Worst tattoo I've ever gotten. When I was there the police arrived to investigate a rape. The owner (Josh?) was furious that the victim would dare to call the police to his shop. (Both victim and perpetrator were employees) He didn't seem to care that a woman was raped. He cared only about his image. He fired the employee who was raped via text while I was leaving the shop saying "she knew what she was getting into hanging out with him" Meaning she deserved to get raped I guess?!This shop is horrible. Upon finding out that one of his employees had called the police to his studio to file a police report after being assaulted and raped, the owner, Josh Wiley, sent her the following text:"Yes. I heard that the police were at my shop. So I came there and asked what happened. I honestly am absolutely at a loss that you would EVER think its okay to bring the POLICE to my studio..... WHILE THERE ARE CLIENTS  IN THE LOBBY. I honestly can't believe that you'd do something that ridiculous."There are screen-caps of this exchange online. The employee was subsequently fired. He has done primarily ultra-realism on me (microphone, headphones, turn tables). That shop is unlike any other shop I've been in. There is NO drugs or alcohol or shady people in the shop. First tattoo, great experience. I surprised birh of my grown sons with this tattoo idea, and they collaborated on a design. I was visiting in Dayton for a few days, but I wanted Matt Clemmer, who had done great tattoos for my son, to do this one. Matt made time for me and did a great job on the tattoo. I didn't quite know what to expect, and I was nervous, but everyone--even the other customers--were friendly and helpful. Coming from a place like Richmond, Virginia to Dayton, Ohio is like trading gold for a small lump of charcoal when it comes to options for reputable tattoo shops and talented artists. Luckily, Modified Skin reminded me of home in the best way possible. I walked in on a whim to ask them questions about the area and other shops, and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. They answered all of my questions and gave me business cards, inviting me to come back. I was even lucky enough to catch them at a time where I could get a tattoo without an appointment, and they were super sweet about me being a walk-in. My artist, Justin Barbarino, was super kind and fun to work with, and even gave me some pointers on where to go in the area and where to find things to do. He did a great job on my tattoo, and I can't wait to work on some more projects with him in the future. The shop is neat and tidy, in a teeny little strip mall, and has a lot of character. I have been searching for the perfect artist to do a meaningful tattoo for me for at least the last 5 years. I looked in Savannah, GA, Charlotte, NC, Cincinnati and finally Dayton. I was searching for someone to do a realistic face and many artists came close, but none were just, the right fit. I was doing a yelp search recently and I came across Modified Skin. The pictures that have been posted were perfect for what I had been looking for. I contacted the owner Josh Wiley, and we a set up an appointment. I told him what I was envisioning, and he came up with some amazing ideas for the final result. The shop itself is very laid back, and all the artists are incredibly friendly and creative. It was a full house the night I was in, and the place was a buzz with happy customers, myself included. I feel like this shop has more personal touches than many I have gone to in the past. Josh had a large selection of movies and before we got started he asked if I'd like to watch a movie or listen to music. I knew I was in for a long session and I'm a wuss, so I decided to pick out a couple of funny movies to keep my mind busy. After a couple of hours, my energy was running low, so he ran to Wendy's to grab some food. I have to say, this tattoo has turned out much different than my first ideas in the beginning of my thoughts, but it turned out much better too. I have only had the tattoo for a couple of weeks, and it's not even complete but it has gotten more attention and more compliments than I ever expected.
