because they just rock at like "customer service" I can ask them questions and sound like an idiot and they don't even judge! woah!! Then there is Mike the body piercer there and he is really amazing he has done three of my piercings. my nipple, my vch and my tregus and nik even held my hand for my ear (: Mike is a really awesome guy he made me feel completely comfortable for having my legs spread wide open! so if you are really worried about awkwardness.. go to mike because you wont get that at all. also he did my second nipple piercings my first one was done at a different shop and just comparing the experience I wish I had gone to mike for both nipples because he had a different technique that seemed like the "right technique" haha! he even switched out my other jewelry so itd match my new one! that is just really fucking awfully sweet! my first time ever in the shop I was driving by and seen their sign and I made my boyfriend stop and take me in because I needed a new back to my Monroe stud and I didn't know what size it was or anything to I handed the gem over to mike and he clean the gem and found the right size for me! and I just thought it was really really nice :) I am a really really shy person so for me to be able to go into somewhere and not feel weird in a situation or shy about voicing my opinion (especially for a tattoo or piercing) means a great deal to me.
